Why I believe Wynne to be the Best Companion Ever

Except for Wynne.
Wynne became my go to person for comfort and support. She asks you how you are feeling, gives you advice and comfort. And just smiles and laughs when you disagree with her because "she was young once too". She asks your PC about your background and gives you sympathy for what you have been through....Grey Warden aside.
When I got her personal quest, I dropped everything to find that elf for her. When she told me she was sick...I cried, and she was the first person I wanted to talk to after fighting the archdemon.
Wynne made the whole game feel just that much more real to me....because she was the one that I could count on to give advice and support when it was no where else to be found. Just like in real life you have that one friend that you can always go to.

I always felt a bit like Frodo since my journey began:
"We went out to safe middle-earth. And we saved it. But not for me"
I always knew that there would never be a ride-into-the-sunset-happy-end for me on this adventure. Talking to Whynne did really help me at times i was struggling with my characters inevitable faith. She is an upliftung person I easily can care for.
Only downside is her beeing overly protective on behalf of your possible romance.

However, after finishing the Magi Tower and actually speaking to her my opinion changed completely. She was the first person who actually seemed to care about the Warden, and was willing to put aside her own problems just to talk. After what my Human Noble had been through with his family, I'm sure he appreciated the Grandmother figure.

Like you Op, I too was upset to hear she was sick and made sure to do her personal quest as soon as I could do so. Sure I enjoyed Morrigan's snarkyness, Oghren's drunken lewdness and all the other character's little quirks but Wynne is just charming in her kind and warm ways. I think she was a well thought out character and Bioware did a great job with her!

Actually, if it hadn't been for Wynne saying that...I probably would not have taken Morrigan's offer. But after Wynne said that I was like "You are right! We are happy! Damn if I will let some Archdemon ruin all that" lol

because Wynne sounds so much like win, and having her along in combat = win
For sure! I loved having her around in combat too, for her talks with the other characters and for her guidance when making choices...although, after I found out about her prediciment...I wasn't sure if she was going to make it to the end..and I was afraid that if I took her with me I could get stopped on the map for a cut scene where she would die. It absolutely terrified me, but I took her anyway knowing that she wouldn't want me to make her just sit around and wait for the end...when she could be alot of help to me.
Was quite relieved that she made it to the end.
Also with her healing powers, she was able to fix my mistakes when I did something stupid lol.

Heh, now I feel like a complete ****. I hardly bothered speaking with Wynne much, and actually resented her a bit when she first spoke of my romance with Leliana. She is motherly, true, but I guess I'm more of a "leave me alone, mom!" kinda guy. Maybe it's time I got to know her character a bit better.
Yeah, I didn't speak to her much in my first playthrough...which was of a mage....but my second time...I clicked on her accidently in the werewolf lair, and she said "How did you come to be a grey warden?"
I replied "Arl Howe murdered my family, and Duncan helped me escape." I thought it would end right there...because even with my romance with Alistair, the only time he asked me ANYTHING about my background was when he asked "Have you ever lost someone close to you?" to which I replied "Yeah, my whole family was murdered recently" Then he just goes "Ohhhh...right...sorry, I forgot." And that was it. Wow, we are in a relationship and thats all I got?
But Wynne continued...asked me why Arl Howe would do that, asked who I was infact...I actually had a WHOLE conversation with Wynne...not just a Q&A, and it was about ME!
Thats when she won me over.
Edit: Actually, after meeting and getting to know Wynne...was the first time I thought that jeeze, wouldn't a "hug" option be nice. You can kiss, and you can have sex...but wow, a hug from Wynne...or a hug from fergus at the end if you play as a noble, would just be the icing on the cake.

Beyond that her comments are mostly dull, even if you do something really sadistic she just scolds you like a loving grandmother except in some cases where she will actually attack you.
Morry is so much more fun to have around, between her comments (Oh! Are we going to go around saving kittens out of trees next?! ha ha ha "Morry disaproves -15") and interesting, though ultimately unresolved, plot.

Sereda thinks Wynne is a raving self-righteous lunatic who believes she has an angel friend (good spirit/angel, whatever, the opposite of "demon"). She's so obsessed by the little people's common problems that she forgets the big picture: it's up to us to save the world!
The people and their problems are what caused this big mess in the first place! If Wynne continues to be obsessed with these people and their so-called rules, it doesn't bode well for the world at large.
Luckily, she's not in charge! Raving lunatic or not, if she can heal a broken bone or two, she's of some use...

I also thought her side-quest was very moving - quite a burden of guilt to carry all those years, and it was nice how it resolved.

I vaguely recall the Biowarians promising, because the one-sidedness of PC-NPC interactions has long been a complaint, that things would be different in DA. Wynne is the only party member who lives up to that promise. (Obviously we can't really expect much from say, Sten or Morrigan. But I was hoping for a bit more care from my character's girlfriend or her buddy-in-arms and fellow Warden.)
