We all went through the Origins, and if it did its job properly, it certainly pulled at the heart strings a bit. Right from the beginning, you end up feeling for your PC and become angry for them for what they have gone through. Then you get thrown head first into this huge fight of your life...and everyone just wants wants wants. All your companions bring their problems to you, all these other people in the story want you to fix everything. But no one, cares to know anything about you, what your PC as gone through, or that maybe...you just need to talk.

Except for Wynne.

Wynne became my go to person for comfort and support. She asks you how you are feeling, gives you advice and comfort. And just smiles and laughs when you disagree with her because "she was young once too". She asks your PC about your background and gives you sympathy for what you have been through....Grey Warden aside.

When I got her personal quest, I dropped everything to find that elf for her. When she told me she was sick...I cried, and she was the first person I wanted to talk to after fighting the archdemon.

Wynne made the whole game feel just that much more real to me....because she was the one that I could count on to give advice and support when it was no where else to be found. Just like in real life you have that one friend that you can always go to.

I feel the same about Whynne. Really all people are bothering you with their needs. But she ist caring and warm the one that wants to know, how you are.

I always felt a bit like Frodo since my journey began:

"We went out to safe middle-earth. And we saved it. But not for me"

I always knew that there would never be a ride-into-the-sunset-happy-end for me on this adventure. Talking to Whynne did really help me at times i was struggling with my characters inevitable faith. She is an upliftung person I easily can care for.

Only downside is her beeing overly protective on behalf of your possible romance.

Everyone is drawn to a different personality type, that's why they made 9 or 10 characters. Wynne doesn't do much for me, Shale however is literally and figuratively a rock in turbulent events for me. Not to mention, holder of some of the funniest lines in-game.

I actually agree. When I first encountered Wynne I thought she looked like a dull companion, and Morrigan already had a couple of healing spells by that point. So I thought she would be relegated to the Camp at the first opportunity.

However, after finishing the Magi Tower and actually speaking to her my opinion changed completely. She was the first person who actually seemed to care about the Warden, and was willing to put aside her own problems just to talk. After what my Human Noble had been through with his family, I'm sure he appreciated the Grandmother figure.

I really enjoyed Wynne's character also and found it a joy to speak with her when in camp etc. I admit to begin with I was a little hesitant about recruiting her but I'm glad I did. To me she was like somewhat of a motherly figure to my PC, someone who was acually concerned and willing to listen what was going on in her life; even to go as far as show protectiveness to a degree when she noticed the blossoming romance with Leliana. To have a character like that in a party of so many different personalities is a lovely breath of fresh air.

Like you Op, I too was upset to hear she was sick and made sure to do her personal quest as soon as I could do so. Sure I enjoyed Morrigan's snarkyness, Oghren's drunken lewdness and all the other character's little quirks but Wynne is just charming in her kind and warm ways. I think she was a well thought out character and Bioware did a great job with her!

because Wynne sounds so much like win, and having her along in combat = win

It is true that she thinks that your relationship may do better harm then good, but when you go back to talk to her, she apologizes and tells you maybe she spoke to rashly, and that she can see that the person you are romancing is genuwinely happy and that you seem to really care about each other.

Actually, if it hadn't been for Wynne saying that...I probably would not have taken Morrigan's offer. But after Wynne said that I was like "You are right! We are happy! Damn if I will let some Archdemon ruin all that" lol

For sure! I loved having her around in combat too, for her talks with the other characters and for her guidance when making choices...although, after I found out about her prediciment...I wasn't sure if she was going to make it to the end..and I was afraid that if I took her with me I could get stopped on the map for a cut scene where she would die. It absolutely terrified me, but I took her anyway knowing that she wouldn't want me to make her just sit around and wait for the end...when she could be alot of help to me.

Was quite relieved that she made it to the end.

Also with her healing powers, she was able to fix my mistakes when I did something stupid lol.

Heh, now I feel like a complete ****. I hardly bothered speaking with Wynne much, and actually resented her a bit when she first spoke of my romance with Leliana. She is motherly, true, but I guess I'm more of a "leave me alone, mom!" kinda guy. Maybe it's time I got to know her character a bit better.

Yeah, I didn't speak to her much in my first playthrough...which was of a mage....but my second time...I clicked on her accidently in the werewolf lair, and she said "How did you come to be a grey warden?"
I replied "Arl Howe murdered my family, and Duncan helped me escape." I thought it would end right there...because even with my romance with Alistair, the only time he asked me ANYTHING about my background was when he asked "Have you ever lost someone close to you?" to which I replied "Yeah, my whole family was murdered recently" Then he just goes "Ohhhh...right...sorry, I forgot." And that was it. Wow, we are in a relationship and thats all I got?
But Wynne continued...asked me why Arl Howe would do that, asked who I was infact...I actually had a WHOLE conversation with Wynne...not just a Q&A, and it was about ME!

Thats when she won me over.

Edit: Actually, after meeting and getting to know Wynne...was the first time I thought that jeeze, wouldn't a "hug" option be nice. You can kiss, and you can have sex...but wow, a hug from Wynne...or a hug from fergus at the end if you play as a noble, would just be the icing on the cake.

I killed Wynne on my first play through without even knowing who she was, because I  was trying to score points with Morrigan and she wanted me to kill this random old lady mage trying to get in my road of wiping out the mage tower for the templars.

Shale and dog had no problems with it, so nor did I. :innocent:

I never used Vessel of the Spirit, because she said it weakened the spirit. I am a little disappointed that this results in no story difference at all, but it was nice from a roleplaying point of view.

Wynne annoys me. I already know about myself, I don't need to have her repeat it all back to me as if I did not understand even the most basic aspects of my character's existence. When I talk to Wynne I want to know about her spirit problem because it's a very unique situation that is pretty interesting but which never sees any resolution beyond the plot ability she gains and the certainty that it will kill her some day.

Beyond that her comments are mostly dull, even if you do something really sadistic she just scolds you like a loving grandmother except in some cases where she will actually attack you.

Morry is so much more fun to have around, between her comments (Oh! Are we going to go around saving kittens out of trees next?! ha ha ha "Morry disaproves -15") and interesting, though ultimately unresolved, plot.

Sereda (my current rogue) is extremely pragmatic and logical. She gets along very well with Morrigan, newly promoted best-friend since this whole ordeal started.

Sereda thinks Wynne is a raving self-righteous lunatic who believes she has an angel friend (good spirit/angel, whatever, the opposite of "demon"). She's so obsessed by the little people's common problems that she forgets the big picture: it's up to us to save the world!

The people and their problems are what caused this big mess in the first place! If Wynne continues to be obsessed with these people and their so-called rules, it doesn't bode well for the world at large.

Luckily, she's not in charge! Raving lunatic or not, if she can heal a broken bone or two, she's of some use... ;)

I liked Wynne a lot (would have liked a romance option for her), but she's a stereotypical old(er) person.

I agree. I feel she and Zevran (once you get him to love you) are the best companions ever for emotional support. Wynne, Zev and Dog... no beating that party. :D

Ogren said he would take Wynne for a roll once and her reply was something like, "Well I suppose I should be flattered"

I was tickled by both unexpected remarks.

Wynne is cool, she's a bit of a schoolmarm, but she's handy in a fight, her advice is heartwarming in difficult times, and her dialogues with Oghren are very funny (e.g., from memory: Wynne: "oh now you're just trying to flatter me", Oghren "meh, I don't have the equipment for that". There's also a hilarious double-entendre-filled convo about Alistair's pike-twirling :) )

I also thought her side-quest was very moving - quite a burden of guilt to carry all those years, and it was nice how it resolved.

Another question: Does Wynne have the largest breasts of all your female companions? Just seemed like hers were much larger than Morrigan's and Leliana's.

Wynne is easily one of my favourite companions ever. And yes, that is in no small part because she cares -- which is, sadly, more than can be said for just about everyone else. Others may ask a question or two about the PC in the whole game, if that. Even Leliana whom my character is involved with never returned a fraction of the interest my character showed for her and her well-being. Wynne? She's there for you. She's very grounded, not some needy fix-me-up or annoying braggart. She has nothing to prove, she knows where she stands, and despite everything she has retained her sense of humor. I really adore that old lady. <3

I vaguely recall the Biowarians promising, because the one-sidedness of PC-NPC interactions has long been a complaint, that things would be different in DA. Wynne is the only party member who lives up to that promise. (Obviously we can't really expect much from say, Sten or Morrigan. But I was hoping for a bit more care from my character's girlfriend or her buddy-in-arms and fellow Warden.)

Wynne was probably one of the most kind hearth companions in the DAO but I did not like her attitude of trying to heal everybody but I agree that Wynne was more interesting character than I first assumed. After she told me that she was kind of dead already after she fought with powerful demon and only bring back by some kind spirit of Veil that keep her alive that made her more interesting. She was actually kind of my personal guardian angel but I did not like her attitude of fixing me as I did not feel that I was broken.
