Totaly happy with Bioware decision. They showed that not all stories can end like with happily ever after fairy tale ending. And I understood the reason behind it as well as the affect ME 1-2 had on ME3
Uh, no.. we're not unsatisfied because how bad the ending is; It is one of the ending, but the point is the lack of explaination about other stuffs that left unexplained.
Honestly I was expecting some kind of epilogue to wrap up the events of the ending and describe what happened to all the crew members. Honestly, with countless hours over several years invested in this series I expected more closure.
Disappointed, not because the endings were bleak, but because the endings gave no resolution at all.
<- This would have been better. Spend the last moments of the game with one of the best characters from the game.
Now, don't get me wrong, I don't think we're entitled to some end changing DLC. I'd sure as hell /like/ one, but it's Bioware's choice. They made an artistic statement with ME3. It's not ours to change. If they think these endings are the best, alright...it's there right to keep them, just like it's our right to be disappointed.
So, in closing, not a good ending, in my opinion. Not to fans that are very emotionally invested in these games. Mass Effect changed the way I looked at video games. But, hey, if you guys are satisfied with it, and feel it was the best way to end the series, fine by me. But I'll always have a different end for Mass Effect in my head. One that allows for the beautiful canon you have created to live on, for Shepard to have a few more adventures, save a few other planets, before he settles down on Rannoch with Tali. Minus wrecking **** on the Citadel with Garrus on boy's night out. Gotta give the man who saved the galaxy a little slack, don't you?
Does every story your moms tell you explains what happened to the characters of that story after the end? Remember the after credits and think about it.
I was happy with the ending. These three games were Shepard's story culminating in her decision at the end of Mass Effect 3. What happens afterwards is up to the races of the galaxy to decide. Shepard's role is done, there is no need to show what happens after.
The knowledge that my Shepard's journey was over hit me very hard. I'm still reeling from it. I had put so much time and thought into her, what she would do in certain situations, how she viewed the Galaxy and its inhabitants. To have that end, no matter how, would always be a big blow. The final romance conversation with Garrus in London made that even more powerful, Jennifer Hale's acting was superb. All I know is that as long as there is breath in my Shepards body she will not rest until she has found her crew. She has a promise to a Turian that she has to keep.
I don't see how anyone can say that the things you did in the previous games seem pointless. Did you or did you not save all organic life from being harvested by the Reapers? Your entire struggle was steps to achieve that end. It may not have turned out how you thought it would but life has a habit of doing that. The mission got done, giving life the chance to carry on.
There is NOTHING for the races of the galaxy to decide after me3
Me3 Galaxy is finished no matter your choice.
No more games can be made in the franchise.
At least after me3 ending.
What gets me the most is the epic logic fails.
Repeatedly in the ending.
Relieved that my Shepard was finally put to rest after what'd he'd been through. It was sad, but I knew there were more endings to be enjoyed, so I replayed it again--going for full-on 100% game completion (5000 in war assets), and the different ending left me pleasantly surprised to say the least, almost like Casey Hudson was *wink winking* me.
Doubt it's the end END of Mass Effect, wouldn't even be shocked if Shepard is the main char in a new game following ME3. I'm definitely satisfied, and yeah, even a bit emotional after having built my Shepheard from the Normandy-S1's XO to savior of the frickin' galaxy!
I had no problem with the ending being "unhappy", the sacrifices made at the end were perfectly reasonable and fit with an arc and theme that started with ME2's introduction. What I have a problem with is the numerous plot holes, and the Catalyst's assumptions on synthetic/organic relations that have already been disproved by the Geth.
The ending was not objectively BAD, per se, but it introduced several plot holes and basically erased the choices made throughout the game. Players wanted to see the results of their decisions, how lasting the peace they forged was and how the galaxy changed as a result of the sacrifices they made. Instead, the ending is effectively the same regardless of what you did throughout your campaign.
I feel crushed. Like, I knew my three choices and I choose which one was best for humanity, not what was best for Shepard. Well...it wouldn't have mattered because I saved the Collector base in ME2, which, by the way, WTF does the collector base's destruction/survival have to do with the ending of ME3 and so little impact on the story???
Anyways, I beat it yesterday (no multiplayer because I'm too poor to afford xbox gold) but with 6000+ Readiness Rating. I understand why I chose the Systhesis option, but I actually am saddened MORE by the Mass Relay thing. What about all the races trapped on Earth??? I think that races would eventually create them on their own, but still super sad. What planet is the Normandy on??
Also... Did humans exist 50,000 years ago when the Protheans existed? Some of Javik's dialogue regarding humans confuses me.
Did anyone else have major glitches in their game play on some of the side missions, especially the Volus Ambassador one and Dekumma: Evacuation (or whatever it was called)? I hope Bioware releases a patch for them.
I also feel like the money spent on the collectors edition wasn't worth it; the soundtrack would have been more worthwhile had it been a hard copy. And the "artbook" is so cheap =T "Hey guys! Look at this artbook you get for your game! Now don't you want this even bigger, shinier, artbook for $XX.00??? =D --Love, Bioware".
..Aw dang this comment got long. I guess I feel like I have to grieve somewhere. ._.;
I don't ever really post, or log in. But for once it feels warranted.
I'll start by saying I've been writing since I was child and love video games and it's video game writing that has inspired me and turned me into a really good writer because I know how to capture the intensity and emotional elements.
I also want to say, I love Mass Effect from the very first one and in my opinion I wish Drew Karpyshyn was still on the writing team because I don't think we would've gotten the ending we got. This game belongs to the developers BioWare and it is there decision to do with it as they please no matter how much people complain. So I also want to say thank you BioWare for releasing a statement today saying you will take Customer's concerns and feedback into consideration.
Now onto the emotional response... Indifference, did I expect a happy ending no. But the ending of Mass Effect 3 left me baffled and confused you "have" a great Story and ended in such a open ended kinda way. I personally would've like the opportunity for my Shepard to make his own future and it felt kinda forced.
When I played Mass Effect 1 and beat it, I cried at the end for about the first few seconds before you realized Shepard is alive and than it was more of tears of happiness. Mass Effect 2 came along and I was hoping to have some kinda tearful moment and it came and left me without one (However the collector pods scene when you realize what happens was the most blood curdling thing I've seen and made me feel not good).
Mass Effect 3 was much better throughout the entire game and it's everything that was missing from 2 in terms of depth and a more emotional story, but it didn't phase me much I felt sad about the sacrifices. But I realized it was necessary and it was there choice and I had to do right by them and win no matter the cost.
Now the ending ruined it felt more like everyone died in vein and left me thinking about other peoples theories and such. All I will say is I didn't have tears at the end of Mass Effect 3 in fact my emotional connection with the game was over and I think that people didn't want that. They wanted to remember Mass Effect 3 to be able to say that was the best way for it to end and I don't think it was there...
Unless you have trick up your sleeve in which case bravo and it is much appreciated because you scared all of us BioWare.
We all know it's your game and your the creators and this is what you chose, but your fans are pleading with you and we all had faith in this. We just want to finish "Shepard's Hero's Journey"
The first run through left me feeling cold and underwhelmed. I played it with a default Shepard because I felt it would be the best way to really gain an understanding of what impact my playthroughs were having on the game universe.
The second run through hit me a lot harder. Even on the default setting ME3 is an incredible game right up to the end, but playing through the first two games and meeting all the characters again, and having them change the outcome of missions just by virtue of them being around when I needed them. It was amazing. The second time hit me a lot harder, and the emotional response it provoked this time was a more nihilistic "why bother?"
I'm not going to take part in the ranting and raving. Not going to boycott Bioware, if I see other games they make that look good I'll buy them because I've never purchased games based on who the developers were. But the sense of connection I had with the game has been severed, the way it played out made me feel like all of the choices I made were pointless.
I'm expected to use my imagination about what happens afterwards? About Shepard's impact on his universe? I just can't be bothered.
Complete and utter disapointment. How can a series that is SO good have such an awful ending? I struggle to think of a way to make that worse. I would take almost ANYTHING over what they gave me. And after how many years and how many dollars this is how they repay the fans? Awesome bioware....
I felt pretty much as you did, Zeeque. By the end I totally felt that was going to happen. And I wanted to reverse the plot of the game and escape from the galaxy :-) Unfortunately the story didn't have that option.
I really got used to my fem Shep and to all the friends on the Normandy. The ending was amazing and inevitable :-)
First was confusion, quickly followed by anger and depression. I felt like I've been raped.
Agree.
That ending(the 3 are the same) was bull****.
How can you end the most epic game I have ever played like that?
Seriusly, BULL****.
All 3 are different. The only thing that conects them is that they are tregic.
How can you not? You've entered the war that could destroy the antire galaxy. Make hard choices where you may have to betray your allies or destroy another race to same the other. Shepard blew up the entire solar system just to stall reapers. The best possible ending here would be only that Reapers are dead, shepard and co are dead with a handfull of some races still alive. Anything else and the game would feel like a fairy tale with adult story in it.
Like most people here...I really thought the ending was rather disappointing. I wished it was more integrated with the other characters, more epic, and a conclusion where decisions in the game actually mattered.
If you think back at ME2, ME2 had a terrific ending. Even though it left you wondering what was next, it's ending incorporated more in-game decisions for a final outcome, it incorporated character skills and even luck. ME3...was just plain choppy. It seemed rushed. I didnt even think I was at the end of the game yet (till the final cutscene appeared) because I didnt think it would end there. There was really nothing climatic. I just felt as if I was starting the action of the game.My first reactions were like...wtf? the games ending?
Also, I wished the major decisions you made in the past ME's where more significant. Cause they really were not.
Overall, idk how the game got such high ratings now. Cause if any critic played ME2, they would have rated this game worst than ME2.
Besides the storyline. I'm quite disappointed at the quality of the game. At times, character models disappeared during cut scenes, game glitches when trying to load. Like did they not go through a QA process when testing the game?
I HATE the ending... I spend years of playing, attaching myself to my Sheppard through all the games, read all the books and the comics for WHAT???
After i played it through all three endings i was desolated.
Well thats my opinion for what it's worth.
