Bioware really screwed up when they passed this up.

Totally a cool option, more variety for the ending, that's we want, that's what they promised right?

Mmm... good idea OP. Adding a new "branch" of endings like this in a DLC would be a way to keep everyone satisfied. This deserved a friendly bump.

Hold the line!

This is actually pretty good. They can keep the old endings but add something else on the side for other players.

So right after the assault on the Cerberus base we learn that the Citadel has been retaken and is now closed up in orbit around Earth. The only way in is a beam of light somewhere in London. But wait! That simply isn't true, is it? There is a back door onto the station, and we've known about it since ME1: The Conduit at Ilos.

So here is my proposal. After destroying Cronos base you have an option. You could travel to the Sol system on the galaxy map and launch the final mission just like we have now. The mission, the ending, and the consequences will remain unchanged. Or we could download a new Ilos DLC that will enable us to travel to Ilos on the galaxy map and if we choose this branch, will launch a completely different ending sequence.

This ending will mirror the the end of the first game, providing a good bookend to the series. You have to fight your way to the conduit on Ilos just as you did Saren's geth at the end of ME1, except you are now fighting Reaper troops that are trying to stop you. Harbinger shows up and tries to stop you from reaching the conduit but the Normandy and some allied ships come in the nick of time and blow it away with their Thanix cannons, like what we see in this trailer: http://youtu.be/eBktyyaV9LY?t=2m35s

Now here is where things get interesting. As you are getting to the conduit, and even after, the perspective changes from Shepard's squad to that of Admiral Hackett commanding the fleets trying to retake Earth, just like how the end of ME1 had the perspective change from the boots on the ground team to the space battle for the Citadel going on outside. Only one major difference here: you get to play as Admiral Hackett as he guides the allied forces of the galaxy against the Reapers and can even give a rousing speech. This is done so you won't lose sight of the battle that is going on at Earth.

When you reach the presidium from the conduit, some cool stuff happens, and you have to fight your way up to the council chambers and open up the citadel arms. You could meet the Illusive Man over there just like in the ending we already have. Shepard opens up the arms, the Crucible docks and activates, the Reapers die, and we get the happy ending (or sad, depending on your readiness) we want that hopefully involves injesting alcoholic beverages via emergency induction ports and Garrus. The end.

The best thing about this is if you like the original ending, that is totally your option. Just choose to launch the end game from Earth instead of Ilos. For the rest of us, we get the ending we want in a totally optional way that doesn't detract from Bioware's original ending.

Thoughts?

Pretty cool idea.

Sounds good to me. I'd buy it, but only after reading reviews from actual fans guaranteeing my happy ending.

I support this, too! And Hackett playable would also be a nice touch like Joker being briefly playable in ME2. Great idea! Only I guess you shouldn't be able to influence the speech Hackett gives, because he is a set character.
I hate Autodialogue like any true ME fan but in this case I think it would be appropriate.

This is a fascinating idea. I completely forgot there is a backdoor into the Citadel, and of course Shepard has to fight his way to... wherever. A lot of details need to be worked out, but a lot possibilities there. I won't trade it for the current ending but I will be willing to buy and experience it if it's well-made.

That is an interesting idea, but as some others suggested doing something like this after the Reapers failed to indoctrinate Shepard, would also be cool. This way, you do get all those farewell coversations and the battles on Earth. With the frontal assault a failure, Sheperd could be rescued by his team and realizes that the Crucible is a Reaper constructed trap. Then the journey to Ilos and the Citadel back door could be a way of somehow using the enemies trap against them,.

As valid of a strategy as the indoctrination theory. Nice one OP.

I'm not sure about ALL of it.. the Hackett part in particular - yes, we played Joker in ME2, but Hackett's in charge of the fleets... I'm not sure how the gameplay would work. Still, though. This would work. There's a ton of nods to ME1 and 2 throughout this game, and this would not only provide longtime fans with another callback to the original, it provides a reasonable way of -completely- replacing the existing endings for players dissatisfied with them, and yet allows them to remain for anyone who did somehow like them.

Although, quite frankly, I just want something that ends a bit, well, happier. ...well, that, and for it to actually make sense...

Well then this does make sense and is happier isn*t it? Shepard would arrive at the Ctalyst at full strength backed up by his best buddies and could find a fourth solution!

I really support this!

This is an awesome idea! Let's hope BioWare gets this creative. It pleases the people who like the ending the way it is, and also offers another option for those who don't. Everybody's happy this way. :)

The conduit was a prototype that was only useable once, right?I got the impression that Ilos became a dead end once Vigil went offline.

This rocks my socks, it's the perfect way to provide better endings without having to tread on the toes of their precious artistic vision. :D

Ilos Conduit was a prototype yes! But it had already been used once before Saren and Shepard went through. The Protheans went through after the Reapers completed their cycle and changed the Keepers. It's a one-Way though.

So it's not out of the question, that they could reactivate it and move through again!

Just a thought which might fit into the current ending that most of us agree about: Couldn't the planet that your crew get stranded on at the end be Ilos? Doesn't it look similar?

Don't know how that's going to save the ending, it was just an idea that popped into my head.

I thought we blew up the Conduit? I could be wrong, it's hard to remember.
