this did annoy me abit to be honest not particularly just for the day 1 DLC but for the future of the gaming industry.its pretty obvious every aspect of the game and its fan base has been looked at to see where it can be monetized, makes sense from a business stand point as ME3 was always going to be the most popular game in the series.i take offense to the methods used and total focus on profit over quality and itegrity.its pretty clear that javik isn't just a "DLC character" just play the game, why was zaeed FREE to anyone who bought the game new but amazingly a prothean isn't i wonder why that could be (sarcasm).seeing as javik appeared in very early leaked scripts im guessing that by that example then alot of the DLC was in there too?no? i wonder why only the javik "DLC" was in early leaked scripts and no other dlc was?puzzling isn't it (again sarcasm)

Everyone complains about the endings (an honest bad decision by Bioware), they want to pay for DLC to get it fixed instead of saving their ten bucks, accepting Bioware screwed up, and then move on...but they don't like DLC.

@ Michael Gamble and Chris Priestly,

I thank you for taking the time to make and respond to the thread providing information, but in the eyes of many consumers, you've dropped the ball and can't be trusted. I understand this thread is damage control, but this type of information should have been released before the game went gold.

You're a for profit company and know you answer to the publisher and want as many revenue streams as possible from your I.P., I get it. However, in the eyes of many of your customers, you haven't been forthcoming and have sold out for the almighty dollar. Again, I get it, you're a for profit company, you want to monetize everything associated with the product, you want to sell as many copies as possible, make money to send your kids to school, buy fast cars, good food, etc. I understand it and I see no harm in business. However, at what point do you, as a company, look at your company culture and say "You know what? Maybe we shouldn't do this?" At what point do you as a company consider the consumer and their wallets? At what point do you ponder how the little things have a much larger impact than you might be able to admit?

No matter how much people pay for your games, if they are paying for them they are saying “I think I need/want your product, so I’m going to support you.” They are attempting to build a relationship and establish a level of trust, but it seems to me, and many others, that developers no longer trust consumers, simply want the money, and couldn’t care less about the fact that we are paying for betas, broken games, broken promises and lackluster efforts.

In closing, do right by your customers. Talk to them, speak with them, reach out to them and do this before SHTF. If not, you’ll simply spend cycles performing damage control and guess what? If you aren’t careful, another company with a better business model will come in, work hand in hand with the consumer, involve them heavily in the project and make more money than you would expect (and they’ll probably do it with a smaller team and budget.)

Think about what you’re doing because you’re on a dangerous path here…

I for one fully support you buddy. things like this make people trust less on buying genuine games. i bought the game for the story, then why am i feeling that i am being cheated? bioware used released this dlc for free to mend their mistake(just a suggesstion:whistle:). though i have to buy this additional dlc now.

It all seems to be much to do about nothing to me. You dont need the DLC to enjoy the game.

After reading the Final Hours, I'm sad to say that Bioware's claim that From Ashes was done after the game's development is a little dubious. Why?

Keighley makes it clear that the Prothean, Javik, was initially an integral part of the main plot. In March 2011, when it was decided to delay the release of ME3, they had to cut some content to even meet the new deadline. This was the content that was cut. And of course, the plot was modified to make do without Javik, and was thus no longer integral. Hence, I find Bioware's to contain some half-truths.

It is sad that EA/Bioware decided to release said content as Day One DLC instead of bundling it free with new purchases if it was originally meant to be in the game.

The story doesn't explain how far along dev wise this plot section was.  My impression was that they had not gotten very far with it and so cutting it simply meant re-writes more so than code changes.  They had probably developed the character models and animations for him but maybe not much else.  Or maybe that is just my wish that BioWare isn't knowingly being evil for all the ME3 issues (lazy, contrived ending / mis-info about MP & readiness rating...etc)
