IMO even the portion game up to the battle of Tuchanka was well worth the $60 bucks, and is more than the COD franchise ever gave.

Real works of art are not made to order. Not for a million bucks and certainly not for 60. They are made by people who love what they're doing and do it their own way.

If we pay for something and have been loyal fans since the beginning then we have the right to complain when after a hundred hours of character investment and attachment, many important decisions, and a lore that we care about the ending to this story completely throws all that out of the window. Its a giant middle finger.

 For those of you who do not know, I was so upset at the ending to Mass Effect 3 that I decided to write my own with my character's love interest being Tali.  I later followed it up with another posting with Liara, and this time I just finished up Ashley's ending.  One of the Moderators suggested I should consolidate my postings into a mega thread, so being new to this site, I have combined all three into one.  


The first part listed below is the confrontation with the catalyst after Shepard is giving the option of control, synthesis, or destroying all synthetic life.  Below that are each of the endings with the character's specific Li.  


PLEASE NOTE:  This is long, so if you want to skip to the part with your specific Li, please scroll down until you see your Li's name followed by the word Paragon.  


Also, the poem in Ashley's ending is "O Captain! My Captain!" by Walt Whitman.

(Shepard stands at a crossroads with the visage of the catalyst before him.  He wavers between the three choices and casts a weary glance at the child's face.)


Shepard:  None of them.  I will not sacrifice one race for the benefit of another.  We've come too far and fought for too long to have it end like this.  


Catalyst:  The destruction is the chaos which organics have brought to these worlds.  For millennia, I have seen those who have proceeded you speak words of peace only to be followed by acts of war.  Your kind breeds only  the destruction of your children.  It is in the Reapers, that this chaos that you call life, may find order and in that order the promise for ascension.  


Shepard:  And at what cost?  The eradication of an entire species?  I refuse to believe life can be preserved under genocide.  


Catalyst:  It is something which is beyond your comprehension-


Shepard:  No, it is you who are out of touch with the world.  Look around you, (Camera pans around the battlefield to show Salarian and Krogans helping one other, Turians and Humans pulling each other out of the wreckage, and Quarians back to back with Geth star ships against Harbinger sized reapers) for the first time in the universe, we fight as one.  Organics and Synthetics have united together not only for this world, but for the lives of millions to come...to ensure a life without oppression or fear.  (Shepard smiles to himself) But you wouldn't understand that, it's nothing but chaos to you, isn't it? 


(The Catalyst looks around and for the first time understands Shepard's words.  It pauses as if in brief contemplation, before casting a threaten glance at Shepard)


Catalyst:  Perhaps you are right, human, but without such safeguards (The Reapers), would you risk the destruction of not only your species, but of all sentient life in the universe? Is this the risk you are willing to take?


Shepard:  (stares resolutely at the child)  Yes.  


Catalyst:  Very well, but consider yourself warned, for the peace that will come will only be fleeting.  


Shepard:  That is a risk we are willing to take.  


(The Catalyst's body becomes pure energy which merges itself with the citadel/crucible.  A small pylon-esc device rises from the ground and unfurls itself before Shepard.  A glowing orb appears before shepard, and he cautiously places his hands over it.  A sudden wave of light over comes him, and in a scene similar to when you chose to destroy the synthetics, a wave of red light engulfs the reapers and send them hurdling towards the world lifeless.  The humane/ alliance coalition raise their arms in triumph as a huge reaper collides into a nearby building in its death throes.)

TALI- PARAGON


(Tali doges a blast and returns fire near Garrus, a Cannibal falls down to the ground dead as others are immolated before their eyes.)


Garrus:  I don't believe it. 


Tali:  He did it!  Shepard did it!


(Suddenly the crucible explodes in a plume of smoke and flame.  Tali shakes her head as if in disbelief)


Tali:  SHEPARD!!!!


(She reaches towards the citadel which is hundreds of miles above her.  She collapses on the ground and Garrus holds her, while sad music begins to play.)


Shepard (narration):  Hope...


(The next scene shows the wreckage of the citadel with the N7 chest plate with dog tags sticking out of the rubble.)


Shepard (narration continued):  That was one thing they never understood. Regardless of how dark things got...there was always hope. 


(Suddenly there is a gasp for air, and the chest starts rising in sudden spasms for air)


Shepard:  And as long as we had that, we knew we could endure. 


(A normandy rescue team surveys the wreckage of the citadel, all is silent except for the music playing in the background.  Jack and Liara use their powers to move wreckage, Garrus digs through rubble, and Tali uses her omni tool to look for life signs.  As the screen zooms in on her omni tool, there are the faint, rhythmic movements of a heart beating.)


Shepard:  And endure we did...but that is not to say that victory is without its price.  For where there is joy there is also sorrow... and with every life saved there are lives which are lost...


(There is a military funeral for Anderson and hundreds of others who fought and died in this war.  Miranda's sister is there with a bouquet of flowers as she places them beside the grave of her sister.)


Shepard:  But we find ways to rebuild, to regroup...


(Scene shows the different alien civilizations working together to rebuild their world.


Shepard:  And to work together...


(Scene shows Eve (the female Krogan) joining the council at the citadel.)


Shepard:  Because slowly...


(Scene shows Liara with her people in her homeworld)


Shepard:  We learn to live, 


(EDI is helping Joker walk out of the ship and onto the war torn earth)


Shepard:  laugh


(James is losing at a game of poker and he slams down the cards playfully and shakes his head)


Shepard: and love again.  


(Scene Shows Garrus embracing his family)


Shepard:  For in those moments...


(Scene shows a woman in a white albeit loose fitting dress standing before a canyon.  The viewer sees only the back of the woman and the screen slowly fades to black.)


Shepard:  We make life meaningful.  


(Credits roll)




(At the end of the credits, you seen the woman looking at the canyon before her.  As the camera pans around you see it is Tali, but without her faceplate or armor.  Her beautiful, black hair blows in the breeze as she closes her eyes and savors the feeling of it.  Across her neck are the neck bracelets of her suit, but her outfit is the one the player sees in her photograph given to Shepard.)


Shepard:  And here I thought you wanted beach front property?


(She turns around, and Shepard, walking with a slight limp moves up beside her.  He smiles and she holds his hand while resting her head on his shoulder.)


Tali:  (Laughs)  Why can't we have both (she makes her fingers into a rectangle)  I still want the window looking out over here. And the kitchen will be here, and our room can look out over... 


(Shepard kisses her forehead)


Shepard:  One thing at a time Tali'Zora Vas Normandy, fighting a Reaper invasion was one thing, but building a house...(Tilts his head from one side to another as if uncertain) that's something else entirely. 


Tali:  Well, at least you're used to working under pressure.  She places her hand over her stomach to reveal she is  pregnant. 


(Shepard places his hand over her own that is covering her stomach)


Shepard:  I love you


Tali:  I love you too


(They kiss)


(Shepard bends down and kisses her stomach, as he whispers the phrase is her own language that means "a want for all time.")


-END OF STORY-




LIARA-PARAGON


(Liara is crawling towards a heap of rubble for cover.  She was apart of the assault towards the transport relay before the Reaper destroyed nearly everyone in the squad.  She leans out of cover to fire a couple blasts at a Marauder.  She pulls the trigger a third time and the gun clicks.  Before the creature can strike, its body bursts into flame as it withers on the ground in pain.  


Liara:  By the Goddess!


(An explosion rings out around her, as the Giant reaper crashes into the ground.  Pieces of itself fly off into the distance, as cheers erupt from her fellow soldiers around her.)


Liara:  (She leans her head back and closes her eyes)  Shepard, you did it.  
 
(Suddenly the citadel/ crucible complex explodes above her.  She jumps to her feet and looks in disbelief at the sight.)


Liara: (tears running down her eyes)  No, no, no, no....


(There is a flashback of when Shepard died the first time.  Liara shakes her head and races towards the transport hub.  Garrus (or whoever you used during the final assault) grabs her)


Garrus:  What the hell are you doing?


Liara:  (Desperate) NO!  LET GO OF ME!!!!


Garrus:  It's suicide!


Liara:  (Sobbing in between breaths)  I WON'T LOSE HIM AGAIN!!!


(She generates a mass effect field, which helps her to break free of his grip.  She runs towards the light as Garrus screams for her to stop.  She leaps into the light and is teleported into the adjacent chamber.  Explosions ring out around her, as she darts from side to side, trying to stay on her feet.  Before her lies a pile of rubble, with two support columns collapsed over top of it.  Out of the pile lies Shepard's hand.)


Liara:  SHEPARD!!


(She digs into the rubble, while explosions deafen the background.  The screen flashes to scenes when she first met Shepard, when she last saw him before he died, and finally when he promised her, he would never leave her again.  Tears cloud her eyes, and finally the viewer sees Liara pull Shepard out of the debris.  She holds him closely, placing her hands to his face.)


Liara:  Don't you die on me again.  You promised.  YOU PROMISED!!


(An explosion occurs above her, which sends a portion of a column and more debris right on top of her.  Liara holds Shepard's body close to her and screams as the pillar falls onto the viewers perspective and everything goes black.)


(The next scene, shows the spot where both Liara and Shepard were buried in the rubble.  Shepard is heard speaking.)


Shepard (narration):  That was one thing they never understood.  Regardless of how dark things got...as long as we were together...


(Suddenly, there is an explosion of blue light that sends all of the debris flying at the screen.  There in the middle is Liara sitting over Shepard.  The blue light from the mass effect field Liara generated dissipates on her skin.  She looks towards Shepard's body, whose chest remains silent.)


Shepard (narration continued):  there was always hope. 


(Suddenly there is a gasp, and the chest starts rising in sudden spasms for air)

(James is losing at a game of poker and he slams down the cards playfully and shakes his head)


Shepard: and love again.  


(Scene Shows Garrus embracing his family)


Shepard:  For in those moments...


(Scene shows Liara talking with her asari advisers on her homeworld.  A man walks up to her, but the viewer can only see the back of him.  She looks toward the person and smiles.)


Shepard:  We make life meaningful again.  


(Credits roll)


(The viewer sees the person walking up to Liara was Shepard.  They share a tender embrace.)


Liara:  (excited)  Shepard!


Shepard:  I hope I wasn't interrupting anything, Ambassador T'soni.  


Liara:  (Smiles before turning to her PDA) Ambassador...hardly, but someone needs to regulate the reconstruction efforts of Thessia.  (She punches some information onto her pad) There.  (She puts the pad away)  I'm surprised your here.  I thought you were going to be busy today?


Shepard:  (Scatches his head) I was, but lets just say I had help from a couple friends.  Besides, I thought we might be able to have some alone time for once.  


Liara:  (She moves closer to him)  Well, in that case... (she smiles before leaning in for a kiss)


(Suddenly a child's voice is heard not so far away)


Asari child:  Mommy, Daddy!


(Shepard and Liara turn to see a little asari child running as fast as it can.  Joker haphazardly stumbles to catch up to the little kid with EDI walking calmly behind. )


(The child rushes up to Shepard and hugs his leg.  Shepard smiles to himself and picks the kid up in his arms.  He shakes his head playfully as Liara leans in and kisses the child on the forehead.  She looks at Shepard and smiles back.)


Liara:  So much for being alone.  


Joker:  I'm sorry, commander, but (continues to breathe heavy) she was too fast for me.  


(Joker is bent over trying to catch his breath.)


EDI:  (Looks at Joker)  You know Jeff, the statistical probability of being able to entertain the child would be greatly improved if you didn't insist on her watching the teleprompter while you fall asleep.  


Joker:  Hey, I was just resting my eyes.  Besides I would like to see you do better.  


EDI:  Maternal instincts are natural responses in my AI programming.  The ability to preserve life while fostering independence and autonomy was no different than what you and commander Shepard did for me aboard the Normandy. 


Shepard:  So you're saying, EDI, that you could be a good mother?


EDI:  Yes, but when I brooch the subject with Jeff, he pretends to have an auditory malfunction and falls asleep.  


Joker:  Yeah, well...(he begins to turn red). 


Shepard:  It's okay, Joker.  I appreciate the effort.  (He turns to Liara) Well, we can always get lunch...just the three of us?  


Liara:  (smiles) That sounds wonderful.  (She wraps her arm around Shepard's as she rests her head on his shoulder while the three of them walk off into the distance of Thessia.)


-End of Story- 


    
ASHLEY- PARAGON


(Ashley is running from cover to cover along the columns on a third story building.  She returns fire across the street and takes out a couple Cannibals who collapse on the ground.  Garrus covers her six and reloads, while she lets loose another burst of fire.  A Brute breaks through the wall and charges at them.  Garrus gets hit and flung into the nearby wall, while Ashley quickly dodges out of the way.  Garrus removes his pistol and fires a couple shots at the creature while struggling to get up.  Ashley activates her omnitool and a blade comes out of it.  She slashes at the creatures throat and it falls down dead.  She rushes to Garrus, who stumbles to his feet.  They are surrounded by Marauder and Cannibals, and just when it all looks bleak, they suddenly erupt in flames and fall over dead.)


(She looks in the distance and sees the Reapers caught up in explosions)


Ashley:  He did it (smiles).  


(Suddenly the citadel/ crucible complex explodes)


Ashley:  Shepard!  (She gets on the com)  Joker, I need an evac now.  We need to get Shepard!


(The com hisses back with static)


Ashley:  DAMMIT!  (she throws her helmet against the floor.  She looks around and sees a shuttle above her.  Garrus moves up besides her, and he notices it too.)


(Ashley sprints towards the shuttle)


Ashley:  Garrus!


Garrus:  I'm on it (as he races after her)


(Garrus  preps the shuttle while Ashley works the controls)


Garrus:  Let me just say that if this goes horribly wrong, I'll be the first to say '"I told you so."  


Ashely:  He'd never leave us behind, Garrus.


Garrus:  Which is exactly why I'm coming with you. 


(The shuttle lifts off and flies above a couple Reapers that are exploding around them.  They sail past the long, metallic tentacles which are splintering apart in small explosions of shrapnel and flame.  One of the explosions rocks the shuttle, and Ashley is seen steadying her balance, while trying to keep the craft on target to the citadel.)


(As they approach the docking area of the citadel, another Reaper is falling alongside of it.  It shatters apart, and one of its tentacles explodes and sends the Shuttle flying into the hanger bay.  It slams into the wall, and parts of its thruster gets ripped off as it tumbles on its side and screeches to a complete stop.)


Ashley:  Garrus, you okay?


Garrus:  (Stumbles while trying to get on his feet)  I'm fine, just go find him!


(Ashley runs through a collapsing corridor, and makes her way to a pile of rubble with Shepard's hand sticking out of it.)


Ashley:  Shepard!


(She digs into the rubble as scenes of the first time they met flash across the screen.  She lifts up another pile of debris as another shot shows the first time they kissed.  She pulls him out of the wreckage and cradles him close)


Ashley:  (Whispers)  Barely breathing...come one, Shepard, you're not going to leave me now...not like this.  


(She puts his arm across her neck and tries to carry him alongside her)


Ashley:  Comon, soldier....GET ON YOUR FEET!


(She hobbles forward with him as they catch up to Garrus, who is surveying the damage on the shuttle.  They stare at the exploding scenery around them.  Garrus casts a weary look at her.  Ashley falls to her knees, with Shepard's body leaning against her.)


Shepard (narration):  That was one thing they never understood.  Regardless of how dark things got...as long as we were together...


(Sudden there are the sounds of jet engines in the back ground.  Garrus looks to the distance and Ashley's face lights up at the sound of it.)


Shepard (narration continued):  there was always hope. 


(The Normandy flies up into view and pulls up alongside the docking station.)


Joker:  Heard you might need a hand, Lt. Commander?


(Ashley smiles as Garrus helps her load Shepard aboard the ship, and she quickly leaps aboard after him.)


Shepard:  And as long as we had that, we knew we could endure. 


(The Normandy flies off as the citadel docking bay explodes in the background.)

Shepard:  We make life meaningful again.  


(Credits roll)


(Shepard is unconscious on a hospital bed.  Ashley is there sitting besides him.  She holds his hand, while her eyes teared up.)


Ashley:  Shepard...(she pauses)...I...I don't know where to begin.  For the longest time, I thought you'd always be there for me, that things would never be like this.  


(She caresses the side of his face)


Ashley:  You told me how you never gave up on us, even after all my stubbornness, you never once let me go.  You gave me hope, Shepard, more than I had ever known.  I miss you...and regardless of what happens...I'm never giving up on us either. 


(She bends over to kiss him and she sits back down besides him.  Her hands tug and his own.)


Ashely:  Please, (crying)...please come back to me, skipper....


(Ashley looks up at Shepard and takes in a deep breath.)


Ashley:  "O Captain!  my Captain!  our fearful trip is done;
  The Ship has weather'd ever rack, the prize we sought 
is won;
The port is near, the bells I hear, the people all exulting,
While follow eyes the steady keel, the vessel grim and 
daring:
       But O heart!  heart!  heart!
    O the bleeding drops of red...
    Where on the deck my Captain lies,
    Fallen....cold...and...."


(She cannot bring herself to say the last words and starts crying with her face in her hands.  As she is sobbing, Shepard's hand rests itself against the top of her hand.  She looks up and he is looking at her, exhausted and struggling to move.)


Shepard: And here I thought you were a fan of Tennyson...


Ashley:  Shepard!  (She jumps into his arms, and they share a tender embrace)


(Ashley squeezes him a little too hard) 


Shepard:  Ow! (Coughs) Careful, Ash. 


Ashley:  Sorry (smiles).  I thought I was never going to see you again...I thought I'd never be able to tell you how important you are to me...I thought...


Shepard:  (playfully)  Are you going to keep on talking, or are you going to shut up and kiss me? 


Ashley:  (Smiles)  I think I can do that.


(They lean in close to each other and share a passionate kiss.  The screen pans back, as they continue to kiss each other as the scene fades to black)

Liara's ending was awesome and EPIC, , BioWare needs to fix those endings because there no point of making another Mass Effect game that's happening before everything or after it as it makes no sense after those endings.

When the laser beam hits Shepard, he is nearly dead.  He is beaten, broken, bloodied.  Whether he is correct or not, be believes that his squad mates are dead (which in my case, was his lover Ashley and his best friend Garrus).  He is ready to die...he's just going to take the Reapers with him.  This is why your re-write of the confrontation with ghostboy doesn't really fit.  You're showing Shepard to be angry and confrontational, but at this point, my Shepard was accepting his fate.

While i appreciate your point i don't think that Shepard being near death would completely change his character. He is willing to fight even when there is no hope of winning. Thats his character. So it doesnt make sense for him to just go along with whatever the catalyst tells him to do. Why does Shepard even trust the catalyst? it could just be a reaper trick to get him to stop fighting.

(She reaches towards the citadel which is hundreds of miles above her.  She collapses on the ground and Garrus holds her, while sad music begins to play.)


Shepard (narration):  Hope...


(The next scene shows the wreckage of the citadel with the N7 chest plate with dog tags sticking out of the rubble.)


Shepard (narration continued):  That was one thing they never understood. Regardless of how dark things got...there was always hope. 


(Suddenly there is a gasp for air, and the chest starts rising in sudden spasms for air)


Shepard:  And as long as we had that, we knew we could endure. 


(A normandy rescue team surveys the wreckage of the citadel, all is silent except for the music playing in the background.  Jack and Liara use their powers to move wreckage, Garrus digs through rubble, and Tali uses her omni tool to look for life signs.  As the screen zooms in on her omni tool, there are the faint, rhythmic movements of a heart beating.)


Shepard:  And endure we did...but that is not to say that victory is without its price.  For where there is joy there is also sorrow... and with every life saved there are lives which are lost...


(There is a military funeral for Anderson and hundreds of others who fought and died in this war.  Miranda's sister is there with a bouquet of flowers as she places them beside the grave of her sister.)


Shepard:  But we find ways to rebuild, to regroup...


(Scene shows the different alien civilizations working together to rebuild their world.


Shepard:  And to work together...


(Scene shows Eve (the female Krogan) joining the council at the citadel.)


Shepard:  Because slowly...


(Scene shows Liara with her people in her homeworld)


Shepard:  We learn to live, 


(EDI is helping Joker walk out of the ship and onto the war torn earth)


Shepard:  laugh


(James is losing at a game of poker and he slams down the cards playfully and shakes his head)


Shepard: and love again.  


(Scene Shows Garrus embracing his family)


Shepard:  For in those moments...


(Scene shows a woman in a white albeit loose fitting dress standing before a canyon.  The viewer sees only the back of the woman and the screen slowly fades to black.)


Shepard:  We make life meaningful.  


(Credits roll)




(At the end of the credits, you seen the woman looking at the canyon before her.  As the camera pans around you see it is Tali, but without her faceplate or armor.  Her beautiful, black hair blows in the breeze as she closes her eyes and savors the feeling of it.  Across her neck are the neck bracelets of her suit, but her outfit is the one the player sees in her photograph given to Shepard.)


Shepard:  And here I thought you wanted beach front property?


(She turns around, and Shepard, walking with a slight limp moves up beside her.  He smiles and she holds his hand while resting her head on his shoulder.)


Tali:  (Laughs)  Why can't we have both (she makes her fingers into a rectangle)  I still want the window looking out over here. And the kitchen will be here, and our room can look out over... 


(Shepard kisses her forehead)


Shepard:  One thing at a time Tali'Zora Vas Normandy, fighting a Reaper invasion was one thing, but building a house...(Tilts his head from one side to another as if uncertain) that's something else entirely. 


Tali:  Well, at least you're used to working under pressure.  She places her hand over her stomach to reveal she is  pregnant. 


(Shepard places his hand over her own that is covering her stomach)


Shepard:  I love you


Tali:  I love you too


(They kiss)


(Shepard bends down and kisses her stomach, as he whispers the phrase is her own language that means "a want for all time.")


-END OF STORY-




LIARA-PARAGON


(Liara is crawling towards a heap of rubble for cover.  She was apart of the assault towards the transport relay before the Reaper destroyed nearly everyone in the squad.  She leans out of cover to fire a couple blasts at a Marauder.  She pulls the trigger a third time and the gun clicks.  Before the creature can strike, its body bursts into flame as it withers on the ground in pain.  


Liara:  By the Goddess!


(An explosion rings out around her, as the Giant reaper crashes into the ground.  Pieces of itself fly off into the distance, as cheers erupt from her fellow soldiers around her.)


Liara:  (She leans her head back and closes her eyes)  Shepard, you did it.  
 
(Suddenly the citadel/ crucible complex explodes above her.  She jumps to her feet and looks in disbelief at the sight.)


Liara: (tears running down her eyes)  No, no, no, no....


(There is a flashback of when Shepard died the first time.  Liara shakes her head and races towards the transport hub.  Garrus (or whoever you used during the final assault) grabs her)


Garrus:  What the hell are you doing?


Liara:  (Desperate) NO!  LET GO OF ME!!!!


Garrus:  It's suicide!


Liara:  (Sobbing in between breaths)  I WON'T LOSE HIM AGAIN!!!


(She generates a mass effect field, which helps her to break free of his grip.  She runs towards the light as Garrus screams for her to stop.  She leaps into the light and is teleported into the adjacent chamber.  Explosions ring out around her, as she darts from side to side, trying to stay on her feet.  Before her lies a pile of rubble, with two support columns collapsed over top of it.  Out of the pile lies Shepard's hand.)


Liara:  SHEPARD!!


(She digs into the rubble, while explosions deafen the background.  The screen flashes to scenes when she first met Shepard, when she last saw him before he died, and finally when he promised her, he would never leave her again.  Tears cloud her eyes, and finally the viewer sees Liara pull Shepard out of the debris.  She holds him closely, placing her hands to his face.)


Liara:  Don't you die on me again.  You promised.  YOU PROMISED!!


(An explosion occurs above her, which sends a portion of a column and more debris right on top of her.  Liara holds Shepard's body close to her and screams as the pillar falls onto the viewers perspective and everything goes black.)


(The next scene, shows the spot where both Liara and Shepard were buried in the rubble.  Shepard is heard speaking.)

(Suddenly, there is an explosion of blue light that sends all of the debris flying at the screen.  There in the middle is Liara sitting over Shepard.  The blue light from the mass effect field Liara generated dissipates on her skin.  She looks towards Shepard's body, whose chest remains silent.)


Shepard (narration continued):  there was always hope.

(Scene shows Liara talking with her asari advisers on her homeworld.  A man walks up to her, but the viewer can only see the back of him.  She looks toward the person and smiles.)


Shepard:  We make life meaningful again.  


(Credits roll)


(The viewer sees the person walking up to Liara was Shepard.  They share a tender embrace.)


Liara:  (excited)  Shepard!


Shepard:  I hope I wasn't interrupting anything, Ambassador T'soni.  


Liara:  (Smiles before turning to her PDA) Ambassador...hardly, but someone needs to regulate the reconstruction efforts of Thessia.  (She punches some information onto her pad) There.  (She puts the pad away)  I'm surprised your here.  I thought you were going to be busy today?


Shepard:  (Scatches his head) I was, but lets just say I had help from a couple friends.  Besides, I thought we might be able to have some alone time for once.  


Liara:  (She moves closer to him)  Well, in that case... (she smiles before leaning in for a kiss)


(Suddenly a child's voice is heard not so far away)


Asari child:  Mommy, Daddy!


(Shepard and Liara turn to see a little asari child running as fast as it can.  Joker haphazardly stumbles to catch up to the little kid with EDI walking calmly behind. )


(The child rushes up to Shepard and hugs his leg.  Shepard smiles to himself and picks the kid up in his arms.  He shakes his head playfully as Liara leans in and kisses the child on the forehead.  She looks at Shepard and smiles back.)


Liara:  So much for being alone.  


Joker:  I'm sorry, commander, but (continues to breathe heavy) she was too fast for me.  


(Joker is bent over trying to catch his breath.)


EDI:  (Looks at Joker)  You know Jeff, the statistical probability of being able to entertain the child would be greatly improved if you didn't insist on her watching the teleprompter while you fall asleep.  


Joker:  Hey, I was just resting my eyes.  Besides I would like to see you do better.  


EDI:  Maternal instincts are natural responses in my AI programming.  The ability to preserve life while fostering independence and autonomy was no different than what you and commander Shepard did for me aboard the Normandy. 


Shepard:  So you're saying, EDI, that you could be a good mother?


EDI:  Yes, but when I brooch the subject with Jeff, he pretends to have an auditory malfunction and falls asleep.  


Joker:  Yeah, well...(he begins to turn red). 


Shepard:  It's okay, Joker.  I appreciate the effort.  (He turns to Liara) Well, we can always get lunch...just the three of us?  


Liara:  (smiles) That sounds wonderful.  (She wraps her arm around Shepard's as she rests her head on his shoulder while the three of them walk off into the distance of Thessia.)

ASHLEY- PARAGON


(Ashley is running from cover to cover along the columns on a third story building.  She returns fire across the street and takes out a couple Cannibals who collapse on the ground.  Garrus covers her six and reloads, while she lets loose another burst of fire.  A Brute breaks through the wall and charges at them.  Garrus gets hit and flung into the nearby wall, while Ashley quickly dodges out of the way.  Garrus removes his pistol and fires a couple shots at the creature while struggling to get up.  Ashley activates her omnitool and a blade comes out of it.  She slashes at the creatures throat and it falls down dead.  She rushes to Garrus, who stumbles to his feet.  They are surrounded by Marauder and Cannibals, and just when it all looks bleak, they suddenly erupt in flames and fall over dead.)


(She looks in the distance and sees the Reapers caught up in explosions)


Ashley:  He did it (smiles).  


(Suddenly the citadel/ crucible complex explodes)


Ashley:  Shepard!  (She gets on the com)  Joker, I need an evac now.  We need to get Shepard!


(The com hisses back with static)


Ashley:  DAMMIT!  (she throws her helmet against the floor.  She looks around and sees a shuttle above her.  Garrus moves up besides her, and he notices it too.)


(Ashley sprints towards the shuttle)


Ashley:  Garrus!


Garrus:  I'm on it (as he races after her)


(Garrus  preps the shuttle while Ashley works the controls)


Garrus:  Let me just say that if this goes horribly wrong, I'll be the first to say '"I told you so."  


Ashely:  He'd never leave us behind, Garrus.


Garrus:  Which is exactly why I'm coming with you. 


(The shuttle lifts off and flies above a couple Reapers that are exploding around them.  They sail past the long, metallic tentacles which are splintering apart in small explosions of shrapnel and flame.  One of the explosions rocks the shuttle, and Ashley is seen steadying her balance, while trying to keep the craft on target to the citadel.)


(As they approach the docking area of the citadel, another Reaper is falling alongside of it.  It shatters apart, and one of its tentacles explodes and sends the Shuttle flying into the hanger bay.  It slams into the wall, and parts of its thruster gets ripped off as it tumbles on its side and screeches to a complete stop.)


Ashley:  Garrus, you okay?


Garrus:  (Stumbles while trying to get on his feet)  I'm fine, just go find him!


(Ashley runs through a collapsing corridor, and makes her way to a pile of rubble with Shepard's hand sticking out of it.)


Ashley:  Shepard!


(She digs into the rubble as scenes of the first time they met flash across the screen.  She lifts up another pile of debris as another shot shows the first time they kissed.  She pulls him out of the wreckage and cradles him close)


Ashley:  (Whispers)  Barely breathing...come one, Shepard, you're not going to leave me now...not like this.  


(She puts his arm across her neck and tries to carry him alongside her)


Ashley:  Comon, soldier....GET ON YOUR FEET!


(She hobbles forward with him as they catch up to Garrus, who is surveying the damage on the shuttle.  They stare at the exploding scenery around them.  Garrus casts a weary look at her.  Ashley falls to her knees, with Shepard's body leaning against her.)

(Sudden there are the sounds of jet engines in the back ground.  Garrus looks to the distance and Ashley's face lights up at the sound of it.)


Shepard (narration continued):  there was always hope. 


(The Normandy flies up into view and pulls up alongside the docking station.)


Joker:  Heard you might need a hand, Lt. Commander?


(Ashley smiles as Garrus helps her load Shepard aboard the ship, and she quickly leaps aboard after him.)


Shepard:  And as long as we had that, we knew we could endure. 


(The Normandy flies off as the citadel docking bay explodes in the background.)

(Credits roll)


(Shepard is unconscious on a hospital bed.  Ashley is there sitting besides him.  She holds his hand, while her eyes teared up.)


Ashley:  Shepard...(she pauses)...I...I don't know where to begin.  For the longest time, I thought you'd always be there for me, that things would never be like this.  


(She caresses the side of his face)


Ashley:  You told me how you never gave up on us, even after all my stubbornness, you never once let me go.  You gave me hope, Shepard, more than I had ever known.  I miss you...and regardless of what happens...I'm never giving up on us either. 


(She bends over to kiss him and she sits back down besides him.  Her hands tug and his own.)


Ashely:  Please, (crying)...please come back to me, skipper....


(Ashley looks up at Shepard and takes in a deep breath.)


Ashley:  "O Captain!  my Captain!  our fearful trip is done;
  The Ship has weather'd ever rack, the prize we sought 
is won;
The port is near, the bells I hear, the people all exulting,
While follow eyes the steady keel, the vessel grim and 
daring:
       But O heart!  heart!  heart!
    O the bleeding drops of red...
    Where on the deck my Captain lies,
    Fallen....cold...and...."


(She cannot bring herself to say the last words and starts crying with her face in her hands.  As she is sobbing, Shepard's hand rests itself against the top of her hand.  She looks up and he is looking at her, exhausted and struggling to move.)


Shepard: And here I thought you were a fan of Tennyson...


Ashley:  Shepard!  (She jumps into his arms, and they share a tender embrace)


(Ashley squeezes him a little too hard) 


Shepard:  Ow! (Coughs) Careful, Ash. 


Ashley:  Sorry (smiles).  I thought I was never going to see you again...I thought I'd never be able to tell you how important you are to me...I thought...


Shepard:  (playfully)  Are you going to keep on talking, or are you going to shut up and kiss me? 


Ashley:  (Smiles)  I think I can do that.


(They lean in close to each other and share a passionate kiss.  The screen pans back, as they continue to kiss each other as the scene fades to black)

This is sort of the central problem with most of these fan endings, while they may seem better than ones we got: a. they don't account for any production costs if they were to be actually made, and b. read like fanfiction.

The game doesn't need some big LI thing to be successful. People who don't follow those routes still deserve a safisfactory ending, and more importantly what it needs to do is end the reaper cycle in a way that is satisfying and leaves room going forwards, providing closre without rigid structure because frankly the post game scenario is not an especially happy one. A six-month lapse is not going to be one where everything is sunshine and rainbows, it's going to take centures before the galaxy really starts to recover and security is going to be a problem with all of the fleets in shambles.

I don't mean to slight anybody but most of these fan creations play out mostly the same way which while not bad, aren't really necessary. What they really need to do and what they would most likely do is just put the endings together in a way that makes more sense and creates a framework moving forwards. My opinion of course but it doesn't seem vitally necessary to have a video or a slide with a caption going over what happened with the Krogans in the future since those are mostly answered in game, Wreav wants to go to war, Wrex wants to rebuild fairly peacefully, or the genophage isn't cured and the status quo remains. The problem arises when the ending makes is seem like everyone is either trapped on Earth which isn't a good framework moving forwards without some context. The LI ending stuff beyond maybe an embrace immediately following the endgame seems like unnecessary pandering that people who want to write their own stories about blue children can answer for themselves.

 Here are the endings that I wanted after 3 games and 100+ hours spent in this universe.  The I believe in the people I've come to know and trust ending. Not some jaded, holier-than-thou being who's seen cycle after cycle and thinks he knows better just because this is how it's always been.

Things change, people change, and I think that his attempted control is actually what forced the change.  This cycle was about unity of all the races in the cycle, unlike all the previous ones where it was about domination.

Lucir, thanks for writing the ending that I wanted.  Sadly, it's not the one I got from Bioware.
