This is something strange that I've experienced in both ME2, and now ME3 - when I am in a place like the citadel, and pressing v or m should show the area map, it.... doesn't "stick".

The map quickly flashes on the screen, on and off. If I quickly keep pressing v (or m), I can sort of see the map, but of course I can't see any mouse-over lables (if there are such things on a map - don't know, since it doesn't stay up for me)

Is this a known bug? Am I doing something wrong?

[edit: Just found out how to make it work - you just have to tap the key VERY fast, once. If you leave the key pressed down for more than a small fraction of a second, the map disappears as fast as it came up.]

bump.

Am I the only one with this problem? Tried to re-map the key for "navigation assistance" from v to the middle mouse button, just to see whether the problem could have somehow been due to my keyboard - no change. The only way I can see the map of the area is to keep tapping "v" very fast. The map closes immediately after it opens, whether or not I keep the key pressed down.

Nope, happens for me too. Have to double tap V to get the map. I'm only on Citadel after Mars. Bizarely I'm sure it was working on Mars.

Sorry, just re-read what you wrote.  You're binding to mouse button.  Maybe that's a second symptom of the problem.  Try mapping back to V and see if you don't get map unless you double tap V.  On Mars pressing V showed me where to go, now it does nothing.

Perhaps 1 tap of V shows the next objective on screen, whereas 2 taps of V brings up a map.  you might be having problems with the mouse because the mouse buttons register clicks differently to keyboard activation?  Just guessing.

V=view works fine for me. M=map is kind of flaky sometimes I have to push it a few times quickly to get it to work.

No, only binded it to the mouse button temporarily to see if it would make a difference - it didn't, so I changed it back to the default.

But I think I just solved this
: by half accident, I just managed to get the map up, and staying up. So I experimented pressing "v" in various ways.

It turns out that in order to get the map to stay up, I have to press "v" VERY quickly - just a tap of the key, as quick as I can. If I leave the key pressed down for a fraction of a second too long, the map disappears.

Really weird. But I'm glad that now I finally can use the map, even if it requires fast reflexes.
