A lot of why having 17 endings wasn't satisfactory is that the first 16 are actually 8 pairs.  So right there, it's down to 8 plus the NG+.  Of those 8, each one shows us almost exactly the same things on screen, just with three colors.  The implications are different, but what we see is a color swap.  It might sound unreasonable to be dissatisfied with so many endings, but when it turns out that they are all variants on the same ending, it's not that surprising.

You need to start going by what people tell you we finished the game.. I did it three times.. Its  the same ending with different colors.

The vairables they talk about have no real effect on the ending... You should cut out and run if you have not actually finished the game.

Only 3 endings, and they are virtually identical in practice.  Space magic of varying colors fly out and destroy Mass Relays.   Reapers leave or die.  Normandy is in FTL for no logical reason and gets stranded.  FIN.

There's really only 3 endings... And they more or less leave everything in the same state anyway.

But frankly, my main issue is the lack of closure. We needed an epilogue and we didn't get one

Yeah, OP, it might be a good idea to at least read up on what the endings are, so you'll understand why we're so upset.

I actually explained it to a friend of mine, today, who hasn't picked up ME3 yet, but enjoys hearing about the story ahead of time. He went from "I don't believe it. Bioware wouldn't do that." to "What the ****!?!" to "That can't be it. That can't be the end of Mass Effect!"

This is after I told him to come up with what he thought the worst ending possible could be. Bioware's ending actually topped it.

You do realize that this is spoiler allowed section? Well, red & blue are great endings. Green is like the kid is being a smartass. Michio Kaku & RJ Sawyer will tell you that synthetic and organic can live in harmony without the need of making new framework of DNA all across the galaxy. That's like a new kind of genocide to create new population.

I found blue particularly bitter-sweet. I cried when my shep smiled before he fade away thinking of his love (for me it's Kaidan ;D).

But regardless of what color the ending is, all hell break lose when Joker is running away from the blast and some of my crew fighting on earth miraculously come out of the Normandy standing on a random planet.....

Another thing that these endings don't make any sense is when the heck did Joker get his super faster than light speed reflex to escape instantly while fighting the reaper.

When the heck did my crew I brought to jump into citadel go blasted by Harbringer got on Normandy?

How did Joker get so much time to jump all the way to massrelay? Actually, answer the first question first... and the list goes on

OP there are there major endings. and then minor varations of the endings. But in the end all three major endings are almost the same.

the whole 16 endings is based on your galactic readiness, and if you destroyed the collector base or not, but in the end there are three major choices to pick, and no matter what you pick it ends the same, and opens up the same questions.

The ME3 experience has done a lot to erode my confidence in mainstream review sites.  I don't disagree per se with the generally high review scores that the game has gotten as most of the game is great, but more of the reviews should have sent up a warning flare about the ending.  Building on that, what you've read is.....less than complete and almost deceptive.

The YELLOW ending comes into play when BioWare/EA "listens" to the fans and created a "happy ending DLC" which involves YELLOW explosions, the same cut scenes, and happy scrolling text at the end. The Star Child remains.

Funny thing about IGN's ending list is how dishonest it is. You probably haven't looked at them to avoid spoilers, but the two lists basically mirror each other - but even then that's being generous because the fact is there are only three choices, each with two variations, and two of them with a little "extra" thrown in depending on your action in ME3 (and only ME3, nothing from ME1 or ME2 influences the ending).

Yeah, the 17 endings thing is pretty stupid. I have the strategy guide, and when I got to the end I looked at the spoiler section for it, and noticed how tiny the variations are between them all. How about this, I'll explain it like this, spoiler free.

There's 3 endings, let's call them C, S, and D. There are several variations of each one, based on your EMS. If you choose D with over 4000 or 5000 EMS, (based on a previous choice) you get a very very short extra scene. The 17th ending is actually a part of all other endings and is a very short scene that has nothing to do with anything of importance.

There are some minor differences, but the main point of each ending is the same. And even then, the ending provides no epilogue, so there's only 3 variations in theory, all it actually shows is 3 different colors, and it leaves the ramifications of those colors up to the player's imagination.

That about sum everything up guys?

Guys, technically speaking it's still "17 possible endings". though the truth is of course "3 major flavors with 16 different combos".

And Shepard didn't get his little blue children ****** me off, as well.

Though I can confirm best EMS with just singleplayer is 3000+, that means the "You die, but Joker get his gal" ending.

Now, I'm doing my New Game+ round, and wonder which extra stuff to do can bump up the readiness percentage, multiplayer or that iPad game?

I disagree. Choices may not mean anything in the ending, but my choices have meant plenty into scenarios throughout the game and have been interesting to see them playout. 

You are right to keep an open mind and be skeptical. Unfortunately, we are not trolling you. (We wish we were.)  It really is what we claim. The reason why people are upset is because up until the end the game delivers on our choices beautifully (as you have experienced). It just makes the outcome that much more jarring.

This isin't obi wan kenobi saying that darth vader killed luke's father. No "from a certain point of view" thing. There are 3 endings. Your mileage may vary according to your EMS. You may only have the choice of 1 or 2 of these endings according to your EMS. You could possibly have even a 4th ending, where you die and a box where you click "Resume" "Load" or "Exit" (again, a 3 choice taunt) is offered.

If you loaded a save from ME2, or ME3, you get the "secret ending", which really does nothing at all, and i wish i could skip it, because.. well, lets keep it civil.

I can see how the PR folks at IGN (theres no way thier reporters.) Might mistake that for a seperate ending however. They probably ment 17 seperate cutscene files, most of which are pretty alike with minor differences according to your EMS. For example. Green button, high ems, they cheer when reapers do thier thing. Low ems, they dont cheer. Woot, two "endings", right there.

You don't even have to do that, just wait until after the post-credits sequence and the game will kick you back to before the final fight. Then you'll get to do it again and get another variation on a crappy ending.
