Seen LOTS of complaints about the endings, from I'm OK with this but not that to hating everything.  What there is little of is plausible solutions to put in there.  Something that leaves the current decisions intact, but could be added.  Something that could actually be done to fix this, and not just off in left field endings or get rid of all the endings. It's too late for that even if you want it, not going to happen.

Personally, I would of have a choice to take the starchild/AI control center offline, completely ignoring what starchild says.  MAYBE it will be explodey like destroy was.  Either way with high enough war assets shep can survive.  All the reapers do what sovereign did for a bit after Saren was destroyed, as in go offline for a bit for people who didn't play the first ME.

Renegade characters  fleet goes to automatically kill them all, with fleet strength determining whether entire fleet and earth gets destoryed taking them out because the last few came back online, to only the fleet decimated, to fleet killed them all before they came back online for maxed assets.

With Paragon characters, everyone is informed that reapers are actually enslaved civilazations and are spared.  Low assets, the reapers go insane, destroying everything around them, including each other.  Mid, some hostile, some peaceful.  Fight each other, with fleet joining in.  Fleet decimated, but earth saved.  Max war assets everything is happy times with reapers and chit chatting about who they used to be and what they will do now.  It can be explained that the reaper mental state was due to ho well the crucible was completed, and it touched their minds like it did starchilds.

Something like this could be added without asking bioware to pretend the current endings don't exist and to just redo it all...bit of an absurd request.  Anyway, have fun posting suggestions!  I'' be reading them:)

The ending allows them to start a new trilogy without carrying the burden of imports from this trilogy. They can't keep bringing that information forward indefinitely and this was the cut-off. Accept it. It had to be this way. Allowing a "way out" would have been shooting themselves in the foot as they move forward with the franchise.

ME4 can't be "The Hunt for Sheperd" the way KOTOR 2 was "The Hunt for Revan". They had to put his story to bed, definitively.

I have the perfect ending. I retconned my game so that Shepard died at the end of the suicide run in ME2 and doesn't have to deal with any of this glowy, godchild trash. I went out like a hero.

(After Anderson dies the crucible is seen charging up with sad piano playing)

Narrative of Shepards Voice - I have made my choices ...

(Cutscene shows groups you have rallied fighting vigorously against the reapers.  Paragon choices you had made across all 3 games even renegade options that were "good".)

Narrative - I have made my mistakes...

(Cutscene showing various mistakes such as the Geth being destoryed, Tali jumping off a cliff, rachni queen living/dying, etc from past choices that were "bad" across all 3 games.  Even renegade and paragon options that were intentionally "bad" for ME3 across all games.

Narrative - But I have never stopped fighting for them.  To give them hope when they had no one else.  I survived for them.  Lived for them.

(Cutscene showing your friends fighting Jack, Miranda, Samara, Kasumi, etc.  Also cutscenes from the first and second game showing you saving your friends and the consequences of the loyalty missions in 2)

Narrative Continues as the Crucible is seen destroying the reaper force - Live ... another day.  That is all I can give you.  A Chance.  I wish it were more ... forgive me.

Shepard is seen slumping over lifeless.

As a "Semi-Hopeful" ending maybe the Reapers come in an devastate the galaxy, the Crucible fires but it isn't completely effective. A great deal of Reapers are destroyed but all advanced organic life is extinguished in the process and the galaxy zooms out and fades to black.
-Then the screen refocuses on a desolate snowy planet, a slight whirring is heard that grows louder until a huge beam of light descends down followed by an alien looking craft. It lands and the screen fades to back again.
-The screen refocuses again to reveal ruins, looks like Noveria. Two aliens wearing primitive looking(by ME standards) spacesuits descend into the ruins where there is a monolith, looks like something from the Citadel. Inscribed on it are diagrams of each of the races from Mass Effect next to star charts showing their homeworlds and various influential organizations, The Alliance, Turian Empire, Citadel Symbol, N7, etc.
-The extraterrestrials gaze in awe at the monolith before a dim, dirty light opens from below, illuminating a part of the monolith showing the Normandy and all the team members from the previous game with Shepard standing front and center.
-Suddenly a VI starts up and a massive holographic interface opens with diagrams of the reapers and tons of text too small to be read by the viewer. The extraterrestrials turn to each other in disbelief for a brief period until the ending music begins, the screen fades one final time and the credits begin to roll.

What do we think?

Would have preferred an ending without that stupid Deus Ex Machina floating platform from heaven thing. Seriously, everything looks pretty hopeless, then BAM THE KID YOU COULDN'T SAVE IS HERE, /and/ he brought you a floating taxi from god. Such a load of crap.

My suggestion:
(The setting for is right after you finish talking to Anderson, but before Hackett calls in about the Crucible not firing. Keep in mind some minor stuff would be changed based on Shepard's bio, such as place of birth, gender, etc):

Crucible fires off, killing the Reapers but also taking out the Citadel and leaving London and the area around it uninhabitable for quite a long time. You see the blast through Shepard's eyes and hear the comm-chatter announcing victory on all fronts from everyone you helped throughout the three games, and Shepard's "eyelids" close over the scene and the audio fades out to cheering and calls of Shepard's glorious victory over the Reapers.

Epilogue: Shepard's love interest(if there's one) and remaining squad(NOT including the two squaddies you had with you when the Sovereign-class Reaper blasted you, because they died, for obvious reasons.) gather along with Hackett and dignitaries from all of the races that committed to the war(EVERY race, even the Rachni if you saved them, in which case the Asari from ME2 that contacted you would be there as the queen's delegate.) at Shepard's funeral. It's a widely-broadcasted event, and people the galaxy over mourn, or if they're not capable of mourning, stand there solemnly contemplating Shep's life. A quick flashby of all of the important folks that died over the games, from Kaiden/Ashley to the two squadmates that were at ground zero with Shep, even Saren, Illusive Man, and Anderson are shown.(Saren and IM weren't really evil; they got indoctrinated and realized their mistakes too late to resist the will of the Reapers.) Shepard's coffin is lowered, and Hackett speaks: "The man we lay to rest today, known across the galaxy as Commander Shepard is the man behind the defeat of the Reapers. Many knew of this great man, but only those gathered with us today, until now, truly understood how great of an impact his influence, and ultimately his sacrifice had on the galaxy. Today we mourn him, but tomorrow, we honor him, not just by rebuilding. No; Shepard united the galaxy, made one out of many, and delegates from all races have agreed that it is in our best interests, and in the best interests of our descendants, to preserve the knowledge gained from the moment the Geth attacked Eden Prime, to the moment Harbinger and every other Reaper was destroyed, and use it to ensure that our galaxy remains safe for generations to come. Tomorrow is a new beginning, filled with hope. Hope that Commander Shepard gave us, and with which we will win all wars, as one galaxy, united."

Probably could do a bit better with some tweaking, but eh. It's certainly a lot less depressing.

God kid says he's peace.

Shepard begins walking towards one of the three paths, he looks into the window and sees the normandy getting attacked.
This starts playing:

Montage of memories, sacrifices and everything.

Shepard shakes his head, God-kid behind him has gotten red-eyes and harbinger's voice starts saying

"Let me ascend you Shepard".

Shepard turns, and says he will not be indocrinated, thinks about Anderson, LI, even The Ilusive Man. Charges a heavy melee hit, Reapers from everywhere on Earth come to the crucible in aid of God-kid/harbinger.

Shepard goes to the destroy mechanism and rips it out, as the fire consumes everything Shepard finally smiles with unwaivered resolve as he remembers all the people he met, and all the things he did.

Big explosion space mumbo jumbo that triggers self-destruct mechanism on the reapers.

Players with enough Readyness and effective military, can be rescued at the last second by the Normandy, game ends with the alive shepard holding their LI

"We did it"

Fde to black. Credits with images showing earth rebuilt, rannoch rebuilt, And major npc and squadmates.

Using the conduit is a good idea, but an addendum to it: it would have to be restarted.  Vigil shut down, was lost, and all the protheans died because of lack of power.  It's part of the reason you HAD to get the Mako to the conduit before it shut down, partially because time restraints, partially because it couldn't be reactivated.

Might have to revise your plan a bit.

Go back to original dark energy idea that fits the game and is forshadowed through all 3games
