I've seen a bunch of posts where people say sunlight is finally working, but when I try to use it the ground in my level still stays all black.

I assume everyone is adjusting the sunlight setting in the Exportable Area Properties dialog.

What settings are you all using for sunlight to get it to work right?

Thanks!

I haven't noticed any special settings needed to make the sunlight appear. Just click on the "Set sunlight" button in the Area Properties dialog. Now, a small blue circle with a red arrow will appear in the lower-left part of your screen. Grab & rotate it: adjust the sunlight so the arrow is slanted downward towards the ground. Now you should already see how the sunlight will look.

Oh, and you are using the newest lightmapper, aren't you? The most recent one can be found here: "http://social.bioware.com/project/717/#files" Sunlight does not work with the older versions.

Sunlight will give you some directional light for atmosphere, but you can't use that as your only light source in your level. Be sure to have at least one ambient light source to light the shadows, and one or more static light sources to light up characters and objects.

Sunlight does not seem to affect anything except characters, as far as I can tell. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong, but I don't know what.
