Jeff, posting this is inflammatory and can't go anywhere good.

Mr. Heir is probably hurt and disappointed, so he's coping with sarcasm. The BSN is hurt and disappointed and won't react well to sarcasm.

Damn, it's like Horizon all over again.

I don't agree with you, Shinobu, but I respect your opinion. If that is the ruling of the moderator high court then I'll accept it as such. But my disclaimer explicitly states that we should be completely courteous toward Mr. Heir, who I know full well poured his heart and soul into the game, but that this is a golden opportunity not to let the rare comment on the state of the endings in this early, blackout period sneak past us.

People have invested five years into a game only to be screwed over in five minutes. They have every right to be upset. Sorry if I'm not exactly in the mood to kiss ass.

In basic, its a lamprey that attached itself to the gaming communities years ago because a guy could draw gaming relevent comics, then somewhere in there an agent got involved and somehow Penny Arcade is some kind of bastion of profound gaming insight and witticism.

I'll bet my last dollar that Yahtzee is going to come out next Wednesday and make all these gaming "media" people look like over-opinionated, out of touch douchebags.

Which they are.

Yahtzee says what needs to be said. The gaming media needs more people like him.

Am I seriously the only person who sees the blatant sarcasm in the tweet?...

"There is a movement to change the ending of Mass Effect 3. I love it. I support it."

Ok, I support this.

Then he goes on to say....

"I want this for everything. I'm starting a letter writing campaign to have Gatbsy end with a steamy sex scene"

Pretty damn unlikely and sarcastic.

"Max Payne should end with a surprise party and his wife and kid are there. Someone needs to write the petition."

Yeah, he's definitely being a dick about it.

Um, no, that was the point of the thread, was drawing attention to it in a constructive way.

Use the reply option. Retweeting is essentially just copying it for your own twitter page.

Supporting.

And again, everyone. BE CIVIL. You'll make the desire for a less senseless finale look just as silly as some think it is if you come across as raving lunatics about it.

Civility is a must. Emotions are running high, don't let it get the best of you. There are legitimate concerns here, but if we only come across as crazed fans, those legitimate concerns will be moot.

Agreed

The current endings don't make sense. It just doesn't work, plain and simple. Unless their intention was to completely destroy the universe they spent three games and metric butt-tons of other media creating... In which case I'm just sad they wanted to do that, and will move on. I realise this single person doesn't speak for Bioware, but this is hardly a matter any of them should be joking about.

If they intend to keep this universe rolling, and intend to create more Mass Effect games: This has to be undone or at least elaborated upon. The current endings open up tons of questions and are riddled with plotholes - something no writer or game dev worth his salt would accept in his/her own creation.

Bioware reacted to errors in a ME book by saying they would get them fixed, because it was so blatantly obvious that the stuff in the book didn't work with the lore of the ME universe. Fans called those errors out and they said they'd get them worked out.

I quote what was said about the book:

The teams at Del Rey and BioWare would like to extend our sincerest apologies to the Mass Effect fans for any errors and oversights made in the recent novel Mass Effect: Deception. We are currently working on a number of changes that will appear in future editions of the novel.
We would like to thank all Mass Effect fans for their passion and dedication to this ever-growing world, and assure them that we are listening and taking this matter very seriously.

These endings don't work with the lore of the ME universe - unless the writers' plan was to destroy the entire universe. Why is it acceptable? Fans are calling Bioware out on the errors in these endings. Why? As the quote says - Passion and dedication to the ever-growing world of Mass Effect.

You know I don't hate the endings, leonia. I am only aiding in doing what I feel the community's movement ought to be seizing-upon if they have any hope of going somewhere with this.

If I've offended you by posting this then I am sorry.

Penny Arcade are no talent hacks, and I'm clueless as to their popularity. That said, I think my feelings are probably mroe or less in line eith theirs:

I feel that Bioware should stand by their endings. I thought they were all god awful and a rather fatuous and contrived attempt to appear avant-garde and edgy, but these are their intended endings, for better or worse. I do think we're owed a good explanation however, I'd like to hear every writer and designer weigh in on the decision and elucidate use as to what they were thinking, because for all I'm worth I cannot figure out their logic.

Ben Kuchera sounds like he hasn't played the ending of ME3.

That, or he's failing hard at logic.

I respect Yahtzee's accentuate the negative approach but personally I can't stand the guy, not because he's bad, but his act has gotten stale in my opinion.

That comment about Max Payne shows that they missed the point. This isn't about wanting the sunshine and rainbows. This is about plotholes, logical inconsistencies, and most importantly, the fact that we were led to believe that the end would be related to everything else we did. If all my choices led to Shepard dying and the Normandy being stranded, ok, but the thing is, that was the only option and it wasn't dependent on anything other than a number and a single choice made in a bubble.

Why don't the folks that are on other sites understand that? I'm guessing because the basic assumption is that we were just going to be made about the ending because it wasn't happy or something, but that isn't the problem.

That just shows a lack of understanding of the differences between the two mediums. Having a tragic ending in a book and having a forced tragic ending in a video game built around player choice are two very different things.
