Whenever I add a water mesh to a level, whether it's in my module or the single player module (as recommended in the new post), the toolset crashes.

My lightmapper is running (I've got python installed and all that) as well as can be expected, but the water meshes just bring everything to a halt.

Same thing happens when you try to add a water plane while creating a new terrain level.

Is anybody else having these problems?

no, sorry you are.

water meshes are a pain to line up correctly, but they are not causing me tech issues.

cant say i have ever had issue with the water (beside geting it to spawn in game) or the fact that the waterfall is about the size of a shoe...

Georage helped me solve the problem! I can work with water meshes now without crashing my toolset.

Apparently the Radeon graphics card I had (850 or so) was not compatible with Direct x 10 (I'm running Vista and it pushes Direct X 10) even though it wasn't giving me any error messages. At most it can run Direct x9c. I upgraded to a Geforce 9500 which is vista and direct x 10 ready and the water meshes seem to work now using the single player workaround.

Here's a quote from Georage in case anyone else has this problem.

To Bioware: I am pretty sure the DirectX 10 install does not install the Direct3d files needed for the water meshes to "flow" to lower terrain. I believe simply installing DirectX 9.0c alongside DirectX 10 will fix this problem for most Vista users.

Thanks for the help Georage!!

Glad you got it working!

I should actually tweak my "to bioware" message. I think graphic cards that are DirectX 10 compatible will not have your problem. But those with DirectX 9 cards having problems should make sure they have 9.0c installed, and if they are using Vista, they can have 10 installed too. They can reside alongside each other fine.

The problem is that version 10, unlike previous versions, is not backward compatible ... the files needed for Direct3D on DirectX 9 cards are not included automatically.

Cheers!
