"Destroy" ending = Geth and EDI dead?

So... how exactly does "Destroy Reapers" translate over to the Geth and EDI?  I haven't reache the end yet... Does it explicitly state that they bite the dust too, or are people just jumping to conclusions?

As far as I can tell, "destroy reapers" just sends out a galaxy-wide signal via the relay network (destroying them in the process) that tells all reapers to drop dead where they are.

How does it determine the difference between a VI and an AI?  Or a simple dumb terminal?

Geth dying is explicitly stated.

EDI is implied by her lack of appearance in the following scene

Edit: To clarify, it's described as wiping out all synthetic life

It destroys all synthetic life, not just reapers.

It's supposed to destroy all Reaper-based tech and, well, the geth accidentally'd the entire Reaper tech. Plus I think it's specifically stated anyway but I could be wrong.

I've heard reports that EDI can show up at the Normandy crash site anyway though, which would be... well, good. If confounding.

It's "Destroy All Synthetic Life" not "destroy Reapers"

From the scene with the crew getting off the Normandy, the destroy ending does indeed seem to destroy EDI (as she fails to leave the ship as she does in synthesis and control) and I would presume also the Geth. Though I'm unsure how the space magic determines what is synthetic life and what is not, as in theory a Geth is simply a very advanced computer. So does the red space magic destroy everything with a processing core in it?

Yeah, that ending is off then: I can't bear to kill that hot ass (EDI)

I'm just going to pretend it knocks the Geth back down to before Legion stuck their code full of Reaper-bits.

But, yeah, it's the closest we get to a 'fight the power!" option. Reapers go down, God-Kid goes down. The rest is a neccessary sacrifice, one all but the most paragon characters should be willing to make.

It specifically states that that choice will destroy all synthetic life including the geth.

I don't understand how this wave distinguishes between reapers and geth. It is true that geth have reaper software but that's it. So is this a virus that is being spread? Too much arm waving and space magic with no explanation!!!!

The most Paragon of characters might still make one of those choices if they cared enough about the geth and EDI.

It destroys synthetic. It has nothing to do with Reaper tech, but synthetics specifically.

How? Well, the same way synthesis works. Space magic.

In ME2, wasn't destroying the heretics a renegade option and rewriting the paragon? So why was it reversed in this game with the 'best' ending? This is what I don't understand.

It wouldn't be consistent with the Renegade/Paragon distinction to have options that guarantee that Shepard dies be Renegade. Renegade Shep is willing to risk his life, but it takes a Paragon to sacrifice it. Big difference.

But the star child said Shepard is half synthetic, so destroying synthetic kill half Shepard as well?

He's part synthetic, not half. It's reasonable that Shepard may survive on his organic parts.

Supposedly, but if your readiness rating was high enough, you somehow survived.

And since Shep can survive somehow, with the lack of any epilogue whatsoever, it's only presumed that EDI and the Geth are dead. They could be alive... maybe.

EDI is an unshackled AI, she could just as easily shackle herself back to the ship. In my endings for C & D only Joker, Liara & Javik exited the ship. Which is odd because Javik was on my final assault team..

The child is a lie indeed, he feeds you fake info persuading you to make bad decisions...but if you see past the lie AKA destroy ending, then you live

Besides joker I think whoever comes out of your ship is who you took on the final mission. Was for me anyway.

Shepard is interfaced with the computer. It uses Shepard's knowledge to tell them apart. That said, that it can be that particular is wonky.
