And not just the UI.  This was posted on another board by someone who claims to have been involved in the console versions.  Because the board attracts a lot of developers, I tend to think it's legit.

Yes, the console versions are easier than the PC version. This was necessary partly because the change in the interface, and the way characters shift completely over to AI when you soul-jump to another party member, as opposed to the PC version, where characters retain their command queue and movement orders even after you have selected another party member.

Also, with the PC difficulty, it was very unforgiving on a 360 controller because you couldn't effectively control all the members of your party fast enough.

The amount of enemies in the game is more or less the same. They have been reduced somewhat, but the difficulty settings for the console also affect friendly fire, and damage mitigation. We found that these where the PC level of difficulty was particularly unforgiving. Because you can only move one character at a time in the console version, friendly fire damage from aoe spells (fireballs for example) had to be drastically reduced in all but the highest difficulties on console. On the PC, even on Normal, you can take some nasty damage from your own aoe spells if you aren't careful..

In short, both versions are good, but the PC is more Baldur's Gate 2 style with the ability to go top down, and because of the higher capacity for tactical strategy and a mouse interface, it is more difficult. The console version plays more like KOTOR, and is less about group tactics and more about the Player determining the greatest threats and dealing with them, while the AI controlled party members take out the rest.

Interesting.

The di\\fficulty is a fair bit easier on console. I watched two streams of players going through the tower of Ishal with mage PC's, one on 360 the other on PC. The 360 player breezed through the whole thing without pausing or switching characters. The PC had been playing like that and couldn't get past the first room after multiple attempts. Both were playing on normal.

Well it wouldn't shock me if this was true as it all makes perfect sense. But obviously it's unconfirmed rumour.

That has been known for a long time. Just watch some gameplay videos and see for yourselves.

Someone who has the strategy guide says it mentions some specific differences as well, at least as far as differences in what to expect in certain fights.

Another difference is that the Wardog gets access to Fighter talents on the console. This was reportedly done to prevent breakage at high levels.

I knew about the interface differences, didn't know they'd adjusted the difficulty to compensate, mind you think it's a very good thing they did, the PC controls are obviously better.

Not too worried so long as its just a case of it being easier it would only bother me if chinks of oprions and storylines was left out.

I liked KOTOR alot, therefore I am happy.

Besides, I'm more comfortable with a controller than I am with a mouse and keyboard, and I have been playing PC games since wolfenstein 3D.

easier sounds good to me it would only bother me if large chunks of options or story were missing

It makes sense that the console version would be easier. There's no other way to compensate for the complete change (and limitations) in control scheme. I actually see myself picking up the console version later down the road when I want to enjoy a different origin story or two but feel like taking it easy on the tactical concentration side of things

I kinda figured that would happen. I mean, I can't even imagine playing a game like this on a console system....I mean BG I and II were both PC and I love that view and the strategy. Just couldn't imagine playing it any other way :)

I guess I'm going to have to buy this for the PC because I hate dumbed down versions of the game. Only problem is that my pc is a AMD 64x2 Dual Core 3800+ @1.99 gigahertz and I'm not sure I'm going be able to run this game pretty decent on it.

Yep, not unconfirmed.

On the console, with the greater focus on directly controlling one party member at a time and the faster paced combat, there is no friendly fire on normal or easy difficulty (and I still find it easy to avoid damaging my own party members on the higher difficulty settings).

That doesnt make it overall easier on consoles. It was ****ed up and broken as a strait port so it needed to be fixed, none of that actually proves its any easier.

That quote from the Lead QA does.
