Do not be fearful. We come in peace to bring to you many great advances to your otherwise drab - violent - oppressive culture.
Signed,
That Gay Guy
I kind of resent the idea that being heterosexual automatically means that "my" culture is drab, violent and oppressive.
Can't we all just... Get along?
Gay peeps want to get along, we dont want fights or wars, just the chance of being treated equally, no special stuff, to not be looked upon as a dirty disgrace. We dont want a fight, but to our great disappointment, quite a bit fromt he Hetero culture is determined to fight us (kinda reminds me of the Shepard paragon speech at the last rannoch mission) To use generalisations is unfair and i seldom do so, but its a sour fact that several hetero cultures are violent and oppressive to woman and gays, to the point of persecution, capture, torture and execution for being what we are.
Yet this does not have to be the case. With the exception of the problems we're facing in Brussels (i.e.: gaybashing), I do believe that some cultures (like "my" culture, if I'm even entitled to describe it as my own) are doing quite well. Sure, there are problems. But we're working on it. A lot of people are actively trying to make the world a more welcoming, more accepting place. The inclusion of same sex romances in a bioware game is a nice example of that.
I agree with you that there are some instances in which sexism, hate speech, etc. are still openly visible in our society, as is xenophobia, etc. It takes an active approach (namely sensibilisation, education, active debate etc.) to counter this, as much as possible. But generalisations on both sides can only harm this cause, as they counter-act sensibilisation. So what I'm trying to say is this: I don't agree with the OP. But I don't think his opinions should be taken as the "standard heterosexual opinion" either. I most certainly do not want people to think that all heterosexuals agree with the OP.
