So I'm getting this message when I try to join or create a multiplayer match: "An Xbox LIVE privilege limitation prevents you from accessing this feature". I checked all possible settings on my account to make sure that nothing relevant was disabled but nothing I found corrected the issue. Anyone else get this and know how to solve it?

Is the birthdate on the EA account above age? I know that if it's not it'll stop you from playing. The only other thing I can think of is parental controls and the obvious need for a gold account.

I'm 26, so yes to the first question. I have parental controls disabled. You need a gold account for multiplayer?!

Of course. You're playing on Xbox Live after all. You always need a subscription. There's a reason why the game came with a 48 hour trial on the 360. The silvers play for free thing was only for the demo and I'm pretty sure even then it told you that you needed an XBL gold account in the full game when you switched to Multiplayer.

I didn't play the demo. Well, that's about the most f***ed up thing I've heard today!

This is the case for every game on XBL I'm aware of other than PSU and FFXI (both of which doesn't even really make use of XBL).

Ah, this thread answers my question, sorry to dredge it up from a month ago. Looks like I won't be trying multi player any time soon, pity! I don't play enough mp for other games to justify a subscription.

Check your dashboard for deals mate - its the only way I buy Gold now.

You often see 1 month for £1, 2 for £2 or 3 for £6.

At the risk of starting a PSN/XBL flame war, I'm going to point out that I think the cost of XBL gold is well justified, given the difference in history between XBL and PSN (functionality, downtime, and other issues).

Plus there are other things to use live for then just MP. I am constantly using it for Netflix or espn 360.  Amazon has 1 year sub cards for 38 bucks.  Almost 20 dollars off the normal price.

Which would be fine if the price was really for the security and function, rather than the mounds of useless fluff you probably already have access to.  Unfortunantly, that's what you're paying for.

I love Live multiplayer though, and people like me will keep paying unfortunantly to access it even though we know it's a rip-off.

another awesome reason to have a PS3 or PC instead of an xbox if your an online gamer, i have em all and pretty much dispise the xbox (amazed i havent sold the junk tbh), cant even watch my paid for netflix etc unless i pay again for a gold subscription, which is free obv on ps3/pc.

no MP game on the xbox is playable online unless you have gold subscription, same as using the SKY TV feature, Netflix or anything else that basically uses the net, the only thing free is the ability to download games/demos/films/music basically, thats it.

Microsoft likes to charge you for using the ethernet port on your console. I don't want to go all "PC gaming master race" on you, but... actually, that's a lie, I do.

It is.. for gold members (queue Austin Powers jokes...).    It's been that way since the 360 came out and a gold membership is the absolute best $40 I spend a year relative to the number of hours of enjoyment and entertainment I get out of it.  The key is to wait either for an official sale or buy the discounted memberships on ebay (got mine for $38 and had the code emailed to me a few hours later).

Access to updates, friends, messages, DLC and such are all free. Access to multiplayer and other functions are restricted to gold.

That's...super basics of Xbox.

What PC gamers don't realize is that they paid 3 times or more for their unstable gaming rig.

Xbox Live will be free to play July 1st, if you want to hold out for that long.

Well since my PC hasn't had any magic yellow or red lights of death, I would consider it more stable than any console.

Postings all over the internet "announcing" this on April 1st... the same day as Google's announcement regarding support for Google Maps on the Nintendo Entertainment System via dialup...   I suspect that some posters outside of the US don't realize that they shouldn't trust ANYTHING they see announced on April Fool's.
