The two most useless characters with no purpose in ME3 or ME2 yet for some reason shoehorned them into the game despite how one dimensional they are..... Hate to say that affirmative action caused them to create some racial diversity in the game, but it almost seems that way doesn't it?  Jacob wasn't as important to the main plot as Miranda was, he was just some Lieutenant she picked up and put him in charge of stuff, and how he attends every meeting when you bring a new companion on board and says unimportant things and some downright rude things, Im thinking.... why are you here? Why are you talking at all? Get the hell out of here. lol. And with James... he's just some muscle bound thug who throws in a stereotypical Latino term in there just to eccentuate his ethnic background.  He reminds me more of Al Pacino's Scarface interpretation than anything else.... okay, that's a bit far, but why was he there? How does he further the story or is important to the story at all?... I think he should of been removed and made way for someone else from ME2, like Jack, or Miranda

Well, Jacob is not that one-dimensional. They just haven't worked it out very good.

James is clearly the guy in the team which is supposed to differ from all your old friends and introduce new player better. I can understand why he is the team and I can see his character, but I would have still used his place for the return of a squadmate from ME2.

They decided that Shepard must always have a generic human male soldier.

Thus the 3 least liked characters in the series; Kaiden, Jacob, James.

If they can make them all different races and get race points, all the better.

They're not that bad. I started liking Jacob after playing Galaxy and talking to him throughout ME2. he's not as interesting as some of the others, but it's hard to top Wrex, or Garrus. Vega doesn't seem that bad. Wrong place wrong time left him on the ship, it's explained ingame. Again, he doesn't seem 2D so far.

Would I have preferred old faces? Of course, but those characters really aren't that bad once you get to know them. Just don't try and compare them to the big favourites that we've had around since day (i.e. more time to get to know).

I pretty much disagree with everything in the original post. And what is the 'point'? What the hell does that even mean? Can you give me an example, like what's the point of Thane?

@aimlessgun Thane's point was the fact he was a well rounded memorable character, and don't enter a discussion with an attitude, makes you look immature. Jacob was shoehorned into the story with no point except he was on the station. Vega was shoehorned into the story because... I don't even know why, they could of left him on the planet but they didn't, oh well

Well ultimately the point is to have a well-rounded squad so that whatever class Shepard chooses, there will always be the other classes to fill in the holes.

Vega is about as close to a Krogan soldier as a human can get. Vega is much more likable than Jacob ever was. Jacob seems to have been humanized in ME3, because in ME2 he came off like a jerk.

I like Vega. I think the dynamic he has with femshep is kind of cool. Same with Jacob in ME2, the brohug him and Shep shared was one of my favourite crew dialogues.

On the other hand, I never talked to Wrex at all in ME1 and didn't see the point of him as a character until ME2 so I guess everyone has different tastes.

Jacob.. I liked him in ME2. Not very much, but you know, I thought he was an okay guy. Then in ME3 I hated him. God, what a ****** he became. I feel bad for people who romanced him :c. I do like James, alot better than Jacob. He is pretty down to earth, and that is different from most people on the crew.

I like Jacob. I think he's a honest, honorable and courageous man who I'd be proud to have at my back in a fight. Unfortunately, he's utterly dull as a romantic interest. Hence his lack of a fanbase.

I haven't gotten far enough into ME3 to really form a concrete opinion about James yet. (I can't call him Vega; every time I see that name I think of a bishounen Spanish bullfighter...) So far, I think he feels very much like an "everyman" character; he's a good soldier, but he acts like he's a bit too intimidated by Shepard (or possibly his/her reputation) to be a true "equal" to Shepard in the way that Garrus, Liara or Ashley are. Then again, he's still new. He hasn't had the benefit of time that the others have had.

Vega is definitely more interesting/rounded than jacob.

His interaction not just with Shep but with the rest of the crew was very well done...Really got a kick out of him trying to oneup "scars".

I actually appreciated both characters. Normal people in a sea of crazy. Between Drell assassins and lesbian asari and murderous Salarian doctors, tank-bred Krogan and Krogan warlords, crazed experimental biotics with more tattoos than they have room for and genetically engineered cheerleaders, it's nice to have down to earth people who are just people.

Jacob and James are bros as far as I'm concerned.

Jacob and Kaiden are generic in terms of character, but combat wise they aren't generic soliders. They are biotics.

Vega certainly doesn't look "normal" to me. Maybe he was tank-bred too. Certainly looks like it.

James is pretty cool. He's Shepard before Eden Prime. And Shepard takes on the role of Anderson. Was good to beat his ass and give him some perspective on the galaxy along the way.

And he's there for 2 reasons. To ease in people who joined up as of ME3 and to show how Shepard has grown and matured in the past two games.

I liked EDI, unique. A Cerberus AI that goes rogue, develops a personality, and decides to help Shepard fight the Reapers; much more compelling than, someone who met Shepard on a space station and tagged along.... or someone who met Shepard while escaping Earth's destruction and tagged along.

Jacob and James Vega are both better than the 2 pieces of sh*** known as the VS . since its clear Bioware kept their ****** poor attitude towards shepard in 3

God forbid we get a regular soldier in our team.

I like Vega, he's great, got me the Carnage ability (awesome for a soldier who wants a nice tech-based Direct Damage power), has an interesting backstory, and also excellent voice acting.

That and his repartee with Cortez is pretty hilarious at times. :)

Jacob was probably the lamest ME squadmate behind only Thane who I found insanely cliche and trite.

I actually quite like Vega and he along with Garrus are my go-to squadmates.
