This is what bothers me... Fans, are capable of writing better endings than lead story writer? Who hire the guy responsible for what we got?!

Much better ending. I can see Shepard playing this part. The diplomatic battle hardened banter of a soldier that has been through hell for almost the last half decade; aggressively arguing the case to this final foe. Not laying down and saying, "...well if those are the choices you give me, I always like the color blue!"

This the ending I was looking for.

The whole galaxy united. My squadmates fighting side by side. Krogans and Turians, Quarians and Geth, all equal, all fighting for their survival. I'd see the the whole effort I put to the game series which is ca. 100 hours. I'd accept the that I would die in the Citadel. But at least I would die happy knowing that my actions counted. I would die as a hero, a legend the whole galaxy would remember.

Reading that ending just makes me sad. It could have been so much better.

Oh yeah, a nice touch to an 'insufficient war assets' ending would be a flash forward to the future and some civilisation discovering Liara's 'black box' detailing everything about the Reapers, who Shepherd was, etc. and it ending with them activating it and hearing Liara describe Shepherd however the player chose to be remembered. THAT would be a bittersweet ending rather than the plain bitter endings we got.

Sad thing, just sad.

I cried a lot staring at my monitor and reading the words. If BW didnt change anything, this will be my headcannon end.

With this ending, and a few other suggestions on this board, this game would have d*** near deserved a 10/10.

This ending gave me chills. I was very upset with BioWare's slapped together ending...

I really liked this one! Even if everybody dies, even if the sacrifice is supreme for this freedom, I want that chance!

Is so hard to understand it Bioware? You did it on all 3 games, why loose it on the last 5 minutes?

I like the ending, in fact when playing the game the first time I tried to take the fourth ending and not use the crucible by turning around. It didn't work much to my dismay. I still don't think the fleets should have enough strength to beat the Reapers head on though. Perhaps if you changed it so that instead of simply beating the reapers head on they conduct last ditch mass evacuation of Earth followed by escaping through the Mass Relay while someone/ship (Destiny Ascension?) destroys the Relay causing it to go supernova and taking out the bulk of the Reaper armies at the cost of Earth.

This would leave still a sizeable portion of the Reapers out there, but cut down their numbers enough to make it a fair fight against the remaining fleets leading to the fourth Mass Effect game, Mass Effect: Origins (fingers crossed).

Read my sig to see why we COULD beat the Reapers in a battle.

If you like this ending, please consider rewarding the artist in any way you can.

On his profile (
http://arkis.deviantart.com/ ) there is a "Give" button on the top right. Please consider buying him some DeviantArt Premium membership time, or perhaps a badge (very cheap) or brushes.

This kind of work MUST be rewarded. It has singlehandedly reignited my love and passion for this game.

This fourth option has many holes in it based on previously established lore.

In the first game Sovreign states "We are legion. The time of our return is coming. Our numbers will darken the sky of every world." We could take this as Sovreign being arrogant. However this statement appears to be backed up by the last scene of ME2, where we see only a margin of the reaper fleet in intergalactic space, showing hundreds if not thousand of reapers. And this view was only a partial view of the fleet.

Also, if you go around and read descriptions of the planets in ME3 you will see it mentioned how there are numerous ships in each of the systems.

Now how could even the combined forces of all the species hope to defeat a, most likely, equal if not greater force of massively technologically superior ships. Even though they are spread out it could be assumed that since they are all connected the other Reapers would rally to the Sol system when it is realized that the small Reaper force at Earth is outnumbered and join the fight. Also keep in mind that the galaxies army is very lacking in dreadnoughts as pointed out in the treaty of Farixen, so the majority of that fleet would be made up of mostly smaller ships which would barely scathe reaper capital ships.Even in ME3 it is continually mentioned how the combined might of the galaxy could not overcome the reaper threat, otherwise why invest such a massive amount of resources in the crucible.

Therefore, established lore already greatly contradicts this alternate ending. There are way too many lore discrepancies. Also the endings we already have cannot be said to have "plot holes", as it gives hints as to what and why the reapers and cycle happen, leaving much to be inferred by the player. So the supposed "plot holes" are mostly the inference of players.

Everything the OP said is spot on.  This is exactly what I thought the TIM said he found a way to control the Reaper signal.  Why not scramble it?  The machines would be dazed, confused.  They wouldn't be able to mobilze or even fire off their weapons properly.  I figured that was how the war would be won...until i got to the end and well, you know.  Loved the dailogue there, OP.  Good stuff.

+ finally makes war assets count
+ gives Shep motivating speech (first opportunity was taken from him by Hackett)
+ gives reapers win (low war assets), and reapers loose (high war assets) endings
+ emotional, not stupid

- makes reaper motivations quite silly (but not sillier than in present version of course)
I could totally like this ending.

Thank you! Seriously, why wasn't this option in the game to start with? Sheppard is known for doing the impossible: See ME1, ME2, and the first 30 hours of ME3. WHY when it matters most would he turn into a mindless drone and just do whatever the controller of the reapers (AKA THE GUY YOU'RE TRYING TO KILL) tell him to do?
