Thats the question. Can future Mass Effect games still work with no mass relays left in the milky way?

The idea of 'mass effect' has always made this trilogy unique from other science fiction. These mysterious relays allowing humanity to visit other garden worlds and races was definately unique. It was also an interesting approach to answering the question of whether man could ever achieve faster than light-speed travel and reach other stars.

So i found it very odd that Bioware decided to blow up all the mass relays in the ending. They didnt even explain all the questions about them that came from the first ME. Such as who created them? How do they work? What is their purpose? How many more are there and in what other galaxies?

Seeing as no race knows how to build them, that would mean future mass effect games set after the ending couldnt have mass relays. Mass effect with no mass effect! Perhaps future ME games can only exist before shepards story?

No it can't. BioWare obviously did their best to burn the bridges with this ending, and I expect ME to go the way of Metroid; no games will be set after ME3's ending.

you answered your question, but it doesnt matter. We know how this movie ends so why bother ?

It does make you wonder what they have "planned" for the future of the ME franchise. Well post-ME3 events.

well.. protheans reached the stage of being capable of builidng one with just a bunch of people... There's a lot of scientist and such with the galactic fleet on Sol system... It will take years but it's possible to rebuild the network.

maybe there's no more games with timelines after ME3... or they will reboot the series just to make more money.

Mass Effect 3 reminded me of the new X-Men movies. They were starting off good, then went off on the deep end and messed it all up in the last hour or so (killing off Cyclops and Xavier). Maybe the new Mass Effect will go back in time to when Shepard was a kid, and they'll rebuild the series from the ground up.

I guess BW has somesort of plan since it isn't like them to just end it, the reapers nor the relays was blown up to dust, I think. soooooo. yeah I hope the come up with at least one more game, were the ending is shepard and is crew at some luxulary beach or whatever. in ME2 shepard died in the start. the could have had that vid in the end of ME1 and people would have been angry as hell. the choise to put it in me2 start instead, so if this is something similar, just at the end and not beginning????? I think I know about a zillion people that would be so happy they would die if ME4 or a dlc comes with a good explanaison!

I don't want some prequel. I want a game about rebuilding galactic community a couple hundred years into the future when someone managed to figure out how to make new gates. The Protheans did it, why not us?

And you'll buy them knowing that at the end it would be all for nothing?

Yes, it could work. The races could build new relays. It would just take a few decades, minimum.

That's a best case scenario. And ignoring all the trouble they'll have in the meantime.

Since Shepards story is basically done. I'd like to see a game based on the First Contact War.

Yeah, I've been thinking about that too...
Make the next Mass Effect game's story about the races trying to build new Mass Relays...
I think things in the Sol system would get pretty heated; all those different races stuck in the same system together with all that history of bad blood between them...I think that would make a really interesting story.
I mean, how angry would all those Krogan be if they couldn't get back to Tuchanka? Stuck on Earth with the Turians and Salarians? Krogan Rebellions 2...!?

Prequels wouldn't even work. Anything with humans in would just be the First Contact War. 1) we know how that turned out and 2) I don't think anyone would be comfortable with Turians as the Big Bad when we know the Reapers are coming and that Garrus Vakarian is the coolest guy on the Citadel.
