My Shepard visited him after every mission, picked mostly paragon options when speaking to him, but were still friend-zoned. I never even got a chance to express anything other than friendship.

Has this got to do with the fact that he had a romance with Jack in ME2 (which he broke up in ME3) and therefor was somehow considered "straight"? And I also didn't buy him the wine, has that got something to do with it?

I need to know for sure, because I'm considered doing a new mshep entirely, just for Kaidan, so it would help to know what exactly I need to do in order to trigger the romance.

Maybe the whisky really is important...

(I only got the "Are you flirting with me, Commander?" line in the hospital *after* I gave him the whisky, and when didn't give it to him by accident that line never appeared)

I don't think prior relationships have anything to do with it, in terms of preventing a romance.

I did a mix of paragon and renegade, slightly more paragon though.
I visited him 3 times in the hospital.
Never gave him wine (didn't know you could).
Didn't have any previous romances.

I'm guessing the previous romance thing may factor.
The dialog in the Kaidan romance implies somewhat that Shepard may not have had previous relationships in ME1/ME2.

And/or there's some glitch involved.

I can try on my new run that present thing with Kaidan.

I don't think Shep's earlier romances would matter as Kaidan only talks about himself not interesting in with anyone while my Shep settles for banging him (at least I get that impression from his reply) always make me thing my Shepard is closeted Hetero. >.<

That's weird.

Perhaps you need to break it off with the ME2 LI *before* you do the Kaidan dinner scene?

I know some Tali romancers who got Kaidan hitting on their Shepard.
Maybe you need to do the cafe conversation before you speak to your ME2 LI.

And if not that, and you did all of the paragon options, I don't know what else there could be other than a glitch.

Would be nice for a dev to clarify.

Actually, I also remember heraing about completely single Shepards who got friendzoned by Kaidan as well - even when choosing all paragon options.

If that is accurate, then glitches seemed to be the only thing left. Or something obscure.

Kaidan needs his booze if you want to tap that.

And it's whiskey btw. It's in the hospital shop for a short time while he's in there.

My friend and I figured it out when her thanemancer got hit on by Kaidan and mine didn't. We did a lot of similar things except for the whiskey thing, which when I saw it in the shop I had no flipping idea what it was for and left it there. She bought it being one of those players that buys everything and when the option came up to give it to Kaidan, she did.

It's got to be, that's all my friend and I did differently. We didn't romance him the first game, we turned him down at the same point. The part where he starts talking about sparks, you have Shepard tell him she's just getting to know him for battle reasons.

We both romanced Thane in ME2, and we did all the paragon options and was nice to Kaidan for ME3. Yet he friendzones my Shepard and not hers. I missed the whiskey and she didn't.

This is gonna sound weird and a bit off-topic, but is Kaidan the only squaddie you can possibly start a new romance with in Mass Effect 3? And it's a gay relationship?

If so, that's incredibly ballsy of Bioware, and I dig it.

You can start a new romance with Ashley (opposite sex only), Kaidan, and Liara.

No. You've got the chance to start new with Ashley and Liara, then Cortez, Diana are completely new. The rumor is going around Kelly too.

Kaidan's the only new relationship that can be started for a straight femshep. The rest are chicks and Garrus is only a romance if you import. Jacob and Thane are no longer romances.
