Seriously, Shep deserves it.

But, my biggest complaint was the lack of variety in the endings. Three games to make so many different choices, and all of the outcomes are the same? You would think there are enough bitter pills to swallow and sacrifices made in ME3 alone to warrant this'bitter' conclusion they were after. I think Shepard deserves a peaceful ending, retirement, whatever, on Earth with friends/li's whoever.

I don't need anything after that. I just need to see they're ok....together.

Make the assets matter in the final mission, then the ending will change out of logical necessity and continuity.
Shepard should logically die, a lot of other things should die, but the galaxy shouldn't just suddenly end on that note and credits roll.

HOWEVER, with the ending as it is now, I'm shocked. Not only at how little sense it makes, and not only that there is absolutely no closure for anything, but that it seemingly makes any and all LI's pointless. There's no conclusion with your LI either...sure you can have a final (and very emotional, again, truly good job on that Bioware) chat with your LI, but I saw that as more of a "just in case/good luck" and not a definitive good bye. And the more I got to thinking about it...why isn't a happy ending with your LI an option? Isn't that the ultimate goal for us paramours ever since ME1? I'd like to beat the Reapers and have little blue Shepards with Liara. Whoever your romance was should have a conclusive sendoff - hopefully in a positive way. And by the looks of this thread and others like it, I'm definitely not alone.

This is not what will fix the ending, as the assets will still not matter and you will have wasted a large amount of hours regardless.

There no reason to have Sheperd die in all the endings. Saying "the hero has to" anything is not what mass effect it about. Its about forging your own destiny. Quoteing my self again but its about "your" story not "a" story.

No, the romances are just background story. I want to finish the fight with the Reapers, I want an actual battle, I want my war assets to mean something, I want the opportunity if I'm good enough to save the galaxy. The ME series is about saving the galaxy from the Reapers, not holding hands and making babies, that should be left up to players imaginations. The ending should focus on ending the war, who lives, who dies and the state of the galaxy. Not super happy hand holding fun times in fairy land.
The romances are not just backround storys, they are if you dont have one. But your LI is the one who believes in you, and will fight with you no matter what. And to most people thier LI is a big part of thier story, Liara was big if not the biggest part of my story.

To not allow an ending where that romance is resolved, to not give the option for the "happily ever after" but rather "Shepard's dead, tee hee hee, we're all angsty and arty, isn't it bittersweet?"...my God, they just screwed over every one of their gamers who invested in the romance aspect, and I suspect that is a lot of their female fans, too.
They must not have gamer wives, daughters or girlfriends to go home to if they thought that was a good idea. Stupid, stupid, stupid writing.
