ROFL! This war was supposed to be impossible. Eons of life has been eradicated by the Reapers and Shep is just supposed to dominate them and dry hump his love interest at the end? I'll stick to the current ending.
War is all about sacrifice. The fact that you guys think that this is even an option is mind blowing.
It wasn't the ending that bothered me. It was the fact that your decisions throughout ME1 and ME2 didn't make a real impact on the games endings. All that mattered were your War Assets. And you can get near infinite War Assets playing multiplayer.
Way to miss the point bro...
In the end, the desire for your Shep to survive, and for his/her Significant Other to survive should have been counter balanced with a sacrifice.
IE. Are you willing to sacrifice another member of your team for them, Ala Virmire. Though, seeing as how this is supposed to be a near unwinnable war, the stakes would need to be higher, like I stated in my above post.
Would sacrifice the rest of your team for them?
What about an entire refugee camp?
A fully manned dreadnaught or liveship?
The outcome of these could have been influenced by the EMS as well as other factors.
Chose your LI over a Quarian Liveship? Okay, did you unite the Geth and Quarians? And is your EMS>3000? If both these conditions are met then maybe the Geth swoop in to Evac the survivors from the ship, if not, then all the Quarians on that ship die.
These are the types of choices and consequences we SHOULD have gotten from the ending. Not multi-colored space magic.
