Just starting a new playthrough with a tank PC.  From reading on the boards most people seem to build their tanks as high Con chars who can absorb loads of damage.  I"ve been wondering tho, has anyone had any success building a tank that tries to avoid as much damage as possible?

Stat allocation:
Str: 42 for massive armor
Dex: All remaining points in here
Will, Con, Cun: Base

Basic premise:  Pump dex for max Def. value to try and hopefully make a tank nigh unhittable.  Since I don't think there's anything out there that can really 1 hit KO (aside from dragons) base Con should be enough to survive on (just need healing earlier).  Having a high Dex value should also reduce the incoming damage since you (should) be avoiding a lot more hits.

Any thoughts?

I imagine this is the most effective build if you've got a healer - Wynne will be restoring a significantly higher % of your health per cast, which is nice. I can't honestly tell you how effective it is though. Its not far from the build I've got going for Alistair at the moment, and that's working nicely for me.

My 2h Warrior had on lvl 22 about 500 HP. But bc i played on Nightmare this didnt help much,

they just chunk them away like nothing.

Avoiding damage seems to be "more intelligent"

This. Best tank you can come up with without abusing magic IMO. I'm using two of these (+dog and Leliana archer) in a no-mage party and I can take over revenants using only a moderate amount of potions, they miss us a lot, as do most enemies. (this is at lvl 14 btw)

The worst part is, I'm fairly confident they still do more damage than 2h warriors with their sluggish animation and ridiculous miss rate, consistently hitting for 40-50 damage per (non-crit) hit. ^_^

Besides, it makes it easy to switch everyone to archery should the situation call for it (arcane horror in the Brecilian ruins ? slaughtered in seconds from a distance, only had time to cast one fireball.)
