So, I finished the game today, chose an ending and was content with it. But then, after the credits, there is that vid with the Stargazer and the child, and I asked myself...WTF? What sense does it make for me to choose an ending where only Citadel+Mass Relays are lost when we end up like that, unable of spaceflight going by what they're saying.

Then after a while, I figured, hey, he said that it was so long ago. So not having developed technology for spaceflight til then would be ridiculous if it was such a long time ago. So I came up with the idea that maybe, those were not normal humans. Maybe, those people are from the next cycle, 50000 years later, living on a planet which was once inhabitated by some species and later abandoned. They know "the Shepard" existed, but they don't know the details, so he is their "Protheans" if you will.

Basically, what I'm getting at is, did the ending we chose matter? Does it influence the cycle, which is to be shown in the Epilogue, or did Bioware really just didn't think about it and strip humanity of ALL technological progress from the past 50 years? This kinda ruined the ending for me, actually, so maybe somebody has a theory? :o
