I have her on cause I enjoy being told how awesome I am on occassion, when she offered me to fill her tank up with my special fuel, I told her to go to another station.

I agree that there's no reason why video game females have to be attractive. I think it's clear though that they intended for Diana Allers to be attractive, but they failed. That's what the problem is.

Character design there was lazy too... they thought, Chobot's face, they don't have to focus on her overall look.  The character artist wonder if he got intentionally lazy with it, or decided not to take a second look over it when submitting. And now with it being rigged and animated in game already, rendering out those cutscenes now so Allers doesn't look like so much ass, is more hassle than it's worth, they're on IGN's good side, Chobot hasn't said anything against it... so, who cares, leave the troll model in.

I think it's a combination of the model and the voice, to be honest. She's just kinda creepy looking, and then as soon as her mouth opens this horrible, horrible drawl comes out of it. Maybe it's because ME3 seems to be really low volume or maybe it's something else, but I have no idea what she's saying half of the time.

This is one of the two ME characters that everyone seems to hate and I can't understand why. Not that I love them, but why the hate? The other one is Anderson.

She is more annoying than ugly. She is completely unremarkable and the way she throws herself into Shepard (regardless of Shepard's gender, by the way) is vulgar. I don't dislike Chobot personally, but putting her in the Mass Effect universe was not a good idea.

I think Anderson is one of the more popular non-companion characters overall. Those that don't like him are just very vocal about it.

 

Allers on the other hand...I think the fanbase is near unanimous in 'do not like.' The hate I think is because she manages to check several boxes that annoy fans. It is almost the perfect storm. She is seen a symptom of an inappropriate relationship between gaming journalists and the companies they cover, and on top of that she's got terrible voice acting, a bad character model, is not well written, and seems to serve no function in the game other than being an IGN plug and a blatant (and epically failed) attempt at nerd bait by casting someone more well known for being attractive and licking a PSP seductively, than for any voice acting skills. To that mix also add the dud that was Tali's reveal, which immediately drew comparisons to the resources spent modeling Allers, and disappointment over the embedded reporter not being a fan favorite like Emily Wong or even Khalisha al-Jilani.
