The best scene Bioware's done in a videogame the past 5 years was in Dragon Age: Origins, where every single one of your party members is on screen, fighting to take back the outer gates of Denerim.

Why? Because the scene was a clear depiction of all the hard work you had put forth in stoping the blight.

Every choice you had made, every consequence you endured, every dire situation you've overcome was shown in a desperate dogfight including every party member you've gathered along the way. The actual battle itself wasn't important--heck, HP settings were purposely turned down in the battle. The beauty of this scripted combat section was in the magnitude of every choice you've made to accomplish your goals, showing itself off in grandiose fashion.

You might look at the scene at first and think, "What? This is entirely negligible. Why the heck is Bioware wasting its resources on a section you can't possibly lose, where no real story progression is occurring?" But the point of this scripted combat scene, as Dragon Age: Origins so wonderfully figured out, was in showing your personal journey come to fruition. If you killed Leliana, Wynne, or any of your other party members, they weren't fighting alongside you during this combat session. Some players had 10 members fighting with them. Others had only Alistair and their trusty dog.

It's a section like this that is sorely missing in Mass Effect 3, and in my opinion reflects a problem with the game that supercedes even the controversial ending. There is no scene in Mass Effect that reflects YOUR personal journey, YOUR personal struggle to unite the races and defeat the Reapers, and the glorious outcome of the choices you've made to end such struggles.

I'm not saying Mass Effect 3 needs a carbon copy of Dragon Age: Origins battle. I'm simply saying it needs more scenes that reflect just how much your personal choices are affecting this war. And scripted combat scenes of Earth would've been the perfect way to do that.

Show me a scene of the Quarian flotilla, breaking through a difficult Reaper line, only to be flanked by another Reaper...whose fire was successfully intercepted by the Geth fleet. Show me a scene of Garrus & Wrex, respective races now brothers in arms, smiling to each other before charging into a battlefield swarming with brutes. Show me a scene of Aria's Blue Suns, spearheaded by Vido Santiago, getting saved from a Harvester due to a well placed inferno grenade from Zaeed.

These things may seem insignificant, and ultimately don't impact the story in any way, but scenes like this are SO important in relaying the personal journey each player has gone through. With the incredible amount of variables Mass Effect 3 presented, I can understand the hesitation. But even a seemingly insignificant scene, like a quick, 5 second shot of Miranda & Ashley putting aside their differences to fight back to back against swarms of husks, can really help establish a individual player's personal experience.

I ask you, Bioware. Please don't underestimate scenes like that again. It doesn't matter how you do it-- just show us our payoff of our choices we've made during these personal journeys.
