I got caught
stealing in Nashkel (first time in the game). The only dialog option was “die
pond scum!” probably because I did not have enough money to bribe the soldiers.
But I did not loose any reputation. How come?

Nashkel is under a different jurisdiction (Amn) than Baldur's Gate and its Flaming Fist, and they are at odds at the time of the game. So Flaming Fist doesn't care, and breaking Amnish laws does not cost you reputation. Unless you actually kill innocents, if I recall.
