Assume for a moment that the ending was a mistake.

Everyone makes mistakes, how you respond to them is what matters.

Calling for anyone to be fired is going way overboard, as is comparing Mac to Drew.

How wrote and designed Tuchanka? Tuchanka was amazing.

That's actually a good question.

He just shouldn't have the lead role. He's clearly not up to the task. Too bad Drew left.

I in no way mean any offense to his person but after what he pulled It would really be better if he were no longer writing for bioware.

If someone is not good at their job you fire him and wish him luck with his or her future

no op you have no idea what your talking about

This is out of line, because you do not know exactly what parts he was responsible for.
Did he do all the good parts tooo...tali straw, garrus bottles...mordin death..what dialogue, etc?

Producers, editors, animators, etc all play into the final video game product. Maybe the animators screwed up what he wanted as an ending and he would never lay blame, because that would be unprofessional. Maybe the company cut off the budget for myultoiple more satisfying endings...who knows?

No one should be fired for this.

Bad ideas happen all the time ... even really good writers have them. It's part of the profession.

But ... someone at BioWare above Walters should've looked at this proposed mess of an ending and said, "are you joking!?"

That's what should've happened.

Way to make us look good there. Top notch.

It's also hilarious considering the no personal attacks policy they adopted a few weeks ago.

There are better, diplomatic ways.

If anything, the responsability should lie with the people who ultimately approved it.

As much as I didn't like the endings, I think this is a bit harsh. Most likely Walters did not have final say anyways so someone(s) much higher up approved this. All the blame isn't on him.

I'd also like the mention that the rest of the game as far as writing goes was near perfect. It might actually be my favorite in the whole trilogy in that context. So no, please don't fire the guy. He definitely did something right.

I just don't understand how 95% of the game could be so eloquently written and weaved together, and then he writes the ending that completely dishevels half of the lore and previous events.

How do you go so wrong, so quickly Mac?

agreed!

fans always believe drew was the only good writter on the franchise when they fail to realize that drew was only a lead writter meaning there was a team

To have his job taken away is what "fired" means.

ok, but anyway, i'll use burn, its more suitable

No. He's shown himself as being more than capable on numerous other occasions. I want him to redeem his mistake. He took a risk and failed. Now let him make it right. We've seen what he and his team can do when they get it right, give him the chance.

Agreed. I absolutly loved the first 98% of the game. Almost everything was how I had imagined it going in, and everything else worked great too. He made a mistake at the end. Let him redeem himself and try to give the game the ending it deserved.

Yes, he made a mistake as lead writer but to fire him over would be nuts. I really did not like the end of the game but the rest of the game was great. My opinion is give him a chance to see what people did not like about it and make the correction and release an update/patch/dlc that gives us a better ending.

inb4 lock down, actually that wouldn't be a bad thing because has anyone actually seen a mod post here in the past week? This guy will get banned but maybe they will surface and we can FINALLY get some answers.

Fire? No. But he shouldn't be lead writer any more.

Actually, scratch that. I don't really care either way, I won't be purchasing future BW games anyway.

Agreed

This is the wrong approach. Asking for blood (figuratively speaking) is not the way to resolve this. Be civil people.

It's no fair to Walters to want his job terminated as the lead writer. Everything else in the game was amazing. The endings were the only stain. Give him the chance to explain and/or own up to what's happened.

woah this is not a personal attack. The statement I made was in regards to the way he ended the series which was bad he should not have continous ability to make mistakes like this.
My intention was not to be inflamatory and as a result I will change the thread title and let the thread die.

We need Drew back, but we shouldn't fire Mac. I've met Mac before, and he is a great guy that really cares about Mass Effect.

No. Just don't do threads like this. What do they do that's good? It just makes the devs resent us.

Please, don't make any more threads like this. Focus on asking for ending DLC.

While I don't necessarily agree with the OP. Mac Walters was confirmed as the writer of the ending.

He made an amazing story for 99% of the game. The 1% just happened to be, in my opinion, the most important part of the story, so it sticks out. I would play another game story written by him as long as he makes a good ending for it.

Yu-huh. Cause calling for someone to be fired is a great idea and will undoubtedly turn out oh so well.
