Drew left because he lost "Creative Control" Right?

Who freakin took it away from him and why?

Drew left ME for SWTOR.  And the person who has always had the final word on ME is Casey Hudson.

Let's try to be fair here. Unless the Catalyst portion and/or the Normandy stranding were the only parts of the game he wrote, he also contributed to the epic awesomeness of the first 95% of the game.

I agree. Storywise, ME 3 was the best of the series... until the end.

I agree with all this as well

First off i can't even believe Drew would step away from Mass Effect. If i was an author and i wrote a trilogy, why would i allow other people to write the last book for me?

No, he quit because he wanted more time to work on his own fictional universe. Writing for video games and Star Wars novels is all well and good, but he wanted to delve deeper into a world of his own creation.

Also, pertaining to the OP, Mac Walters probably won't be lead anymore...Because ME is done. There won't be a ME4. There may be some form of continuation of the universe as a whole, but there is no real guarantee of that. Hell, even if they do, it might not be as a main game. Or even as a RPG. Perhaps the ME3 multiplayer was the set up for a squad-based shooter as the next game. Or perhaps a stealth-based Spectre game.

Enough of this please. Being disappointed in the quality of somebody's work is one thing. Calling for them to lose their job is another.

Don't turn this into Mike Laidlaw 2.0 please.

Let's see how this plays out before we call to fire anyone. If what I hear is right and he wrote/designed Tuchanka.... come on that was epic.

How he responds is what will decide this.... or how he's allowed to?

95% of the game was great, even most of the ending was great.... it's the last 10-15 minutes that was inexcusable.

Should prob. just let this thread die.

I know he changed the title, but it still looks bad.

Doesn't have to get personal.

Yeah after that ending he shouldn't be a lead writer for a cereal commercial.

He did fine in other parts of the game, but he should never EVER write another ending to an otherwise great series.

1. would you Boycott Bioware if they don't fix the endings

Yes.

2. do you believe Multiplayer should have no impact on the single player campaign

Yes and they told us that it shouldn't. Which is a blatant lie. After only a few games of MP, my war assets shot skyhigh and I had done and collected all of them in SP and barely got over 4k EMS.. So much for "You can achieve perfect ending without touching MP."

3. Facebook Campaign demand better endings for ME3

There are some 14k people clamoring for better ending to the series.

Don't see a reason why Bioware should get rid of Mac Walters. Yes, the endings are bad and yes, he was the lead on this project in terms of writing, but when you consider the endings make about 1% of the whole script (important 1%, but still) then there's still the 95%* of the game that is well written, not only because the writers did their job but also because the lead did his job. And it's not like he's the only person on the team that has any say on the script, so singling him out seems unfair.

* I'm leaving the remaining 4% for the less-than-stellar stuff that happens in every game with that amount of text. I'm looking at you, admiral Pep Talk Hackett...

As much as I'd have preferred Drew, he's not perfect. Just look at his Revan novel.

Also, this is the collective effort of an entire staff. Someone higher up approved this.

/agreed

And as addition, Mac Walters was involved in the rest of the game to and ME3 is truly good game. The lack of true conclusion torn me apart - but that doesn't mean I didn't appreciate as player all beauty they gave us before that horrible mistake of not actually finishing ME3 properly.

Eh..at this point I hold no ill will to the writing staff, they took a risk, a stupid risk, and ruined the game for many. But..they may still fix it for all of us. Until the fixes are officially denied, I will remain a fan of the whole ME team.

Removing Walters is only treating the symptom, you have to get rid of Hudson and the rest of the higher ups to cure the disease.

Fire? Isn't that just a wee bit drastic, you are suggesting taking someones livelihood away. Also while I didn't like the ending in any way, shape or form I would never request the sacking of someone.

Personal attacks against the staff at Bioware is prohibited, perhaps you didn't see the huge banner at the top of each and every page. Go have a look now, i'll wait.
That said, i'm going to have to lock this thread. Bah mis-placed my keys!

Calling for people to be fired won't really help the cause. 99% of the game is great, the end just needs some polish......ok lots of polish.

Well, we all learn and grow from our mistakes and experiences. I won't go as far as being that harsh towards Mac Walters.

I think there's no need for a pillory. We should criticize the issues of the game (endings), not persons whose amount we cannot know.

If we actually see anything is wrong with what we do... that's the real trick.

I think the writing in most of the game was REALLY good. I have spoken with other writers in the past and sometimes they have had endings dictated to them ... all they were responsible for was fleshing things out but they didn't always have the creative control to write what they thought was best.

If someone else basically dictated this ending I think the writers did as good as they could with it.

For me [maybe not others] the whole "space magic" and "god child" thing ruined it for me and I don't believe that there is really anything a writer could do to sell that to me if they were constrained.

YMMV.

The first 95% were only "good" because of the work in ME1 and ME2 setting up the good fight. Genophage, Geth/Quar etc were established in ME1 and ME2.  The other parts sucked imho.

What ME3 did was to dilute the entire series. Even my dead Rachni queen was alive, rofl (ok ok, some clone whatever). Lets not forget about the auuuuuuuto dialogue aswell, or the kid, or the lack of buildup in the beginning etc. There are very many parts of this game that were miserable in my opinion.

Also, nobody can call the cruicible story-line "awesome".
