I hate to sound selfish, but I REALLY DO, watching my team work together to go about sabotage, lowering shield and setting up wave only to watch a vanguard go in and spam charge and nova and basically get credit for every kill even thou we were the one doing all the work for him to get even close... it has made me HATE THEM.
I know it a team effort but what the point If the guy I am playing with is going to take credit FOR EVERYTHING and get some kind of ego that he the best cause he topped the score bored by spamming the same two moves over and over...
Sorry to all the vanguard that don't do this but ya, I've had my fill.
The points are given the same to the whole team, regardless of who has more kills or gold stars in the end. There is no "top score" co-op. I really don't mind my friends playing Vanguard doing it. They are all also very helpfull with mission objectives, res'ing fallen squad members and they suffer a lot on higher leagues.
But Vanguards also suffer from one awful bug since the demo, so I rather having them alive and kicking than bugged and not able to help the team at all:

In the demo I joined a room as a level 1 Vanguard and got 2 instant kick flags. Then some guy from the room goes so far as to message me and say in a voice message "Yo dude my friend wanted me to tell you to get the :expletive: out." Not even owning up to it or explaining why he didn't want to play with me. They weren't that much higher level than me. Level 5 or 6s. Needless to say I added them as avoided players.
I figured it was just a one time thing. So once the game is out I manage to unlock a Drell Vanguard and I figured I'd try him out. I join a room of all level 1s while I am level 5 from getting the card in a Spectre pack. AS SOON AS I ENTER, "You have been kicked from the game." I didn't say anything. They just saw I was playing as a Vanguard Drell and BOOM Kicked.
When I did get in a room that accepted me I only use my charge to regen my barrier and stick to mostly defending an area and getting foes out of cover with pull or finishing them off with my SMG/Carnifex. Do people give me a shot to prove myself a team player? Nope. They just assume since I am a Vanguard I am going to Rambo it up and be in need of thousands of revives. I decided to stop playing the class until I get an Asari and see if that makes a difference.
I can understand the notion of "kill stealing" even in a cooperative setting. I get annoyed when someone takes down the target I spent the last 5 seconds lining up in my scope as a Infiltrator, or when someone spoils my biotic combo with a gun shot. I understand that. But I think kicking a person just because of their class is petty and unfair. If you play a game with someone and they aren't being a team player, then you can call them out or kick them. Don't judge soley based on their class.

they go down alot, like ALOT. requiring people to go way further than they should have to in order to revive them. usually its not worth it to revive a vanguard, too risky.
ive NEVER, not ONCE, seen a vanguard help hack one of the 4 nodes, or stay in the upload area. and they are NEVER in the extraction zone.
they're not teamplayers, thats the problem. all the other classes can stick together and work great as a team, but the vanguard is always on the other side of the map getting himself killed and not helpign with objectives.
Well, thats just bad luck.
Not all vanguards are like that. Hell, most of the vanguards I've played with die less then the soliders and sentinals in my team. I agree it is kinda frustrating when they don't stay in the upload area, but then again, the more enemies they are distracting, the less likely your position will get overrun. Vanguards are also great for taking the heat off when you're being pinned down and I love how they charge at phantoms...
Personally I'd never play a vanguard (too much pressure, I'm more of a support fire kind of guy) but I respect the class for what they bring to the team. Play with a good Vanguard (maybe someone on BSN can offer to show how it's done?), you'll learn to love them.

What a bunch of idiots there.
People who kick other players just because of their class are obviously poor players themselves.

The problem is that everyone generalizes too much, they saw a lot of bad and selfish Vanguards, so every Vanguard player must be as well. And yet, when I use my Vanguard I constantly see Infiltrators sniping an enemy that was just perfect to charge, yet I don't complain. Because sniping enemies is the job of anyone who uses a Sniper Rifle. Just like the job of a Vanguard is to be a distraction, cover flanks and, sometimes, save their teammates from the brink of death.
Something you might want to know, I'm currently playing with the Asari Vanguard and nobody tried to kick me yet, not even Silver matches, didn't try Gold with her yet so I can't say anything about that. Also, while I certainly had my fair share of kicks, I did not get kicked frequently. Are you playing on xbox? (I don't say ps3 because I do not have one, and can't say anything about it's online community) Perhaps I did not get kicked as much because I play on PC?

My first priority are the objectives. Especially the high priority enemy target waves. I can zip in, kill the target and zip out quickly.
And, for the love of all things high and mighty...STOP MOANING ABOUT STOLEN KILLS! You all get the points. It's a co-op match.
I hope you guys get to play with a good, team oriented Vanguard so you will appreciate them more. They can get you far in Silver/Gold.
I play on PC, so maybe the crowd online is a bit more mature, but I haven't been kicked yet.

Some people play support roles, some play ranged damage, some play a mix... but this is all a Vanguard can do.
A Vanguard who stays with the team to kill things with them is a GOOD Vanguard.
So you didn't get kill spam. Your team did... everyone always says that a lot of Vanguards are being selfish, but this time it sounds like you are.

The problem is, co-op isn't for most Vanguards. 95% of the time the Vanguards are charging around the map leaving their team to rot. I can understand doing that in single player since your squad is mostly useless, but it's not the way to do cooperative play.
9 times out of 10 your squad is useless in MP too. Yea I play a vanguard... nearly every match I'm having to solo objectives because my team of crackhead infiltrators are hiding out in a building hoping to snipe something then getting flanked and killed forcing me to run away from the objective rez them because they already burned their medi-gels.
Vanguard is incredibly easy to play and more survivable than nearly anything else. Any vanguard dieing all over the place is just plain bad. Has nothing to do with the class.

Sounds like you've played with a lot of terrible Vanguards. It seems to be a lot like Hunters in World of Warcraft. Lots of people play them because they are easy to pick up, but difficult to master. They *can* be a huge asset to the group. I rarely ever die on my Human Vanguard unless I'm not paying attention where I am charging, which still happens from time to time (damn turrets!). Knowing when to use nova/charge is key obviously, because using them at the wrong time or in the wrong order often equals death when sh*t is getting haggard. It is definitely high risk, high reward.
Vanguards are second only to Infiltrators (in my opinion) in terms of being able to help with objectives and revive people. If Vanguards aren't helping with objectives when no one else is on them, they're just a bad player, so don't lump it on the Vanguard class as a whole. As for revives...teammate about to get curb stomped when they're down and no one else is nearby? Boom, charge, staggers the enemy, and revive. Also when playing with Adepts or other biotics, charge/nova can be used to detonate their stasis/warp/etc., which adds to that player's score, not the Vanguard's. It's all about coordination and paying attention. I promise, not all Vanguards are terribad.

I just witnessed this last night. Happens on Bronze all the time. You can tell people suck when they sit and snipe at enemies when there are hacking objectives with timers counting down. I just let them sit there and snipe while I hit the objetives. I actually had to tell two guys that they needed to actually kill the high priority targets. I don't think they realized the enemy kept spawning.

I don't act / play anything like the hatred of vanguards in this thread is like. I simply help out the team best I can. If anything I get more assists than kills every game. I Mainly use vanguard because thats what my main character in Single player since Mass Effect 1 is so I know how to use it best.
Again, Vanguards aren't the problem, players are. On hacking missions I've had plenty of idiots vanguards or not leave the hacking area or not be in the LZ at the end. Hacking missions are tougher for me as a vanguard because without charage I'm not all that useful in MP so sitting still and shooting isn't yhr best use of my skills...but I do it for the cash.

If you're playing Human Vanguard it's super useful to just sit behind cover during a hack and nova when enemies are close and your barrier is up. It will hit through the cover and can be quite useful for the rest of your group taking down the baddies.

Only time I don't rush for an objective is because I can hold a group with enough aggro so others keep safer.
It's sometimes better staying put drawing fire for the team.
If I get KO'd I don't complain or shout, most times it's because I got swarmed or flanked.
Not from a charge, just a wave.
Don't rush into a crowd, if you're an infiltrator feel free if spare.
However crowds + revival means in most case death again no matter the class.
Withdraw, clear then come back if possible.
Always adjust for the team and wave, better staying close sometimes.
For others it takes looser play and allows others their freedom.
In case someone I just had a disconnect on reads this I apologize if match went south.

My gripe with vanguards is you have a much greater chance of getting a selfish player than with other classes. They're the ones who usually aren't helping you hack faster by being in the circle or being in the zone at the end. Nope, instead they're just flying everywhere around the map.
While I don't play like that...keep in mind that Vanguards are distracting enemy while others can hack the objectives...

Yeah I am on the Xbox 360. I guess the community on the Xbox is a bit more unforgiving of bad Vanguard players. That spoils it for other people wanting to play as a Vanguard. I will see how playing an Asari Vanguard works for me once I manage to unlock her.

I can quite honestly say I've charged Banshees, Brutes, Geth Primes, and Atlases all to death. Just had a match where I had three Primes on me at once, killed 'em all with nothing more than Charge and Nova. As long as you're very quick on the Charge/Nova, and know that it takes them a second to reacquire you if you backroll away, you can do it all day long.Giantdeathrobot wrote...
Unless you play on Bronze, this just stops to work after waves 5-6, too many powerful enemies. Against Reapers, it ends as soon as Banshees enter the fray. Bonus points if a Brute is with it.
