I've *never* been kicked from a game on xbox live.

I play Vanguards more than anything else.

I also tend to get friend invites from people after they play with me, so I assume I am fairly team-friendly.

My gripe with vanguards is you have a much greater chance of getting a selfish player than with other classes. They're the ones who usually aren't helping you hack faster by being in the circle or being in the zone at the end. Nope, instead they're just flying everywhere around the map.

I think it is more than selfish players are more able to act on their stupid as Vanguards than other classes.

In the end, all that matters is 4 people get to the end. How that happens shouldn't matter to anyone.

Hey guys don't stress, in silver and more so gold these Vanguard spam Charge/Nova builds are not as effective - mainly because of the increased chance of death, so don't despair! :)

(Its still viable in silver to some degree, but less in gold ^_~)

i have to think there is a certain flare about the class that makes them a little more selfish than other classes. i have a friend that i have been playing coop with for years and she is always more of the passive support type character but as soon as she plays as the vanguard she becomes what we dubbed 'the karate kid' and it gets kind of annoying.

also, i agree its about getting 4 people on that ship and it shouldnt matter how its done, but there are much safer and stress free ways of doing it than taking that high risk high reward character along so i try to stay away from it. rarely have i seen a vanguard be the saving grace and often i find that risk they are often taking was the thing that takes down the entire team. personally, i would just rather play it safe. though i will admit if a talented vanguard came my way i would be open to having them change my mind.

Unless you play on Bronze, this just stops to work after waves 5-6, too many powerful enemies. Against Reapers, it ends as soon as Banshees enter the fray. Bonus points if a Brute is with it.

I can quite honestly say I've charged Banshees, Brutes, Geth Primes, and Atlases all to death.  Just had a match where I had three Primes on me at once, killed 'em all with nothing more than Charge and Nova.  As long as you're very quick on the Charge/Nova, and know that it takes them a second to reacquire you if you backroll away, you can do it all day long.

You have to spec it so they do extra damage against armor and you HAVE to take the charge/nova upgrades that regenerate shields.  But, yeah, i can handle brutes and banshees if I am careful.

Do you always host? With lag, I've been yanked out of a charge and into a death animation. It's safe to charge all the insta-melee gib mobs but they have to be in an animation. If they're in their walk/neutral pose have the option of instagibbing you and afaik you can't dodge out of it. I know the latter because I played a drellguard extensively in the beta and you can bet I was spamming dodge off the end of charge every single time for the damage reduction. Instagibs aside, my most common cause of death is charge not going off. Sometimes it just doesn't go. There's no cover, it's off cooldown, but you're sitting there hitting the key and it beeps rather than charging.

There was an earlier post about Asari/Drell vanguards being weaker and they are but only because grenades are severely limited when you're not in Bronze. I get killstreaks on a fairly regular basis with Stasis + Lift Grenade. I think I could do the same with Pull + Cluster but I haven't been able to unlock the Drell Vanguard and my Drell Adept is set up for Pull+Reave spam.

I hate the Drell's Reave ability mainly since its SO loud and can hear it clearly no matter where you are on the map. but I do agree with Vanguards being annoying as hell...

it is rare to find a Vanguard that DOESNT spam their abilities so all you hear is screaming and biotic explosions. often if I find more than 1 in the lobby... I quit and remake... and if there IS one ingame that is spamming all the time and dies... well... I know I aint risking my neck when he is in the thick of 20 enemies. sorry man but use medgel and run away.... or die in a place I can actually get to without dying myself... to get your careless **** back in the fight.

I'm all in for fighting with any class.... just dont be annoying and stupid with them...

the good thing is if you do most of the dmg to an enemy you will get most of the points for it. to help prevent the killing blow people to not get all the credit. but your team more often than not can kill guys effectively too you know?

I hate to sound selfish, but I REALLY DO, watching my team work together to go about sabotage, lowering shield and setting up wave only to watch a vanguard go in and spam charge and nova and basically get credit for every kill even thou we were the one doing all the work for him to get even close... it has made me HATE THEM.

I know it a team effort but what the point If the guy I am playing with is going to take credit FOR EVERYTHING and get some kind of ego that he the best cause he topped the score bored by spamming the same two moves over and over...

Sorry to all the vanguard that don't do this but ya, I've had my fill.

Hahahaha. Just have an upgraded Sabotage with explode. Sabotage the target he is going to charge next => your profit.

Just got out of a game with a Vanguard and found another reason I don't like them.

There were 2 of them and they went and started spamming like they do to some enemies....then the other guy and I got cornered both ways from behind.

The 2 vanguards died...of course and then we did. Sometimes vanguards can be counter-productive.

I tried out my asari vanguard because: Hey! She's got stasis and the killer melee, she can't be that worse than the asari adept( who rocks conpletelly by the way), turns out her only purpose is to attempt suicide and make the rest of the team try to revive me, die in the attempt and lose the mission. Seriously, I hate vanguards, and I understand if my teammates from that mission hate me too.

It's still super effective in silver and gold. Why would you think it changes? We are still god mode tanks and we still do huge amounts of damage.

The problem with most vanguards is they tend to try and solo. You usually have the team of three plus a vanguard running around somewhere going AAAAAAAA!(followed by their death). The class can be good in single player games but is not much a team player in multi-play.

Pretty much.

Don't get me wrong, I can understand why Vanguards are frustrating to other people, but...well, your inability to kill four Geth Pyros in five seconds is also frustrating to us.

I love playing with a good vanguard, they take the heat like no other class and act like my own personal decoy.

Of course, the mobility they have can cause envy at times. Having to hoof it across the map when the vanguard just teleports across is frustrating.

I kind of love them now. It means that the match will be finished that much faster, and I don't have to run like crazy when there's a brute or banshee nearby. At least on silver and bronze.

Don't worry about kill-stealing, we all get the same experience & credits at the end of a mission (like very rpg/mmo, the entire party gets the sam eexperience).. the leaderboards just show how much each person 'contributed' so it's all good

but ya, alot of newbie vanguards spam charge/nova on bronze.. at higher gold/silver, it takes teamwork... choose silver/gold matches for better players ...bronze is full of newbies with CoD mentality

I don't mind playing with vanguards that go "crazy" while close to the group.

If you get downed while on the other side of the map, i'm not gonna make an effort to go get you, Vanguard or not.

My only issue with vanguards is when they screw up my shots when I'm sniping. It's not a vanguard-specific issue, but they do seem to have more ways of doing it. Really though, bad teamwork can happen with any class; vans are just much more obvious targets.

I love my Vanguard in single player, but then I've only ever played one since ME1 and stuck to the class. But when I went to do multi-player I thought it probably wasn't the most appropriate class and besides, if I'm involved in actual team work it seems obvious it would be more fun to use more of a team player.

Not to mention I want to try out some other classes. If I play a vanguard I'll probably experiment with a non-human type that can't Nova anyway.

What is there to defend? Regardless of who gets the kills, everyone gets even XP points and credits at the end of the game. Harping about kill steals are asinine.

it's can be nice to have them on the team if they are being team players and know what they are doing, most of the time they don't though. Like just now Ifinished a gold game against geth, the vanguard on our team did allright the first rounds but after a while he ended up getting downed by primes over in the middle of nowhere, if he'd been a human engineer or something he probably would have been much more hellpful to the team. Allthough I guess he did a decent job distracting them a lot of the time.

I also like having them on my team if I'm playing adept, esp the drell adept, because you can reave their targets nd then have them detonate it for you with nova/charge :P

I find it funny when a vanguard tries to steal my kill only to end up helping me tech burst with my turian sentinel :)

My -favorite- thing is touching off Biotic Explosions and Tech Bursts. Give me more damage potential, I don't care if it's your name next to the kill, I want things dead.

KiraTsukasa wrote...

The problem is, co-op isn't for most Vanguards. 95% of the time the
Vanguards are charging around the map leaving their team to rot. I can
understand doing that in single player since your squad is mostly
useless, but it's not the way to do cooperative play.

If I can keep the enemies away from the classes that are built for long
range, I'm doing my job. I'll relentlessly harass an Atlas if it means
everyone else can unload on it. Vanguards are incredibly durable, played
right, and I'm not talking about just exploiting the invulnerability.
With the massive amount of force you can get on Charge and Nova, you can
stagger even the heavies with ease, buying all of those precious
seconds.

Baerdface wrote...

Vanguard is overrated. It's poor mans Krogan Soldier.

Shut up you...you... double reaper.

Though I do love me some hardcore Krogan headbutting action. Really, I kept
alternating between it, infiltrator, and human engineer in the demo
because a lot of times, the Vanguard was just overkill when I felt like
unwinding on bronze.

Aeduz wrote...

I don't care about Vanguards usually, if they get the kills then cool. The thing that annoys me is when they
charge off around the map and when they die they expect you to run all the way over to them to revive them and potentially die yourself.

's why I make sure I have medigel. I'll wait until the last possible second to use it in hopes I get a revive, but I'm not going to be too torn up about dying either. Of course, I also do my best to get the hell out of dodge when a situation is too hairy for me, and hopefully get into a better spot for reviving (around corners, behind cover).

Roros5e wrote...

My only problem with vanguards is that
the exploit hasn't been fixed yet and probably never will, and it's only
a matter of time before it catches on and everyone is doing it. I
definitely see it way more now than before, and it's making multiplayer
rather one-dimensional.

You mean Charge -> Nova -> Nova? It's incredibly weak against Phantoms, Atlases, etc. I'd take my one powerful nova over it any day, because then I at
least retain some utility against execution enemies. The radius on it
is big enough that you can hang out outside of their range and keep
pounding on them (or drop a Phantom almost instantly).

I love letting Cerberus climb ladders for me. But I also love charging into that dude that was about to step on you, Novaing him to the moon, and then reviving you, holding you tenderly in my arms and whispering that everything will be okay, before I disappear and reappear next to an Atlas, screaming as I rip its cockpit open with my bare hands, jamming my Phalanx into the pilot's eye and pulling the trigger precisely 7 times.

...sorry, I think I just made a multiplayer romance option.

(it was formatted fine the first time I posted, I swear)
