I looked up everything I could about the endings, even listened to the audio and spoilt anything that could possibly relate to the ending before I played, to limit disappointment when it actually came.

Somehow the ending still managed to throw me. I feel incredibly depressed, even though I knew exactly what was coming.

So yes, the ending really is that bad. One of the worst endings I've ever seen.

Quick question: If I was fine with KOTOR 2's ending, will I be fine with this one too?

No. The ending is good if you like to be kicked in the balls and thrown off a cliff. Imagine Beethoven's Fifth Symphony ending with kazoos.

LMFAO!!! That was so funny! :D

Loved ME1 and 2, and while 3 was not the best of the bunch by any stretch it was still enjoyable. That is, until the end. I'm so absolutely disgusted by the end of this story that my instinct is to make a seething rant. I'm not going to take that route as I want to show the subject the respect it deserves since I spent so much time with this game series.

I will not put any spoilers in here, and my negative opinion will stay purely on the drastic change in the quality of the writing in the final missions. I'll leave aside the somewhat shady and cheap attempt to steer people into multiplayer (and thus more cash outlays) and keep my comments focused on the story.

I'm surprised how quickly my impression of a title could turn around so completely.

I thought the writing throughout the series was bright, witty, and smart. It kept me eagerly playing despite what was for me shallow gameplay. The characters became living breathing people and engaged me totally. The mystery of the story as it unfolded stoked my imagination.

While the majority of the story is brilliant, the end is anything but. It was rushed, incomplete, and quite honestly a shallow cliche. I suppose I wouldn't be upset except that the bar had been placed so high.

So in a word, yes, the end sucks.

So I figured out how to use the tools/flash drive to import my Shepard, so I'm just about to play the game. I used to be really excited for the ending and thought that Mass Effect would do something awesome and amazing for the final minutes, but now I don't think my expectations could be any lower.

My hopes used to be that Shepard ends up with Ashley, Garrus lives, Thane gets cured, and Joker gets a girlfriend, but now my one and only expectation is that I'm somewhat sane at the end of the game. Or is that an unreasonable hope lol?

Yes, I've never seen so bad endings in ANY games I've played. And do note this isn't flaming the ME series or comparing the ME games. (love the endings of ME1 and ME2) It's simply honesty. Never seen so bad endings as ME3. I'm sure they're out there but that doesn't make this right! Shame on you EA/BioWare.

favoritehookeronthecitadel@  (rofl awesome name) Ahem, anyways, I don't think any sane person would go insane. But you might feel violated (violated as in this just isn't fair) and also probably pissed off.

I had no problem with the ending I got, I wanna see the other 8-15 lol. I think with a game that has this much of a following, its gonna be talked and ranted about. I thought it was a good way to end it but thats me.

But I gotta say, if you've chosen to never play another Bioware game, including old games they've already made, JUST because you didn't like the last 5 minutes of the game, you're a ******. That's harsh, and I know it, but that's the best word I can think of. You're throwing out hundreds of hours of games you love, because of 5 minutes. Wow people. Just wow.

Now let your hate flow to me. Let your butthurt consume you. Just remember that if you strike me down now, I shall be more powerful than you could ever imagine.

Peace.

I take it you mean the 8-15 crew members? Because this game only has 3 endings and they are almost indentical and very bad.  Yes that's you. Did you play ME1 and ME2 to the end? If you did I honestly can't see why you are okay with these endings. But oh well.

I liked the ending. Left me feeling sad and happy while leaving me questions that I want answers and thus keeping me interested.

The ending is great, in terms of gameplay/emotional effect, the problem is it just..makes no logical sense, and kind of takes the end-result out of your hands. Only part that really bugs me is how your crew got from point a, (on ground) to point b, (in space) in a matter of a few seconds..

I played all three games. And yes I had no problem with it. There are 8 Different outcomes for either you save the collector base or destroy it. so there is the 16

I didn't care for the ending at all.

If I had to sum it up in a single word, I guess it would be "impersonal". It was sort like a terrible game show where all three doors all lead to equally unappealing prizes.

I'm pretty sure that is bs, I did everything and only had 3 options. And not willing to try saving the collector base just to get possibly (if it's even true) more horrible endings.

This makes sense. Indeed, if a company makes decisions that the consumer doesn't like then it's logical to stop buying their "products". At the very least until they change what you don't like.

They're three, and if you're color blind it's one.  The small bit of cosmetic changes at the very end don't qualify as new endings.

This was a good one.

I agree with this. I disagree with your sentiments about the ending. I don't require Shepard to survive. I want my choices to matter, and I feel the last 15 minutes of the game did a poor job of that. I would like to have an option where Shepard lives and rides off into the sunset with whomever, but it's not necessary.

What I feel is necessary is a plot resolution that makes sense in the established context of the game, with no unexplained or bizarre situations in cutscenes that completely throw my mind into a wtf? loop.

I am completely dissatisfied with the ending, mainly because if this is the end, there are so many unanswered questions about the consequences of my actions in ME3 that you could fill a a codex with them. This is the true source of my ire.

So, say what you will, hate me or put me down as being a 'whiner', but it's my opinion and I'm not afraid to put it out there. :bandit:

I would recommend not finishing it if you started it already, and not purchasing if you haven't yet.  That game reviewers weren't critical of this ending is abysmal and shows that they care only about getting previews.  They don't want to anger EA so that's what they do; they ignore the glaring problem with the game.  Or they don't complete it.

Is it an ending?  Yes.  Does it make sense?  No.  I can't explain why it is the way it is.  I really am at a loss for words trying to describe it in any way other than bad, arbitrary, makes no sense, etc.

I wish the ending was right before the final fight with the reapers, everyone is serious and Shepard just gets up and starts a rave in the middle of the Normandy.  Then Joker, EDI and the gang join in, and the game screen fades to black, credits roll.  That would have made more sense than the ending as it is now.

That's the thing though. 90% of you DID like the product. Most people loved the game. But you're going against a company because of 5 minutes, out of 90+ hours.

I hope that one day, a game company decides to not make any ending at all, and just decides to Rick Roll you at the end. I'd respect the f*ck out of any company that did that, just to troll people.

Part of the problem is that the other "16 endings" are actually the same ending with minor differences.

In one a piece of nonimportant architecture explodes. In another, it doesn't. That is counted as two different endings. I'm not joking.
