Ok,

I've been looking all over the place for a DETAILED list of network ports that are required for Origin AND Mass Effect 3 to phone home.

I've a full blown network instrusion system that needs to be configured in order to allow specific traffic out to the internet (or back in).

So far, the readme file in the Mass Effect 3 directory is useless.

If I exempt the system from have any TCP ports blocked, then everything works great.  HOWEVER, THIS IS A HUGE SECURITY ISSUE...

I've searched high  and low for an accurate list, and I'm not seeing one.

I've also started breaking open the packets that EA/Mass Effect 3/Origin are sending (there is also an SSL decryptor in-line), and I'm starting to wonder just why EA is not specifically posting the ports required for it to communiate to the mother ship.

Can anyone provide a comprehensive list of the ports Mass Effect 3 ACTUALLY uses, as the ones for the readme (below) are clearly incorrect:

TCP 42100
TCP Port Range 15200-15300
TCP Port Range 9945-9994
TCP 80

^ These ports to not work when excepted in a firewall / IPS

Interesting that no one has replied to this...

Time to hook up Origin and ME3 to the test equipment an post EVERYTHING it does...

I'm not sure what's going on with the first post... but it should read "ARE CLEARLY INCORRECT..."

The Ports listed in the readme at NOT accurate and opening those trough a firewall will not allow you to play Mass Effect 3.

ME3 and Origin require a hell of a lot of ports open - I'm having similar problems just trying to authenticate my game over my university network.

Support is being predictably unhelpful, but this is the same with pretty much everyone. Support documentation quotes the following

TCP ports:

80
443
9960-9969
1024-1124
18000
18120
18060
27900
28910
29900

UDP ports:

1024-1124
18000
29900

ME3 documentation says these ports need to be open as well:

UDP 5659, 6000

And I was also quoted elsewhere

TCP 9946, 42100 and 13000-13100

Now, imagine what it's like when university restrictions state that you can only open a maximum of 100 ports, and you personally need ports for Steam and Mumble open as well. It's kind of annoying

Please do.
I think that list of ports is just something generic they send out for every EA game, probably compiled by someone who does not know a lot about networking. Most of them seem to be for outgoing connections anyway.
I don't think you need to actually foward anything, I can both host and play ME3 COOP games and my router does not support UPNP.
It also probably varies by platform.

I ran it through WireShark, and I'm going to run it through a CISCO NAC and a Palo Alto Networks IPS to see what it's specifically doing... If I have time I'll run it through a Tipping Point too.

The issue seems to be that ME3/Origin are actually using ports in the 50000 range, and it appears to be doing something else.

This is, of course, completely annoying. I'm not used to paying for something and not having proper support, etc.

Didn't have this issue with Steam, not they they didn't have their moments.

Oh, and the port lists above does not work... Origin seems to be bouncing around on the ports...

...and yes, most universities would not allow this complete range of ports to be open. In fact, most universities use a packet shaper and slow the traffic going out from the campus to prevent non-standard port traffic to a crawl. (This allows things such as P2P file sharing and such to be made useless, and prevents libility. Moreover, if the university you attend doesn't do this, you should find a new school because they have no idea how to protect your personal data either. -girn-)

ok, i've been having the same problem and support keep pointing me to their help with isn't really helping me. I've been tracing a few things and this is what i've found. There is more as sometimes I will get no connection or get disconnected.

- 42127 (TCP)
- 15000 (TCP)
- 17502 (TCP+UDP)
- 6000 (UDP)
- 3659 (UDP)
- 5659 (UDP)
- 3658 (TCP/UDP)
- 10000 (UDP)

Any outgoing packets with a SOURCE TCP/UDP PORT of 3658 or 3659
