Just finished downloading the DAO pre-load from Steam and I have a word of advice..start your download now. It took me about 8 hours to download the whole thing yesterday, and just got slower as the day went on.
But at least I'm ready to go!!

Yeah, just finished mine, came out to about 15.2 gigs, so definitely get started as soon as possible.

In the morning being one of the first people to start download I was getting 280KBS. Then when I was almost finished (~90%-ish) the speed was already down to 60KBS. So definitely start download early.

Downloading steadily >400 KB/s just now. Downloading started few times just to stop before 4% ready, lost 1 hour. Now reached 9%, fingers crossed downloading continues. I'm located in Finland.

The download is somewhere between 8-10GB, the folder uncompressed is 15gb. At a steady 300KB/s it took me 8 hours.

There must be a lot of people preloading now. I did it yesterday at about 12 PM PST and it took about 3 hours, but I was downloading at ~1 MB/S for the majority of the time.



Now I am just waiting for my code, and I have heard varying reports of midnight EST all the way to 3 PM EST tomorrow. The former would be nice as I work 4-midnight today, the latter less so since I work 4-midnight tomorrow too, but luckily I am off Wednesday and Thursday

Every big release-time download I've had off Steam has had pretty variable speeds depending on which resources are being directed at people. With that said my connection tops out at ~180 thanks to my lovely ISP, and I got that continuously for my 24h download.



Hard to say if things'll get worse between now and tomorrow. I wouldn't be surprised if the unlock took place tomorrow afternoon, which leaves a lot of time. And surely most pre-loaders won't leave it till that late, given the _point_ of preloading.

Does anybody have a time (steam unlock)? Valve games normally unlock about noon (central time). but as this game is not Valve, any chance it would unlock at midnight?

hmm scratch all that, just looked, about 1PM central time by Steam website

Around noon.  That's approximately the time the unlock clock points to.

I wanna know if i'll be able to get the steam bonus items if i activate it on steam, because that would be pretty cool



If not, I'm sure I could do without, just wanted to try Already pre-ordered before i found out about the steam version.

I was getting 1M when I started out but that dwindled down to 160kbs by the end of the 8 hours.

I started pre-loading at around 15:30 today, was done at 18:47. Had an almost steady downloading speed of 800 Kb/s. I live in Europe though.

Just look at the store page. It unlock at noon PST on the 3rd. So 3pm Eastern. Kinda lame but they have to make sure it is at least midnight on the 3rd worldwide before they unlock.

If it unlocked at midnight I'd get no sleep and screw up my sleeping schedule for weeks.

Don't ever use the count-down timer to decide when the game will get unlocked during the day.  Steam releases tend to be chaotic and are rarely on time.

First time poster. I purchased through steam a week ago and I wasn't aware of this pre-load business, it was only this morning when I thought " Isn't DaO out tonight?" I decided to check steam to see a pre-load option, not even very noticable. If I hadn't thought of looking at my games list, I would have missed it and probably spent ages downloading after the release. You guys are fortunate though, I live in NZ and my dld speed for steam isn't that great, even with my adsl2+connection. Getting around 130kb/s, anyone know how long that would take?

And once it is installed, and you're playing...   it's not going to affect your sleep schedule....

started mine at 12.30pm uk time it's not 8.30pm and I'm on 97.5% my doenload speed had a couple of 10 minute bursts of about 1.2MB/s but has mostly been around 290 KB/s about 90% of the time about 10.7Gb at the moment has been downloaded.
