they cant make a mass effect 4 without the lead charactor (shepard) in the lead role, shepard IS mass effect, no shepard means no ME4

On the one hand, it probably WOULD sell. Probably not as well as ME3 and ME2, but it'd sell.

On the other hand, I don't imagine Bioware is all that eager to work on future Mass Effect content right now. Justified or not, they have to be feeling burned out right about now, given all that's going on in their own forums. Beyond that, you have to wonder if EA would want to put the resources into making a future game if the outcome is potentially risky. (But again, it would sell, so they might anyway).

Impossible to guess at this point, really.

If they even decide to make ME4, I seriously doubt the current story-writers will be anywhere near the story-drawing-board session for ME4 after this debacle. Initially from what I know, EA gave fair amount of freedom to Bioware to develop the game in their own way. But after this, I doubt EA is going to do a same thing, probably is going to scrutinize the whole project progression and exert their own influence.

Kind of a shame.

I can't believe I'm saying this but I do not care about ME4 unless ME3 actually has a real ending.

I wonder if their refusal to change things is locked into the fact they've developed parts of the game already...

Definitely not, what they've done to the ending was the classic 'torch the franchise and run' move.

I think they have pretty much boxed themselves in with MS3 ending
A prequel would not work for me because I would feel what is the sense of fighting for anything
when I know the eventual ending.
Going to a different cycle like the protheans is also moot because you know they didn't suceeded either
and forget about a future era. it would not reallly be a Mass Efect universe

This Game should now be called Cause And Mass Effect

Death haven't stopped Shepard in ME 2, he came back and delivered at 100%. What makes people think that he can't reappear after what happened in ME 3? Yes it be much easier for those who chose Red Ending (the Good one), as for the others it can be like "We extracted his DNA and Brain Wave patterns from the reapers/citadel, time to assemble"

As for me, in response to Stargazer "- I have a time for one (only?) more story"

they said that Shepard will not be in ME4 nor any of his squad mates, that's as far as we know so far, which shucks i wanted more Shepard, Tali & Garrus runs Kicking ass and Taking names.
Garrus: "Scratch One, Head Shot the Rest"
Tali: "Go for the Optics Chiktikka, Go for the Optics"

I think they are going to finish 3 in a LoTSB/Awakening kind of DLC where you are fighting aboard the Citadel (this is where the Citadel Defence Force assets come into play), to wherever you needed to go.

Bioware devs have referred to a final boss fight multiple times in the pre-release interviews. I imagine we still have it coming.

Kai Lang?

I thought the final boss was Marauder Shields.

(I joke) haha

I would buy a ME4 if I knew it was supposed to have a better ending for the original story.

As much as I love ME, I will NOT buy a ME4. The game series was supposed to be a Trilogy. IT BETTER BE A TRILOGY. Mass Effect is better than games that extend their franchise through endless spinoffs and extra games. Or at least I'd hope they are better than those games.

Key personnel from BioWare have said multiple times through social media that the Mass Effect story would not stop at ME3. Only Commander Shepard's story stops at ME3.

They've been implying pretty hard that an MMO is likely

Personally, I wouldn't hesitate to buy another game in the Mass Effect universe. It would have to be done in the same style as the games we got, but story-wise it would have to be very different and not involve a galaxy-wide apocalypse.

Mass Effect 4 will probably be a real time strategy game where the stranded species on Earth have to fight over limited resources :(.

the true enemy that we were fighting through to get to is Harbinger.......no fighting him now, oh wait so there's no evidence of him dieing, if you choose destruction, if you control them then we all know and can see whats going to happen, there going to rebel, and synthesis well still possibly a war, but more action with the new DNA stuff, same old same old, getting quite bored now, they really need shepherd's return if they do ME4 and everyone else, to fight his arch enemy simple.

Any and all rumors about ME4 are unsubstantiated and based purely on speculation.

Continuing Shepard's story would be a stupid move from Bioware, they even said they won't do it
.

I would prefere to have a game/s set back in the Prothean times, or even further back.

They also said we could we wouldn't get A,B,C endings, and they lied about that. Maybe they're not as smart as we thought

I sure as hell don't want another game with Shepard....this was supposed to be Shepards grand finale.....Bioware made him go out like a Chump.....

I will not buy ME4 if they just made that god awful ending to draw out the story even more, for sole purpose of raking in cash.....

And it really doesn't matter, because unless the Extended Cut somehow miraculously turns out amazing and plugs all plotholes and shows Shepard going out like a boss, ....unless that happens, I will never buy a Bioware product ever again

Feel free to make more Mass Effect games but don't continue the Shepard-Reaper story arc. Set it a few hundred years/thousand years into the future and see the civilizations adapting. And create a new, smaller story. Not a widespanning trilogy. You could import your old saves for some minor differences; (Destroy? Control? Did the Citadel blow up? Maybe refer to Shepard in history books or folklore etc. Small stuff) and just make a stand alone story.

Of course, some tweaks would have to be made:
- Dump the Synthesis ending entirely. It's stupid. You can't build a good future story where everybody starts off "as one".
- Did you or did you not blow up the Relays? Obviously you can't have blown them up (yet we clearly see them do so) because you can't well build a functioning universe without them.

I could see a new Mass Effect game being made. If not by Bioware then EA will ship it to some other crappy studio that can't write good stories. It COULD work.
But if I would want to buy or play such a game as of now is a whole other question.

We'll probably get World of Masseffect and/or Call of Masseffect: N7 Ops.

Both games will synergize gaming paradigms across key demographics for increased revenue streams!

I would DEFINITELY play it to make up for the debacle with the end of ME3
