ME3 is overrated in many ways. Its a Call of Duty with Aliens.

Image IPB

They ripped everything out of ME that made it a nice RPG. Now its only a shooter. There is no world to explore, no items to loot, no difference between the classes (i.e. if you're not a tech and don't have a tech in your squad some doors remain closed in ME1). They even removed the hacking of doors or terminals.

The entire game series is a masterpiece of sci-fi. The third installment of the franchise was, up to the virtual pile of digital compost at the ending, the single most emotional, powerfull and enjoyable game experience I've ever had. To say the game is bad is just plain wrong. The game is near perfection, minor complaints here and there ofcourse, personal preferences. A masterpiece of sci-fi story telling, gameplay, presentation and that mighty soundtrack!

However.. for me personally the ending is so terribly bad that it litteraly manages to ruin more than 5 years of love had for this saga.

Right up until the glowing elevator of doom, Mass Effect 3 was my favorite game *ever*. It also beat out every movie I've ever seen. I've been saying for Months that Mass Effect has replaced Star Wars as my favorite fictional universe.

Jar-Jar Binks was less painful that these endings, exactly because 99.9 percent of the game was amazing.

Not sure about 99.9%. The game as a whole series I would say would've totaled maybe 100 hours, for story of such length Bioware should've given us the ending close to about an hour. 1/30... amounts to about 95%. So I will stick with that.

The game is incredibly strong, barring the technical/QA issues (like characters disappearing during dialogue scenes and occasional freezing/crashing). That the ending completely ruined it for me says how disappointing it really was.

Exactly, if it was a bad ending to a mediocre game it wouldnt have caused this level of outrage. its the awful ending on what was otherwise a fantastic game that makes it such a bitter pill to swallow

Game was great until the end.

My favorite part was the whole Tuchanka sequence. It features Wrex and Mordin, two of my favorite characters, it solved a long-running issue in the universe (the genophage), it introduced a cool new character (Eve/Urdnot Bakara - was that her name?), it featured a thresher maw WTFpwning a Reaper, it had the redemption of Mordin, it had good combat where I got to use my sniper rifle... Tuchanka sequence had it all. And I felt like with Bakara and Wrex in charge the Krogan were in good hands. When Garrus mentioned afterwards that we should get Wrex a taster, I had to agree.

It had cool conversations with Garrus, I loved what they did with Jack, Mordin and Legion broke my heart but were inspiring at the same time, drunk Tali was the best thing that's ever happened, there's too many other good parts to list.

Considering all the things they got right, it just makes the fact that they got th ending so wrong that much more frustrating.

If the trilogy, including most of the third game, wasn't so great, nobody would care about the quality of the endings.

If one was to sift through the hundreds of threads that have been made on here past few days, you would see little to no dissatisfaction with anything minus the ending. You'll see some people upset that ME2 romances/characters are shafted in 3, the whole use of stock photos like tali's picture and the stargazer/wallpaper back ground, and the day one dlc which are all very valid arguments but nothing has come even close to the ending.

We haven't ignored the 95% of the game that was great. In fact, that's actually part of our argument. How can Bioware make a game that's so good and then fall flat on their faces for the final 10 minutes?

Burned out and probably out of time. :pinched:

Did you see how Casey Hudson looked prior to ME3's release?

I really hope the negativity isn't making him depressed. 8 years of building this series only to see the fans go up in rage about the last five minutes.

Tell me that doesn't at least hurt... :(

Of cours we acknowledge it! Why else would we bother with all this campaigning to edit the ending if it was a game we didn't enjoy? We wouldn't!

But, that fraction of a percent at the end of the game... it really is enough to significantly hurt the rest of it. Especially replay value. And I say that as objectively as possible. Replay value really is hurt when A) the endings are so dismal and B) the endings barely incorporate our decisions

The thing is, most of us (non-trolls, anyway) are acknowledging that 95%+ of the game was amazing and built off of the stories told in ME1 and ME2.

The communication gap is where gaming sites are going to the default "LOL LOOK AT THESE WHINY NOOBS WITH THEIR FAIRYTALE ENDINGS" position without actually taking the time to read through the threads here.

We can keep saying it but it needs to be acknowledged by the ones who're doing the reporting, too.

99.9 % good. Except for:

*Story
*Gamecontrols
*Settings, FoV etc
*Using stock Images
*Removing Dialogue Wheel
*Removing exploration
*Citadel sidequests fetch quests
*The Ending
*Day 1 dlc only 1 mission and some banter
*Chobot
*Plot Holes (could go under story)
*No intromovie or anything
*ME1 and ME2 decisions having minimal impact on ME3
*ME3 decisions having minimal impact on ME3
*New character introductions like Kai Leng; rofl. Say hi to ninja jar jar.
*The other things i forgot
*Face import doesnt work (!!!!!)

Ok, except these the game was 99.9 %

I think the fact that 99% of the game is so good makes the ending even worse. If the game just sucked as a whole, I don't think any of us would be concerned with the ending in particular.

The 99.9% of the game was superb...while I played it in blissful ignorance of the ending.

But in a narrative sense, after having finished the game and seen how callously my hero was treated, the meaning of that 99.9% has changed to something painful. So sadly no, I cannot acknowledge that they got the 99.9% "right." It remains downgraded to a 50% for me (but not a 0%).

QFT.

If the game and series hadn't been so good, no one would be reacting like this. It's the fact that it IS top notch that makes the ending seem rather abrupt and wrong.

I really don't miss the vast empty unexplored worlds of ME1 ... I honestly don't. ME2 handled it better. Then again, I'm not big on vehicle warfare anyway. Then again I'm very much a story person. That's what I'm in this for, a good story.

Also, I really haven't seen anyone complaining about anything except the ending. I know I certainly loved the game right up until the platform took me up when I passed out. Some of the stuff before that was hurting, but it made sense.

I will say this for the final 3 choices ... I honestly was conflicted about what to pick. I grudgingly went up the middle line, regretted it when I saw the ending. Reloaded, sat through it all again, Destroyed the Reapers ... and was horrified to see there was no meaningful difference. I then debated trying the Control option and instead watched it on youtube, because I was crying too much to do it a third time.

I'll have to disagree. The game felt pretty rushed. Its glitches & bugs, some awkward & out of place dialogue, lack of real character development, shallow & repetitive side-quests & exploring, and general linear structure are some of the things I had issues with. The overall story was ok, though the atrocious ending pretty much ruined it. The only real positives were improved gameplay & level design. I think a lot of you still have your rose-tinted glasses on. It's easy to just focus all the criticism and hate on the ending, but if you really look at the rest of the game, it's not that great.

Yes..those 99 percenter's did an awesome job. my hats off to you, and thank you. I loved the game...till the last few minutes. And thats what makes it even worse for me. How can such pristine, magical work encompass so much content...and then utterly crash and burn in 15 minutes? It feels like a 920 Cain went off inside me. the 99 percenters made it good and beautiful, and the last 1 percent pulled that heavy weapon trigger.

Take everything that has been said about ME3's endings and I could say worse about Assassin's Creed 2's ending.
The thing is: I didn't care enough about Ezio Auditore, his fellow assassins and the rest of the universe he lived in to care that the ending was awful.

So there, I agree. Mass Effect is one of the best video game saga ever made (if not the best). That it got so many people so upset is a testament to that.
