Its irrelevant. The ending is what ruins the entire franchise. You spend 5 hours making a delicious Strawberry Cheesecake with whip cream from scratch. You savor the aroma about the house as your long hard dedication is showing the glorious signs of triumph. You take your fork in hand. Ready to savor the last morsel of delicious sweetness and then a dog comes and grabs the cheesecake, slobbers all over it and spits it back on your plate.

Would you be able to enjoy the 99% that came before the dog ruined it?

Hahah. Yes. Except, I was expecting the dog to take a dump on it. Seemed a better analogy.

that last 1% is the reason we all even played this game.

I think there was a thread rolling around the other day that was titled "The worst part is that they got everything else right"

Oh it was a great game right up to the end. There were a few incongruencies, but all in all it was the best of ME1 and ME2 put together.

I loved every second of it, up until the end. Everything before the elevator to space god was absolutely gripping, heart-rending, simply beautiful. I thought I was witnessing Bioware's magnum opus. And then the ending hit...

The 99 percent they got right? Somebody's calculations are off.  Let's redo the math here:

Not signing on the main core writer (Drew Karpyshyn), not signing on the main composer (Jack Wall), not signing on integral voice cast members. -10%

Removing the choice to choose Shepard's dialogue and actions 75% of the time, thereby removing immersion from the game. -10%

Save file imports not working and other countless glitches, from neck bending conversations, to getting stuck in several places forcing a reload, Shepard's eyes freaking out from time to time, characters being stuck, objects being stuck, animations not playing properly, people having conversations with thin air. -10%

All actions being condensed to one button, causing unintentional rolls, cover when I’m trying to revive a squad mate, cover when I’m trying to pick up an item, cover when I’m trying to use an item. -10%

Important Core Actions from previous games not mattering, writing being changed. -10%

Having to buy or read books, or comic books to know what's going on with the story (having the story being represented in any other way than in the game). -10%

Endings. -10%

Everything subtracted, I acknowledge they got 30% of the Mass Effect 3 right.

I'll never understand why Bio went that way with the endings... 99% of ME3 was excellent - building up to what looked to be an incredible conclusion... then, well... you know the rest.

Maybe there's some rationale/ reason to this madness, but I don't want to get my hopes up.

I think we need to acknowledge the people who made that part of ME3 cause they did an incredible job.  They aren't getting many shout outs with the huge fiasco.  I'd like to thank those people who worked on the rest of the game who made such a stellar ride.  The gameplay, narrative and visuals were so much better then anything we had ever seen out of Bioware.  These people need praise and acknowledgement cause for the last 2+ years they have been working their butts off making a great peice of gaming history.  Most everyone here agrees the rest of the game is incredible.  Please show them you haven't forgotten about them.

Most of the threads criticizing the ending say something to the effect of "This is the best game I've ever played in my entire life ... until the last 10 minutes". People acknowledge that this game is incredible, but they dont like the ending for whatever reason

Agreed.  I hope whatever producer came in at the last minute and tarnished their amazing game isn't rewarded for what they did to ME3.

Barring the ending, the journal, and some minor glitches, and a few short-cuts, I would have rated the Mass Effect series as one of the best ever and certainly would say that it's a benchmark series.

I especially like the bold decisions [including squadmate suicide, multiple sacrifices ending in death, etc] that the writers REALLY made work for them.

Sound design and the overall setting was nearly flawless.

I could go on & on but I think Bioware knows that 95% of the game was one hell of an achievement.

None of us disliking the endings are really denying that... are we?
It's actually because that what has come before is so engaging and well written that these endings feel even more like a kick in the quad..

Oh is that 99.9% of game ever so awesome. Sucks that the .1% almost destroyed the series for me. :(

Was there any doubt? Almost every complaint I've seen so far comes with a "first 99.5 (or 99.9)% of the game was awesome, then the ending *insert complaint*!"

Oh hoho that 99.9% is damn near perfection, but sad to say that 0.1% significantly destroy majority of the players hearts b.c how horrifyingly bad it is.

Well actually, if you were around BSN right before the launch, the majority of people who knew the endings were the haters who thought the game would suck on everything.  Even spoiled on the endings, I had a feeling that the real ME fans would most likely love the game but hate the ending and that's pretty much exactly what happened

Everyone acknowledges how good the rest of the game/trilogy is. If they didn't, they wouldn't be making such a fuss. Everyone who hates the ending is making such a fuss because of how much they love the rest of the game/trilogy. If we didn't care that much about mass Effect, we wouldn't care about the ending either.

I'll acknowledge this. The game was wonderful until the end. I was emotionally engaged all the way through up untiil post Anderson; the ending and the Starchild left me without a sense of accomplishment and it felt really out of place in the game.

The game, befor Earth and the final 5minutes. Is without doubt, one of the best single player experiances i have ever seen. Script writing, level of detail in enviroments, character interaction, amazing, simply amazing.

Recruiting the mercs, building up the assets, fixing geno****e, making geth peace with quarians, all amazing, even cerberus with a random ninja was still cool.

How you explained TIM wasnt evil, just a pure pragmatist, who even sacrificed himself to make Shepard awear of an alternative. All handled amazingly.

My gripes are not for this thread, i have 101 different threads to make those comments :)

Though I am deeply unhappy with the job that (I'm guessing) four members of the development team did, that doesn't mean I should discount the work of the, what, 196 other writers, producers, musicians, actors, sound artists and what have you that truly went above and beyond.

Seconded.

The game was crafted in an AMAZING fashion.

However: Romanced Liara and did all DLC, even reminded her I still wanted to do the relationship at start: But she forgot until after the Citadel was attacked and I had to remind her again.

Rachni choice irrelevant.

Could not import Character Face/ME2 Gear Properly.

Tali's Face is a LIE.

Entire Quarian plot from ME2 a LIE.

Harbringer a LIE.

Reapers as a Nation Unto Themselves... another LIE.

Other than that. Yes, the game was outright amazing, up until being totally undone by the ending. In fact, we could have ignored the other stuff, but we all bought the 3rd game specifically to END the series. Therefore, the ENDing was essential for us to END the series.

The first 99% of the game was superb, no doubt about it. It was seriously the best game I've played in such a long time. I loved ME2 but after awhile I found the combat sections to just drone on and were awfully boring. I just played them to get to the next part of the story, especially on replays. I never felt like that in ME3 at all. Plus the story, I thought, was top notch... until... well you guys already know when.

They did do a fantastic job with the first 99% of the game. I gotta admit the demo and some of the pre-release promotional material had me worried, but they did a great job of making a tremendously fun game, and importing in SO many different choices from across the whole trilogy. I never would have thought letting Barak or whatever his name is from the Bring Down the Sky DLC live would get me the Batarian Fleet. It was just really cool to see stuff like that. And a real shame in the end when none of that neat stuff mattered anymore.

Even the multiplayer is a ton of fun. Who would've thought the typical Mass Effect formula would work in multiplayer? I've been having a great time levelling up and unlocking different characters and weapons. (despite how overpowered Banshees are :P)

So yeah, the OP is right, they deserve some praise, but that doesn't mean we can stop fighting for what we deserve. Hold the line troops.
