The worst part about it is that it ruins the entire storyline for the series. We work for years to get to this point, then it just like "What the heck? Did I miss something here?"
All the games are great. ME3 might even be better than ME2 for me. Then you get to the ending, and it creates more questions, without answering any questions in process. The ending is a illogical Paradox in itself...that doesn't work.

All in all-yeah it was great.

But the whole ending thing has overshadowed some glaring issues.

-The face import bug (that is being addressed btw-and hopefully patched soon)
-The UNawsome button of revive/cover/dive/use/open and god knows what else
-Auto-dialogue overkill
-ME2 only romances kinda borked
-MS paint Tali
-Origin (Yeah, my internet went down during the last 2 hours of gameplay and I could not load my game-talk about a buzz kill)
-Lip sync issues
-Helmet issues with ME2 armor

Hell, there is a LOOOOOOONG punch list of issues that bogs it down a bit.

They have been lost in the 800 lbs problem crapstorm though.

That's why people are so enraged. If it was a **** game from the start, nobody would care.

The fact that the game COULD have been the game of the decade, easily, and then just RUINS everything at the very last few minutes makes it heart-wrenchingly sad.

I doubt anyone would BOTHER too much if it was a decent game made by a lesser-known that had an ending that was sadly rushed. Things happen. But it was an EXCELLENT game by an outstanding company, and the ending was so poorly written that it comes closer to deliberate corporate sabotage than simple negligence.

Yes 99% of the game was amazing... but the ending just ruined the experience. I'm so heartbroken I don't think I can see the franchise the way I use to see it.

ME3 is awesome.. well written, fun combat. That's what bothered me so much about the ending, the rest of the game was great but that last 5 minutes or so was.. well, terrible. I just hope that the ME team doesn't just look at the complaints because they really did make a great game.

Yes. 99% great. Or something like it. The problem is that the last bit destroyed it all. I can't play it after that. I played ME1 and 2 dozens of times. And I don't feel like I want to play them anymore. No reason to. I'm playing to get that end(s)??? No, thanks. We do things for a reason, and not play for the playing. For that, we would play shooters, action, sports games. Not RPGs.

I would if the ending didn't void the entire franchise.

Up to that point, Mass Effect had been all about choice and consequence. We were not allowed to view the consequences of our actions in their entirety. There is no catharsis. And that brings the entire experience down.

I'll agree that other than a few inconsistencies with the previous games, and the fact that a few of your decisions are invalidated (saving the rachni queen for example), the game was excellent right up until the space wizard kid.

I think we need to acknowledge the people who made that part of ME3 cause they did an incredible job.  They aren't getting many shout outs with the huge fiasco.  I'd like to thank those people who worked on the rest of the game who made such a stellar ride.  The gameplay, narrative and visuals were so much better then anything we had ever seen out of Bioware.  These people need praise and acknowledgement cause for the last 2+ years they have been working their butts off making a great peice of gaming history.  Most everyone here agrees the rest of the game is incredible.  Please show them you haven't forgotten about them.

I'd agree to that. Still don't like the ending but I freaking LOVED everything else. Props to Bioware. Image IPB

I acknowledge it. I loved the rest of the game, it's just that the ending sours the rest of the experience.

-The kid was weak as an emotional anchor

-Execution in revealing tali's face was weak

-Asari history only touched on, but left unresolved

-Lack of resolution to the huge story that lead to the end

-Players had lack of choice at the most important part of the game

-Upgrade system in Liara's room was poorly executed

Thats just off the top of my head. I think thats more than 1%

Very true.  The actors and actresses deserve a heap-ton of respect and admiration for their work.

In fact, if Bioware needs to hire them back to make a proper ending that involves LIs and needs to charge for it, I'm A-Okay with that.  These people DESERVE to be paid their salaries.

The real problem is that and ending is not just 1%. And ending defines the rest. You are waiting for it. You played to get to it. And you want something nice to make you see it again. It´s much more than 1%. It can define a story, a game, a movie, a book, anything.

It´s an RPG (even if it´s action-something-rpg), and the story is the most important thing. A bad ending is much more than that. The rest of the game was great? The rest of it together with ME1 and 2 are great? Sure! But the ending defines it. It´s not a detail. It´s the most important thing.

I agree they got so much right. I've been watching some of my favorite moments on youtube and it made me realize again how much I really loved this game until the end.

Very true observation OP, with everyone complaining about the endings (which I do agree are sub-par) people are completely overseeing the other 99% of the game, which is fantastic. Great job on the game BW, not so great job on the endings.

The ending wasn't THAT bad. If they didn't destroy the relays for every single ending I think it'd be better. It did seem a little weird about joker - where did he end up? why fly away? Why not go back to earth?

Otherwise, the game was pretty damn superb. I think the thing that gets me everytime is just how much banter there is between squadmates - it's fantastic. The "auto-dialogue" people talk about, it's not that bad. I feel like the renegade options aren't as "a-hole" is anymore, so it's a legitimate response.

The gameplay has reached the Goldilocks spot in the game (still have a bone to pick with the heat sink nonsense though... I can think of a better way that's better on lore). Biotics are actually useful against things again, not just against things that are a few gunshots away from death anyway. New squaddies were actually not what I expected (in a good way), old squaddies were just as I remember them to be (with char development up to that point of course). And the storyline bits before the Hated Last Ten Minutes actually made my choices in the previous games actually feel meaningful. Lots of humor moments made me guffaw in amusement.

.... And then the ending. I haven't reached it yet, but I've spoiled myself on it... and it just plain sucks. No previous setup. No bittersweetness. Plot holes and inferred holocausts abound. Makes people so depressed they can't play games (not just ME3 again) for a few days, or puts them off the entire Mass Effect franchise entirely. How did they make ten-ish minutes ruin... say... 100-150 hours of play in a whole trilogy playthru?

It feels like a kick in the quad after all that.
