I keep records of my builds with a shorthand system:

Engineer, Salarian
xxx111
xxx112
xxx1-
xxx222
xxx2-
A9 B11 A12 1:B4 C1 -
Avenger - Stability, Piercing
Scorpion - Scope, Barrel

The x denotes the first three power levels chosen. 1 and 2 denote top or bottom branch option. The - denotes an end of line/not selected power.

The A9 etc. are references to color schemes, with letters for columns and numbers for rows. Pretty snazzy, huh? :)

Just a suggestion. On character builds the hardest decision often isn't what to take but in what order to take it. This is harder to write up but it is something that is typically ignored.

@Vigalance_Pep Cool shorthand for personal use. However, when I post builds to the website my aim to make them accessible and clear to any and all players. Using a shorthand method would require viewers to consult a key before having any idea what xxx111 meant.

For the visualization choices, however, I think this shorthand could really come in handy! I will make it an optional standard on the site and provide a color key once I have the time to do so. Actually Vigalance, if you're not busy and want to throw something like that together... a simple .jpg with a table listing the lable (A1) and the color it represents (color block image) is now near the top of my wish list. I'd appreciate it and give you credit on the site.

Once such a key exists I will add it to the website and update my own personal builds along with any users who request the visual specifications to their own builds.

IMPORTANT NOTE: This thread is getting really long and while it is easy for you to quickly locate and update your original build posts, it's not such an easy task for me. All i request is that in your post letting me know that you've updated, list the WEBSITE TITLE of the build so i can easily search the forum for your build and then find it on the site super fast. Thanks!

@Malanek999 I agree! I've been trying to think of a way to easily incorporate this into the build write-ups. Anybody have any ideas?

Hmm, well order to take stuff in actually has a ton of variability depending upon the playstyle and who you play with. Some of these builds also have multiple valid ways of getting to the final build that change depending upon the metagame.

For example, Asari Glass Cannon in demo was:
1. Max out stasis
2. Throw to rank 4
3. Max out Asari justicar/Go to Asari Justicar Rank 5
4. Max out throw
5. Max out then warp
6. Fitness to Rank 3 if you didn't pick up Justicar Rank 6.

However, in live last week, going warp much sooner is better due to the large number of ppl playing against Geth. Not sure it that's gonna remain true with today's balance changes.

Simplest way to list order of skills would probably be something like I did above, though there may be a more elegant solution.

You should expand the website and make it look better; add background (like when you click on Vanguard - you'll see a Vanguard image on the background). Good job! I'm pretty sure your site would be very successful with some nice advertising.

@HayhaS1mo Yeah the lime green is really bugging me but i'm choosing from limited wordpress themes and going for the most simple and easily navigatable(sp?) theme I can find. If I had some advertisement/endorsements I would pay for the full domain and pay to use custom CSS stylesheets where I could customize with code (something i'd love to learn how to do). I haven't yet installed photoshop on my new PC but I promise i'll have a better background up soon. Probably tonight. And thanks for the link! Do you have a site i can provide a link to?

@Everyone If you have any cool Mass Effect images or screenshots, specifically pictures of the different classes and races, I would love to have some for the site. Just make sure they are not copyrighted. I'm also looking for an elegant and simple Mass Effect themed background. I'll probably make one tonight but based on my experience in other forums someone here has mad photoshop skilz and i'd love to put of background created by the community here (plus you'd get credit on the site! Instant fame! lol).

@Everyone Sorry, forgot to mention I am also looking for strategy articles to post on the site as well. Specifically I'd love to get complete guides for each enemy type (Geth, Reapers, Cerberus). I don't expect one person to write a full guide (although that would be boss) but if we all put our 2cents together i'd be more than happy to compile and edit a full featured guide with pics and videos.
Which also reminds me, if you have the PC version of the game, I could really really use screenshots of builds you submit, as well as screenshots of any other builds I post. Even just general shots of each race and weapon would be loverly. Unfortunately I do not have a capture card for my 360 although now i'm thinking of getting one. :pinched:

Thanks!

Quarian Engi

Build Title:
Flotilla Pyro

Power Evolutions:Turret: Damage/Shields (4), AP (5), Flamthrower (6)
Incinerate: damage (4), Burning Damage (5), Armor Damage (6)
Cryo Blast: N/A *
Quarian Defender: Damage & Capacity (4), Power Damage (5), Weapon Damage (6)*
Fitness: Durability (4), Shield Recharge (5), Durability (6)

* Alt. build: skip rank 6 defender for the first three ranks of cryo.

Weapons:
To taste with a 200% recharge bonus. I use Avenger X.

Strategy:Turret position is key, with the flamethrower and AP upgrades it provides respectable damage soloing a cerb turret. Spam incinerate from cover on "heavy" targets, while letting your turret mop up the "weaklings". One should always have the turret up, using it as almost a grenade.

N00b Rating: (scale 1-5, 1 is easy for anyone!)
2-3, turret positing can take a while to get used to, also the lack of an effective shield removal skill make reliance on teammate paramount. However, the ability to lockdown an area and destroy armor makes up for this.

Sorry, I do not have a way of directly capturing the colors. From the PS3 the best I can do is a capture from scart. Whatever I create in terms of a color chart will be imprecise.

But should anybody provide me with these screenshot images, I will create a coded chart.

Need: Screenshots of main colors, light colors. Skin tones optional.

Build Title: Turian Support Gunner (Soldier)
Power Evolutions:
Marksman: Rank 6
[Firing Rate Option at Rank 4]
[Duration Increase Option at Rank 5]
[Accuracy and Firing Rate Option at Rank 6]

Proximity Mine: Rank 6
[Damage Increase Option at Rank 4]
[Damage Taken Option at Rank 5]
[Damage Increase Option at Rank 6]

Turian Veteran: Rank 6
[Damage and Stability Option at Rank 4]
[Power Damage Increase Option at Rank 5]
[Damage and Stability Option at Rank 6]

Fitness: Rank 6
[Durability Option at Rank 4]
[Shield Recharge Option at Rank 5]
[Fitness Expert Option at Rank 6]

Weapons:
Standard Revenant + Assault Rifle Stability Dampener + Assault Rifle Extended Barrel
Alternate 1 Revenant + Assault Rifle Stability Dampener + Assault Rifle Magazine Upgrade
Alternate 2 Phaeston + Assault Rifle Extended Barrel + Assault Rifle Magazine Upgrade
Alternate 3 Raptor + Sniper Rifle Extended Barrel + Sniper Rifle Spare Thermal Clip

Secondary Weapon M-9 Tempest + SMG Heat Sink + SMG Ultralight Materials

Strategy:

The Support Gunnery relies on practically every advantage one can obtain for stability, accuracy, and firing rate. Focusing primarily on the Revenant Machine Gun, this build emphasizes on volume of firepower in order to suppress enemies and draw attention while allowing the rest of the squad to move and reposition unchallenged.

The Support Gunner is probably at its forte in defensive positions and situations. For instance, during missions where hacking only a single terminal for a set amount of time allows the Support Gunner to choose an optimal defensive position and start unloading flak at incoming enemies. This class is also very good in situations where the enemy can only advance in one or two directions, and/or if there is a significant choke point.

The point of this class isn't to get all the enemy kills, but rather, it's to support your teammates by doing some bits of damage to a large group of enemies, effectively drawing their attention immediately. While the Revenant cannot kill enemies very quickly (unless at close range), its engagement abilities are superb against large groups of enemies, and the Revenant tends to shine against large targets (Atlas, Primes, Banshees, Brutes). It can lay down a sustained volley of fire against a group (especially when taking the Magazine upgrade as opposed to the Extended Barrel), whittling down health, barriers, shields, and armor.

However, that's not to say this configuration is ineffective up close. At close quarters, the Revenant truly proves that quantity beats quality (with a few exceptions, such as the Spike Thrower or the Widow) as it chews through enemies like a lawn-mower. Slap on an 'Assault Rifle Rail Amp' temporary upgrade and some sort of alternate ammunition, and the Revenant becomes downright scary.

Armor-Piercing Rounds: Becomes VERY effective against the bigger targets, as well as Pyros and Guardians. Also enhances its ability to mow down waves of enemies.

Cryo Rounds: With its dispersal effect, the Revenant armed with Cryo rounds has the potential to freeze a lot of enemies, leaving them open for follow up shots.

Disruptor Rounds: What shields?

Incendiary Rounds: As with Armor-Piercing rounds, except more effective against regular targets.

The variant weapons allow for changes in playstyle. The Raptor and Phaeston allow the Support Gunnery to be more of a Medium-Range marksman, not quite to the surgical effectiveness of, say, an accuracy focused Turian or an Infiltrator, but it performs very well.

Why max out fitness?: As the Support Gunner, you're going to be drawing a lot of attention. A LOT of it. As such, you'll be required to keep your head above cover to lay down long bursts of suppressing fire against the enemy, so you'll have to be able to take some punishment. In addition, the health and shields allow you to perform a secondary task: Team medic. Due to your shields and health, you have a better chance of rushing towards danger to revive a teammate, where an Infiltrator or Adept might get butchered alive.

Why Proximity Mine?: As a Support Gunnery, unless you have someone constantly watching your back, you'll typically be VERY focused on a particular 90-degree window. As such, you'll be vulnerable to flanking attacks and rear attacks. The Proximity Mine allows you to, at the very least, leave a small surprise and warning system for enemies that try to flank you.

Why not Concussive Shot?: Concussive shot is nice and useful, however, Proximity Mine performs largely the exact same function, just at a higher recharge rate. Proximity mine does more damage, and it is also a LOT more effective against Guardians and groups of enemies (since you can just fire it at an enemy's feet, causing it to explode, doing damage directly to the Guardian and his buddies) instead of the Concussive shot (which will largely just stun the Guardian). Proximity Mine is also a lot more effective in damaging enemies around corners and behind cover.

N00b Rating: 3

I can get some screen shots of the color selection page this evening for the main colors. I most likely will not be able to provide the skin tones as I do not have most of the classes unlocked to this point.

Build Title:

Salarian Engineer Decoy Tank – by Systmfalur

Power Evolutions:

Energy Drain: Radius (4), Drain (5), Damage (6)

Decoy: Durability (4), Shock (5), Exploding Decoy(6)

Incinerate: Damage (4), Burning Damage (5)

Salarian Operative: Damage & Capacity (4), Power Damage (5), Weapon Damage (6)

Fitness: (1), (2), (3)

Weapons:

Primary Weapon Slot -

Heavy pistol with Scope and Damage Mod.
Carnifex > Paladin > Phalanx > Predator
*Scorpion is an excellent choice and would be ranked the same as a Carnifex.. but it's a black unlock.

Low weight shotgun with Accuracy and Damage Mod.
Disciple > Katana > Scimitar > Eviscerator > Wraith

Secondary Weapon Slot -
*Optional slot

SMG with SMG Ultralight Mod and Damage
Locust > Hornet > Tempest > Shuriken

Strategy:

The idea is to take this build into gold Geth farming runs. You use decoy on main chokepoints to funnel geth. Any geth that gets too close to decoy will start to get spam shocked by decoy. You will have to maintain a close proximity of decoy preferaby around a corner and out of LoS (do not cover corners) and spam decoy every 10 - 15s to refresh it and keep it up. while sneak peeking around corners and spamming energy drain for the AoE damage. Incinerate the tougher armored mobs. Decoy for some reason allows most damage to pass through it and will survive much longer than expected even though it has shielding. Direct rocket hits will impact it and can kill it. It also appears to be melee and flame thrower resistant. The energy drain and spam shocking decoy can keep most enemies in a constant state of semi-stuns which is incredible so your teammates can back you up and kill the enemies quickly.

Noob rating: (scale 1-5, 1 is easy for everybody!)

4.5 This is not for the faint of heart. If matched with a good Quarian Infiltrator and team can make Gold seem like an easy farm. However, on quick matches with everyone doing their own thing like John Rambo it can be frustrating due to the lack of coordination.

Human Sentinel Caster (poor mans asari adept)

Power Evolutions

tech armor - no points, need a respec card though
warp - detonate (4), expose(5), casting time(6)
throw - force (4), detonate(5), damage(6)
alliance - weight reduction(4),power damage(5), weight reduction(6)
fitness - durability(4), shields(5), durability(6)

Carnifex, I don't recommend using anything else.

This build isn't mine, got it from a comment in one of my threads, its really good though.

Playstyle? Spam throw.  I'll just note a few important things. Phantoms will own you but reapers are pretty easy with this build. While you don't have stasis you will be more durable than an asari adept while having stronger biotic explosions.

Noob Rating - 3 The focus of the build is the powers which generally require less aim which allows you to do huge damage very easily with the explosions. However, if you want to take full advantage of this class you will need to hit your explosions around corners and over cover. The carnifex also requires head shots to be a good weapon.

Human Sentinel Hybrid

Power Evolutions

tech armor - damage and radius(4)
warp - detonate (4), expose(5), casting time(6)
throw - force (4), detonate(5), damage(6)
alliance - weight reduction(4),power damage(5), weight reduction(6)
fitness - durability(4)

Carnifex is what I prefer but I think using a lighter pistol or an smg would work.

With the boost to tech armor on 3/13/2012 this build is a little better but your casting time is going to be bad and you are going to be squishier than the caster build. However the tech armor ability lets you deal with some of your weaknesses better like phantoms or geth hunters.

When leveling these up prioritize throw and warp but don't start running silver until you have some points in fitness.

Noob Rating - 3 This build relies Heavily upon biotic explosions like the caster build so doing huge damage is a given. However just like the other class carnifex is the best weapon and to make use of your tech armor you will need to be close to your enemies which is dangerous.

Yes. All of them have the same 12 colors for lights. It is possible that they all share the same skin tone palette as well.

Ok, back to work on the design.

Salarian Winfiltrator

Tactical Cloak: Damage (4), Recharge Speed (5), Sniper Damage (6)
Proximity Mine: N/A
Energy Drain: Damage (4), Shield Restoration (5), Damage Reduction (6)
Salarian Operative: Damage (4), Headshot Damage (5), Damage (6)
Fitness: Health & Shield (4), Shield Charge Delay (5), Health & Shield (6)

Weapons:
Any single-shot sniper rifle will work.  I prefer the Widow, as the build deals damage almost exclusively via the rifle.  The black widow should also work, although I do not have one in the multiplayer.  I would recommend using either a cyclonic modulator or adrenaline booster on gold difficulty; the cyclonic modulator synergizes with energy drain extremely well and makes this build almost unkillable.

Strategy: (for geth)
The central idea of the build is to maximize tactical cloak sniper damage while also maximizing survivibility.  In practice, this is very simple:  use the third-person camera to acquire a target, activate tactical cloak, scope the target, activate energy drain, and fire.  There is enough time to ED one target and attempt a rifle shot on another, but this can easily cause you to miss the shot if the targets are not adequetly grouped or are too close to your firing position to be able to pull your mouse between them fast enough.  You should try to execute your shot volleys as fast as possible, as firing outside of cloak is not going to deal sufficient damage to do what you want to do in almost all cases; however, if you have to deal with a spastic enemy or random screen shake don't feel like you're a bad player for hesitating to make sure you land that shot.  It's always slower if you miss and have to reload.  Tactical cloak still provides all of its utility and mobility benefits, and does not need to be explained.

The effect this tractic has, overall, is that you can continue firing on the enemy when other classes ordinarily could not.  You can afford to soak hits and even bleed your entire shield while taking a shot or repositioning as long as you are ready to land an ED in your next shot cycle.  Not only are you harder to kill, but your overall damage output increases dramatically.

Try to avoid using energy drain while uncloaked.  The cooldown will be very long, especially if you are using any of the heavier sniper rifles.  There will be times when all you have time to do is cloak, drain and run (or, cloak, run and drain), but learning when it's time to retreat is something that will make you a much, much better player.

It should also be obvious that this build is intended for use against the geth.  I have not tried using it against cerberus or reaper forces, but I expect it to not work very well.  Keeping the ED shield up as close to 100% of the time as possible is very crucial.

Note: after the buff to the geth hunters I was unable to kill them with a single TC=>ED=>Widow headshot, as their shield was just barely high enough to absorb the ED.  It's highly recommended that you play with someone using chain overload, both for the shield softening as well as the potential tech burst spam - remember, energy drain has a small AoE by default.  The QI also synergizes well, as does the human soldier, krogan sentinel, and salarian engineer.  classes with lots of screen shaking biotic power spam are hard to play with unless you can afford to position yourself away from them; these classes aren't the best against the geth anyway, so it should be a moot point.

"N00b Rating": I'd say something along the lines of 4-5.  Every missed shot is an enormous damage loss, and faster twitch reflexes will mean more accurate shots (and therefore more total damage and fewer active threats) over time.  You can play safely at a lower skill level, but the overall effectiveness is going to be reduced if you do not use ED to keep yourself in the fight and continue firing when other classes would be forced to take cover.  Practice makes perfect, though, so if you feel like you aren't contributing just keep playing.  Any class that puts a high emphasis on making snap judgements and quick headshots has a wide range of effectiveness based on individual player skill, but it's a range anyone willing to to spend some time playing can improve along.

Here is the color chart. You can use the row and column alphanumerics to describe color schemes. Sorry, no skin or pattern information/support yet.

Image IPB

Describing a color scheme follows the listing of options: PrimaryColor, HighlightColor, SecondaryColor, Pattern:PatternColor, Lights, SkinTone. Pattern is described as a value between 0 and 3, with 0 being no pattern.

Here are two sample color schemes:

Sentinel, Human Male
A10 B4 B12 1:B4 C1

Engineer, Salarian
A9 B11 A12 1:B4 C1 -
