"Hmm, so pseudo-philosophical cyclical logical fallacies aren't their thing apparently.. maybe we should have just, ya know, created one that made sense.."

"Ya, maybe that would have worked, but I like our MacGuffin story-line that's flabergastingly nonsensical.."

"Me too.. oh well.. pass me my coffee cup made of gold will ya?"

If your marketing strategy is pissing off a few million players and then saying, "Gotchya!" I don't think you deserve to exist as a company.

Yeah neither do I, I wholly disagree with them doing this, but if "everyone on the internet" got together and figured out what the ending meant or what not, it'll make people feel like they earned something. I just see this is a way for them to milk DLC's and mini ports like ME Infiltrator etc. They just need to make as much money as possible. Like the rest of the game was pretty good makes me believe the ending couldn't possibly be the ending. Like the supposed leaks of plot (those could be planted), the Twitter things, and soon they'll keep coming out.

I just disagree with their strategy I don't know if it will hurt them in the long run, but for now I feel as everyone else does, pretty disgusted with them.

I've actually sat through the launch of games I've worked on (2 x AAA sports titles) and I can tell you, we definitely were paying attention to both critical and user reviews and feedback. The problem is, how do you respond to the kind of crushing tidal wave of disappointment that is coming from the fanbase currently? And knowing that this is likely only the leading edge of the disappointment - the reason this is blowing up *now* is that players are just starting to finish the game. I can tell you, I made a lot of free time for this game, and I only finished it two days ago. Then I spent a day or so in shock, and then I got mad. I suspect this will only get louder.

That being said, there's almost nothing anyone at Bioware can say. Any statement about this would have to come from the top, and once that happens it becomes policy, so nobody's going to say *anything* until they get official word on what management intends to do (if anything). Management is going to keep their mouths shut as long as possible so they can see what the best direction is to jump. I would bet you green money that behind closed doors there are a lot of concerned phone calls going around. Keep it up, and you'll have an impact. And don't forget to make your opinions known at Metacritic. Privately, people in the industry have been freaked out by the enormous influence of metacritic scores on sales for years - so hit 'em where it hurts.

You should post this in more threads. Very insightful.

They want us to give them new endings? Oh, we got endings. We got dark blue, orange, yellow, light red, purple, black, white, maroon, indigo.....trust us, you'll want to see these new endings.

And all for the low, low price of $15.

Speaking as someone who's also very lightly connected with the games industry -- they are absolutely paying attention, and yes, nobody is saying anything because they _can't_. People get fired for tweeting or coming out unofficially about the company, particularly in dicey situations like this.

So I think the thing to do is be patient, and consistent -- and hold the line. :) There'll be some result, one way or another, and if it's not DLC or something else, there should at least be a response. If nothing else, one hopes that they would plan a bit harder for their future titles to make sure that the endings don't get shafted by time constraints, as for many of us, it's the most important part of the game. (Especially in the final game of a trilogy.)

If it was a marketing strategy and it got this visceral they would have had to come clean and explain what was going on.  If it was a 50/50 thing between like/dislike then I can see it working.  I wouldn't doubt a viral campaign like this could work in theory and may have been suggested at other companies, but in the end the risk vs reward would be way too high for any company to sign off on it.

Reminds me of the end of Star Trek: First Contact.

Beverly - "Think they'll make another Enterprise?"
Picard - "Plenty of letters left in the alphabet."

We got plenty of colors left in the crayola box.

Our influence will stop the angry fans, and today, we will hold the line.

It's likely they watched our reviews carefully, took good note of our most active members and already dispatched a bunch of Death-squadrons to assess the problem.
After all, they are known to stay in contact with their fanbase....
