I'd strongly suggest removing the mention of the "Retake mass effect" and just make this a "Mass Effect community" effort. As long as it's linked to Retake you're giving the gaming media a reason to lash out at the community once again regardless of how much money is being raised.

We've raised nearly $40k with it being related to Retake so I don't think any of the bad publicity we're getting is really affecting us.

Yeah that's true but honestly it was started based off a desire to draw attention to the ending so changing it now would be disingenuous.  I think we could probably try to fine tune the wording a little as it seems every article is just scanning the link looking for something to pick apart.  But definitely we need to let people know what started this in the first place.

I understand the intentions, but I don't think it's disingenuous to remove the link to retake. The reasoning behind the charity was to show that the people asking for a new ending weren't just the entitled whiners the gaming media made them out to be, but that we could use the way retake united the fans towards a positive goal. But it backfired and now we're getting even more negative comments about how we're "exploiting children" to force Bioware to change the ending. So that's why I would remove the link entirely, to show them that we're not trying to use Child's Play just to get new endings. Don't give them reasons to write even more negative articles.

Hm I see your point.  Honestly I would prefer that people promote us a little less to the "big" news people and just the smaller outlets. Let people know through the grapevine.  However I think it's FAR too late to try and change the direction of this thing.  For better or worse, we created a charity monster :P.  Krogan battlemasters full speed ahead haha

And I am just as strongly against this remove, with the caveat that it's not my choice.  This is how it started, channeling what normally would've been destructive raging into something positive.  To try and hide that root now would just make it look like we are ashamed and prove that all the journalist acting like children were right.

I can definitely understand that reasoning. But it's not about hiding anything, it just opens up the charity drive to the entire community. And as much as I hate what the gaming media is doing to the Retake movement, I think there's no point in giving them even more reasons to target us.

Don't worry everyone! Unique wouldn't even think about removing the Retake tags from our charity drives, as much as this makes us feel good and helps children, we do have a cause behind it. Now I know for a fact lots of people who have donated ignore that cause and donate because, well its the right thing to do but as many have said if we remove that cause, we act ashamed. And I am not ashamed, we deserve better endings, endings with more closure no matter how much Mr.Hudson would like to try and brush us off as a "Minority."

Hold The Line!

Yeah, I can just see us getting really slammed if we backed off on the Retake element now.

Might I suggest that we say something about the possibility of making this an annual thing with BSNers? I think that this is something that we've toyed around with. Why not let people know that we're seriously considering it?

I REALLY think we should do this every year, even if we don't get to raise as much money as we did now, it's a great deed. Keeping the name and tagline, of course.

I like this idea, though if we make it annual I think the name should be changed to "Hold the Line!" in the future. No sense in Retaking Mass Effect every year now is there?;)

What I think we should do is state that although it's origin began with demanding a new ending, it became much more about raising money for the children to the point where the ending is just a bonus and mention. If we remove the link now, donators who donated for that sole reasons may get pissed off or scammed. This in a way is us trying to release our anger. So it's really either A. Continue bombing BioWare twitter, B. Spam the forums like hound dogs or C. Donate to charity to feel good about yourself to the point where you may not even care about the ending anymore.

Alot of people have mentioned that they care more about charity now than the ending.

We should keep the name as a way to stick to the movement's roots. It doesn't have to make sense! :P

Yeah I've heard that too.  I think I remember Wounded Warriors getting a shout out and I think it would fit pretty well and it's a damn good charity.

Is there a way I can donate on my iPad, it says I need flash.

It's been a long time since I've dealt with that on this thing

Well, let's think about the name next year. Let's just pose the idea to the OPs and see what they think about maybe putting something on the donations page about doing this again next year.

We remove "Retake" and set the charity up for the Mass Effect community as a whole and in response get "Fanbase tries to misrepresent themselves as speaking for everyone in underhanded charity drive!"
Yeah, heck with that. Keep it as-is or make some wording enhancements gets my vote.

We should definitely not change anything in writing about this movement, it started out as Retake Mass Effect, it should end as Retake Mass Effect. Maybe next year we can name it Retook Mass Effect? =D

I believe you are right.  There are so many wonderful charities out there.....  it's going to be hard to pick one.

Both Wounded Warrior and Greenwish sound like a good place to start.

But in the meantime hold the line for Child's Play!
