Coming in here and trolling does your thread a great injustice.

Also, I wonder if this link is provided so we can go check out the thread and comment and make it seem like it's got massive support.... or maybe I'm being paranoid, can't tell....

I want to quote Kaidan right now and say, "you're paranoid", but you're totally not paranoid.

I'm not sure how a movement that's managed to raise over $70,000 in donations to charity for sick kids can be called a failure in any stretch of the imagination.
The art world can be so pretentious sometimes.
Edit* Where can I get a banner? The one I had exceeded it's bandwith

Hahahahaha - nice! That's from the very beginning of ME1, right?
One other note, I was just reading the Child's Play wikipedia page, and some other game raised 150K last year, so we need to beat that before April 11.

You're trying to advertise that in a territory that is practically your enemy. Nice try, but you cant sway us to your side. We will keep holding the line.

I'll be really happy if we make it to 100K. We can do it guys! Just keep spreading that positive energy!

Really made me sad, she seemed to be genuinely trying to reach out to us - way beyond her working hours, even.

S/he calls Mass Effect a narrative. I'd be worried about that movement... If Mass Effect was a narrative. But it's not. Mass Effect is a game where you choose what happens. Narratives are pre-written stories where everything is already set in stone.

Although, thinking on it, I'd live with the crappy 3-choice ending, if one of them led to being able gather Shepard and crew together afterward in an obvious victory ending. The starchild is silly. Introducing a character in the last two minutes of a movie is the same example of what they did here. It reads to the seasoned critic like the writer had written themselves into a corner, and needed to invent a nonsensical solution to the problem just to end the movie. if they wanted to build the concept of the Starchild into the story (having the Crucible demonstrate odd quirks of self-aware behavior, or having the Citadel computers curiously offer additional blueprint data on the Crucible for no understandable reason,) that would lead in to the idea of the Starchild AI without it sounding horribly contrived.
I sometimes try to shoehorn Star Trek technophysics into a canonically-meaningful answer due to sometimes running the odd tabletop RPG in the reality. So I've gotten pretty good at finding obscure solutions to what seems to me to be either writer error, or Deus Ex Cornerism (ie: "I've written myself into a corner, so I'm going to arbitrarily write an off-the-cuff answer to my problems.")
For Mass Effect 3, one possible solution to the destruction of the Relays (assuming they won't change it) would be the Prothean Relay inside the Citadel. It wasn't built with Reaper tech. Sure it looks the same, but odds are, it's a totally different fundamental computer system and technology driving it. It just does the same thing.
If that were salvaged and reverse-engineered, it would be possible to build Relays on non-Reaper tech in a fairly short time. They'd be smaller, less capable, and traffic would be reduced. I imagine travel to other parts of the galaxy would be somewhat more dangerous, because you're firing a ship without a Relay on the other end, so you're trying to set up the decay rate on the hyperspace trip so that it drops down to normal speed somewhere in the ballpark of a former Relay site. Then the inactive Relay they're carrying is set up and activated, allowing them to build a network.
With that kind of technique, it would be possible to restore Relay travel in years, as opposed to decades, or centuries. It could be used as a theoretical method of restoring one of the fundamental core visuals of the Mass Effect universe, the Relays themselves.
As for full-size Relays, the Collector Relay may still exist, if that one was different from the others. Same for the Omega-4 Relay, offering the potential for this new Relay system to connect directly to Omega and Cerberus, leading to DLC opportunities involving retaking Omega. The Ilos Relay may be a Prothean Relay as well, and may have survived, providing another connection point.
If Bioware went in that direction with the reconstruction, the ending would bother me less, because it would be obvious that the destruction of the Relays was only a setback, rather than the galaxy-ending threat it was made out to be.
(Which is another way of saying, I hope you guys are listening and writing this down, because this bit of creative reverse engineering allowing some fairly in-depth DLC gameplay is storytelling gold)

Agreed.
Speaking of which - here is a personal story about the ReTake charity drive.
After playing the game, I was stunned and shocked and felt awful. I bemoaned the ending all day to my family (who were, even then, already probably sick of hearing about it hah!) and talked to a few friends who I knew had finished the game. I had/have the ME1 and 2 soundtracks in my car - I had been listening to them every drive for months prior to the game getting released because I was so excited for it! But, I didn't have the heart to listen to them. Everything "Mass Effect" related was ruined.
But then, I joined in the conversation where the charity drive idea started and joined this thread. I've found many amazing people here, and a way to turn all that negative emotion - positive! For the first few days after the charity drive started, I was glued to the refresh button on this thread and the charity drive - having many "happy tears" moments over your wonderful comments as the donations began to climb. I even am able to listen to the music again in the car - but now - I don't think about the game - I think about us and how we can't give up - for Shepard's sake.
I just wanted to say again how awesome all of you are and how great it is we can channel something really negative into something really positive for the children.
