Well I'm going to keep hanging out around here. I never imagined I'd meet such wonderful people this way.

Sad to see that misinformation from irresponsible media pushers is causing this to shut down early, possibly costing sick kids another $20k in donations.

This is truly sad news for me. I am amazed that the forces (varied as they were) against us managed to shut down this effort so short of our projected end date. The amount of good we did was phenomenal, and I am for the first time on this thread expressing my active anger at the people who's ignorance, malice, or just shoddy reporting led to this.

I think we accomplished more than most of us thought possible, and I for one will continue to give to Child's Play when I can in the future as, as I hope others will.

I'm crushed to see the drive come to an end. But heatened that the Retake movement survives.
It is a real honor to have been a small part of this.

It's good to know, even In the end, the Paragons held the line for the kids to the last.
Still holding the line for ME3

Well, this pretty much sums up how I feel.. Proud, yet sad...and slighty angry that this great thing we were doing has been made undone by forces beyond our control. It might even be that it's because we've been so succesfull? I dont know, but even though I'll still be holding the line, I'm sad to see this great initiative go. :crying:

While I think it's admirable that you guys put forth the effort for the charity...

...A conspiracy theory as to why it has to wind down? Really? There's absolutely no evidence EA in any way did anything to put this charity down. It seems clear that Child's Play is worried about a implied connection between the charity and the petition and simply wants to take some preemptive action.

To assume there's some backroom deal between made between media outlets and/or EA is getting a little too martyr-ish.

Still, glad to see you guys could do some good for a good cause.

And a reaction to the current mentality outside of this thread. No need to search for problems where there are non ^_^

Anyway, a big thanks to Unique and everyone who was part of this great effort!

Even though I am sad that this Donation was frowned upon on many sites around the Web, we all know why we did what we did, and for that I am honored that I could hold the line with such wonderful people.

I will keep holding the Line and I hope to be able to keep on interacting with all of you in this very Thread.

Again Thanks to Everyone and I am proud that we were able to collect this much money to provide some kids with Happiness when they most need it.

Sad that this has to end, but if the charity is getting flak by association then the drive kinda becomes self-defeating. I think UN is making the right call here - there's nothing to stop anyone continuing to donate after 80k, of course, but do it secretly.

This.
I think without the charity the heart of the movement will slowly die down. Sure, there will still be people out there that dont like the ending, but it'll be just like with anything else, theyre gonna do it quietly. So sad to see that they've silenced our voice in this and that we no longer have the charity to focus on.

Perhaps it was because they knew how big the charity was gonna get in the end? Afraid of the outcome and the bad press? Who knows. Just like with so many other things the truth might never get revealed. :(

Indeed. We want to help them with our donations and not make problems for them.

Being in Europe I apparently somehow missed that people were claiming we were using the charity money as blackmail (ie. not pay if Bioware doesn't change things)... how can there be so many so-called journalists who don't bother to check facts before they start announcing nonsense as "fact"?

It is so mind-blowingly sad that journalists would sabotage a well-running fundraiser for a charity in order to get some sensationalist headlines with which to demonize a group about which they clearly haven't bothered to learn anything.

Anyway, I am proud of how much we were able to do for child's play, and it is of course the right call to wind it down if it's coming to problems for the charity (though it's incredibly sad to have to wind it down because of ignorance).

Nice article, but of course from before the wind down:

Just a thought, if they're really planning on making a Mass Effect 4 then the linear ending we all got was probably an attempt to limit the amount of import variables that they would have to take into account in the next game. Since ME3 was supposed to be Shepard's final outing, its still no excuse for ending such an epic interactive arc in such a limited and confusing way.

If that's potentially the reason why, ME4 imports....I mean, why do we even need a ME4? I love the world and its characters but why could Mass Effect just be Shepard's story? Why must every IP be drawn out into infinity? I would actually respect Bioware more if they just let an amazing trilogy stand for itself. I get the economics: hot property = money money. I don't know if ME4 is a sure thing...but if it is I don't really see the need for it. Mass Effect was Shepard.

Aw, I don't think it's as doom and gloom as all that. There were also letter writing campaigns, the patch sending thing etc., so it's not like the charity was the only thing the community was doing. Right now, I'm sure a lot of us are sad. The drive was going so well and we wanted the 100k for the kids. Probably many of us will be a bit quieter for the next day or two as it sinks in just how far journalism has sunk... but it's not like we no longer hold the same principles, and we have many creative people among us who will find other great ways to channel our energies.

Keep your chin up, and continue holding the line! I know I will (even if this is a bummer)

Hey everyone, I want to echo what has been said recently.

We did raise a lot of money for Child's Play and those sick, scared children in the hospitals will at least have some happiness thanks to the money we raised.

I am saddened a bit, however, that our charity drive had so many "enemies". Why would people be against raising money for children? I contacted "Child's Play" and was informed that the main reason they requested us to stop the drive was because they were getting tons of "hate" mail.

So, while we were acting civil and doing something positive, the people standing against us lashed out in the worst way possible - and - it seems that had a bigger impact than our positive, civil protest/petition.

Child's Play even indicated they plan to change the way people can donate to them in the future to prevent this from happening again.

I am debating contacting Forbes with this information. It seems being "Paragons of Protest" was fine and good - but the real influence behind shutting down the charity drive, attempting to raise money for kids - was "Hate" mail. It's not like this was a widely political - world changing event. It isn't abortion rights, or the world economy - it is the end of a video game. Captialism. BioWare has every right to change - or not change the ending - as they see fit, and they must deal with the consequences (more sales, or perhaps less sales in the future) as a result.

I am proud to be standing with all of you and holding the line in a civil, courteous manner, it looks however, like the "hate" mail tactics - are heard louder by the folks at Child's Play.

Hold the line.

A suggestion: whoever has been doing the great banners should make up a new one to commemorate the end, to celebrate the 80k we raised before getting shut down. I'll proudly put one in my sig.

Seeing the end of this really kicked the wind out of my sails... I hate that Childs Play was forced by outside influences to dissociate from us... still, we accomplished something wonderful, and NO ONE can take that away from us

This is what I was thinking, I wanted to hit 100k. But it doesn't surprise me, I have seen some real shoddy journalism in a lot of the articles I read.

Not sure what to think about passing the truth on to Erik Kain/Forbes. It's pretty infuriating, but I don't want to create more problems for the Retake movement or for Child's Play.

Forbes would probably run an article about it if you contacted them. I've seen that if people comment on their articles with new relevant info then they'll add that to the article. The fact that they've recieved hate mail and that in turn has stopped them accepting our donations as a group has angered me.

Great job guys, despite the so called 'journalists' opposing and ridiculing us.

I know, I am torn too.

I kind of want the story out there - that a positive protest/petition was stopped by - how did the BioWare guy put it??

Deconstructive criticism.

But, I don't want to introduce more chaos..

So torn...

Well, Sure, I'll do my part, thats what Im here for. Its just that without the charity to sort of be our flagship and say "this is how much support we've gotten, there are A LOT of us" we're going to get regarded to as the minority again. Its going to be "all talk" from the point where the charity ends.. Ive seen it happen many many times and it just makes me sad.

I really dont see how this drive is causing trouble for anyone if the official retake mass effect chip in page had all the info on there to confirm that we're not affiliated with anyone and that we're just organizing this as a fan base to make our voices heard.

I really dont want to think that ea/bioware had contacted them and said "hey, you either shut them up or we pull our support, theyre getting too loud now", but its a possible theory, is it not?
