That.. that is absolutely disgusting!

Whoever these sad haters are need help, professional help. They are obviously sick in the head.

This will come out anyway probably & so it should! How can anyone justify hating on a Children's charity.

Ok. I seriously doubt that BW/EA had ANYTHING to do with this. The more likely scenario is that the ruthless gamer articles that came out produced a lot of mean spirited people that wrote to Child's Play about accepting money for this.
And please, don't make it worse by condemning Child's Play for trying to gracefully part ways. We donated money to them, but with the price tag of a huge sh*t storm attached. Let's focus on the positive, and find a way to move forward.

The thing that really gets me is that the same dissenters that bought into all this "Falsely Justifying our Opinion with superior Morality" stuff and ridiculed our Movement now resorted to Hatemail?

Accusing us of Hatemailing BioWare while Hatemailing the Organisation we send our Donation to, even though me made it clear that they had no part in this?

Anyway I'm starting to ramble to much again, and if I weren't so sad I would probably burst into laughter due to the ironic nature of this outcome...

I think we should let Forbes know but let them know that it's not that charities fault, but the fault of ignorant, childish people who would send hate mail to said charity.

Don't bash the charity, if you wanna bash something, you can bash me. Bashing the charity is a dick-move, period.

I appreciate the charity assisting us with our cause and putting their reputations on the line. I also appreciate the people who donated and assisted them with THEIR cause. Because it was not about what WE could get, it was also about what we could GIVE them, and the children.

Guys, try not to bad mouth Child's Play.

Yeah, that's really not right

Yeah, really guys. If they're getting a mess of hatemail, you should be angry at the people making their lives miserable.I think it's disappointing, but try not to be mad at Child's Play. They really are a good organization.

The best thing to do is not bring attention to this at all. Claim we reached our current goal of 80 thousand, let us do a Bioware and make it seem as if this were our goal all along, that we had never intended on going past 80k and now, we are discussing new charities to donate too. We can spin doctor this just as much as any company can guys.

This isn't Child's Play's fault, get that through your head.

I wont say what most likely happened, but I think a lot of people can guess.

Agreed.  Keep the peace.  And if you're involved in future charity endeavors Rosery--feel free to hit me up for help.  I'll never get sick of doing this kind of work.  And I also find the Retake chat too crazy with 20 some odd people in there.

Just like to point out.....just because the RME Child's Play drive ends, does not mean we fine folks can't still continue to contribute. We contribute because its a good thing to do, not because we just want to draw more attention to us.

It just doesnt make sense. So what, hatemail? c'mon, I mean they must've had that all the time like any other organization! Stopping the movement doesnt make sense unless someone pushed them to do so. And I will not point fingers at who I think did it.

Im okay with the donation that I have made, but yes, It feels wrong that we're cut short. Its like being denied rights to something. You dont get put in jail because of a complaint, right?

And why did UN suddenly decide to take a break? Because he didnt want us to try to convince him not to shut down the charity? Or maybe he felt a ish-storm that was on its way due to what happened? (not tryin to bash you UN, just frustrated is all).

I amost feel like starting something else up, but that would be dumb and pointless "oh look, another charity. trying to mimick the one before."

meh, guys.. Im sad now :(

While no direct reasoning was given, I believe UN is taking a break out of sadness and being burnt out, along with needing to organize some Rl stuff. He began this movement, hell I came up with the idea, trust me when I say my sadness at seeing it end like this is great but I remain because I have been inactive as of late, UN hasn't. He's been here and doing things for us behind the scenes almost every day, he just needs a few is all.

That being said while I am sad it's ended, we ended with a bang. Don't bash Childs Play, while I am saddened they will hurt themselves by removing ChipIn as a method of donating, I understand why they wished to cut ties, don't like it but understand. Hold The Line, Keep your chins up and stay strong!

You know the more I think about it the angrier I get. And it's not directed at Child's Play, Bioware. It's at these game review sites. I am now 100% sure they never played through the ENTIRE game to THE END, and are now trying to beat down our movement to hide their poor journalistic work and ****** poor review process. I think some big name journalism entity needs to hear about this and take them to task.

If someone can figure out how to do it would be awesome.

HOLD THE LINE!

How about we get another charity lined up that we can switch to?

My vote would be for these guys: http://www.computeraid.org/ who get computers into the developing world. Kinda the same idea as Child's Play - helping others through technology.

I definitely understand the need to wind this down, but have to admit I'm disappointed to not reach the 100k mark. Still, $80k in 9 days?! INSANE! We should all be very proud and grateful that we were able to pull this off in the first place. We still have a lot of work to do before the end, but let's keep holding the line to the very moment of success!

Why? Many were assuming that Child's Play was in some way supporting our position, while it was not doing so in any way. And the fact that we caused them to receive hate mail is a real shame.

I get hate mail at work all the time. You know what I do? I tell people to check their facts because theyve mistaken or that their information is incorrect. When that is said by an official source people just go "mmkay, thanks" 95% of the time. 5% of the time they will accuse you of lying to their face.
And you know what? Its the same everywhere.

Yeah, these 'journalists' will probably say that now Bioware have said they're going to do something about the ending we've stopped donating to charity, which couldn't be further from the truth.

Oh, God. You're probably right.

It amazes me that, somehow,  we're constantly being labeled (by the press and other forum posters outside of Retake) as full of vitriol.. while we're being perfectly civil the whole time..  yet there are people out there in the world that have sent so much hate mail to a charity, that said charity had to take action.. and in the process lost donations..

Well, lovely..  That is just..  I honestly don't know what to say.

How can anyone stoop so low  to send hate mail to a charity organization? For any reason whatsoever..

I think the idea of switching to a new charity is a fine response to this. I have no problems with Child's Play deciding they don't want to be 'part of the politics' of our movement. I think it's a fair response on their part, they want to help kids but they're not here to be a mouthpiece for our views.

I loved that we did so much for them already. I think it's a good idea to try and find another charity we can contribute to. This time, I don't think we need to attach our 'manifesto' to the charity itself (like the chip-in page) but place it outside the Chip-In page so people know *who* is contributing, but that we are doing it to help the charity, not simply to further our own goals.

Giving feels good, and it's a positive response to something that made us upset. I would like to continue in this way, but clean up the 'political' side of things so we're not putting the charity in an awkward position.

I saw nothing in UNs statement that even mentioned hate mail, where is that coming from?
Does anyone have any evidence to support that there was hate mail?

Another charity drive will probley not erupt for the movement and permit me to explain why. If we just jump into another charity, it lends credence to the argument that we were only doing it for our cause, not because it was the right thing to do. Be assured talks are going on, we ARE going to make this an annual thing, so keep your eye out for UN,Myself,Ulric,Eirilith,Sna, and TX. For now though we have a war to win for our new endings! Lets focus on that once more.

Also most Charitys will have caught wind of this PDQ I imagine and will be hesistant, we'll likely get similiar reactions pretty rapidly.

Hold The Line, Comrades.

That's also a fair approach.

I think we need to restructure the identity of ourselves as gamers with a common interest other than being angry at something, if we're to continue pushing the charity drives. That will have to come with time.

I think the idea that we pulled together almost 80k in donations is still amazing.

To all of you worried that the journalists are going to use this against us:

What does it matter? They were against us in the first place, yeah, they might have more ammo now, but this changes little in the end. What are they going to say: "Oh, the bastards raised 80 thousand dollars for charity and then just decided that they were done donating after they got what they wanted." It's just circular logic; you can't be a jerk for not donating enough money to charity. It'll just make them look even more immature.

Please don't go around and badger others to assist us. After what happened to child's play, others going to be very weary. We made our point across, if you really want to donate more, go to childsplaycharity.org, and donate there.
