Sunshine Foundation
The Hunger Project
International Rescue Committee
International Peace Institute
The Centre for Victims of Torture
Special Olympics
I have chosen charities that are international rather than just, for instance, American. I have also tried to avoid charities associated with ideologies or religions, as although I have some strong political/religious feelings myself I think those could divide us and it's better to choose something that the vast majority of us would be happy to support. Thoughts? :-)

WHO THE HECK SENDS HATE MAIL TO A CHARITABLE ORGANIZATION?!
Regardless of our motives, as haters claim, it still did a lot more good than they'll ever do.

I'm...crushed, to say the least. I was almost more invested in the charity drive than the actual ending debacle. I felt like we were actually doing something with that, and it had become far more important to me than what brought us all together. I was so excited that we'd come together and done so much and I was eagerly awaiting hitting that $100,000 mark.
Whatever happened, we still did a lot of good, but we had the potential to do a lot more.
80K is still huge, and waaaaaaay more than anyone who was here from the beginning thought that this thing would make. It's really astounding. And I've said this before, but I'll say it again. We owe BW for bringing us together. Their story is responsible for bringing us all together. Personally, I don't agree with starting another charity so soon, but I think we should keep thinking about how we can "hold the line" and show BW that we care enough of about their story to ensure that they give it the epic ending it deserves.
No doubt $80,000 was huge. I mean, I was floored when we hit $5,000. I'm in favor of starting up another drive, though. I didn't donate much, as my money's really tight these days, but I feel like there's more good we could do, and I had wanted to try and donate a little more at the end of the month.
But you're right. What we did was phenomenal.

The fact of the matter is that in little over a weeks time, $80,000 was made for charity. That's an excellent amount, and its obvious that it would have grown more over the course of the next few weeks. No matter your personal beliefs, charities are about getting resources (money) to those who need them. Specifically those who can do good for the less fortunate.
So lets start a second charitable drive.

Just a quick note:
I heard back from Child's Play. While I will *not* be doing it - they do say they are willing to refund a donation... See below cut and paste from my email...
We are certainly willing to issue refunds to any who request them. They can contact me and I will issue it through Paypal, and I'm happy to do so.
I think there is still a bit of misunderstanding within the community about our issue- not with you, but those who feel we are trying to cut off the RME group. I'll try to explain why this is a difficult issue for us- one that RME wasn't causing, but just brought to light.
For example, if someone took a hotly debated political issue and said "Donate to Child's Play to support [insert issue here]", it could potentially cause some serious issues. Clearly what Retake Mass Effect was doing is in no way negative, it, like I said, created a slippery slope for others to use the charity for agendas we clearly do not support.
Thank you again for getting in touch. We take the concerns of the community very seriously, and I hope that this helps clarify.
Regards,
Jamie
Thanks for getting in contact with CP and posting the info.

I agree. The charity drive is a done deal. We finished it. Now the important thing is to prevent the message from being obfuscated. Don't let people forget *why* we raised that money, and that we did it in so short a time.
Clearly, if BioWare wants more of our money, they need to make us happy. But if they do choose to address the issues we have, they *do* stand to make a profit, because we have the money to spend.
That's a pretty important subtext to the overall message that we are not 'greedy' and 'selfish.'

Rosery has the right of it. If we devolve now into a slavering mass of anger and rage and argue among ourselves it will only hurt the cause, not help it. So calm down, continue to support the group as best you can.

Also, the fact that the website itself is down is very confusing to some because they bookmarked the website and not this forum thread.
If I were the one running the site I would have left the site up, but removed the ability to donate, and then added a new announcement explaining what happened, because again, taking the site down is confusing a lot of people right now and they're coming up with conspiracies that EA/BioWare had it shut down.

If I could talk to the me from a month ago and tell him that this was where the release of my most anticipated game would end up, I never would have believed it.

I'm glad we managed to raise all of that for the kids, but I'm so sad that we can't raise more.

Jumping to another Charity though might seem like a good idea but it is not. Because the media will have a field day and they will tear us apart. Stick together, keep vocalizing, tell your friends and family. Make sure our voice is heard and don't back down and don't fight with one another. We have to stand together stronger than ever. By doing so we present a united front against those who would see is torn apart and scattered to the wind.
Only with a united front can we hope to effect any kind of change in the gaming industry and a change in the endings to ME3.

Retake Movement: Sends 80K to a Charitable Organization. They may have an agenda behind it, but they have done good.
Haters: Uses hate-mail and fear against a charitable organization to pressure them into refusing our support.
I'm gonna go look up terrorist in the dictionary...

Please everyone, if we jump to another Charity we set the wrong message, please for now just do your best to support the cause. Bring peoples morale back up, we don't want to send any major messages. All I ask is a little patience on your behalf. Thank you.
I'm not sure how we're setting the wrong message.
People donate to charities for various reasons. Some donate to charities only because they, or someone close to them, got the disease or experienced the trauma etc. at some point. We don't sit here splitting hairs over their motives being "selfish".
$100k to charity is $100k to charity. Period. No negatives to starting up another charity.
