I, on the other hand, have no problems urging people who have given to the charity not to ask for refunds. Regardless of what happens to this movement or the wish of Child's Play not to be associated with us, the children they help are the ones who matter most.victoriakm wrote...

Most importantly of all, I ask that everyone who donated PLEASE just let things lie. The cause is good, and the reason that it was shut down is understandable. Do not prove everyone that mocked our efforts right by asking for a return on your donation.
I was with you right up until the last paragraph, on which point I respectfully disagree.
I would never urge anyone to do anything other than make their own determination on they will proceed.

Folks,
Let's try to get word about this to the media - CNN, Fox News, BBC, whomever will listen. What was done to this charity is unacceptable.
I agree with this completely.
What kind of people send hate mail to a child's charity? They call us immature?
Riiiiiight
Still holding the line for as long as it takes.
Is this confirmed, or is this just a theory? Who says it was hatemail?

I'm not sure "Fox News" and "help" belong in the same sentence. I realize they covered this before and they weren't especially condescending, but the Charity Drive did what it was meant to do--help children and give people a constructive outlet.
We need to let this go and find something new to focus our collective efforts on.

We should put it towards Nathan Fillion's charity, Kids Need to Read.
I know the director, and she is super passionate and awesome about what
she does for kids who are in schools that can't afford new books. I'm
local to Phoenix, and they're going to be at Phoenix Comicon in May. I'd
be happy to help deliver the check with a bunch of the local Mass
Effect supporters and get positive press for the campaign.
I am happy to strike up
the dialogue and contribute to helping get a new campaign (or website)
up, if we can get the blessing and support of the Retake ME3 founder.
I've worked with PR/Marketing, and could help address concerns with
informative, positive press releases. I think need a strong voice on the
Retake side that can deal with an onslaught of negative press is vital.
If this sounds like a good idea (working with a new charity), I can get
it set up with KNTR fairly quickly and have things ready to promote
with everyone's blessing.
I'd be hesitant at choosing a charity so quickly, but I'll put my
full disclaimer: I was the volunteer marketing director for Phoenix
Comicon in the past, worked with KNTR, and they are a phenomenal
organization. They're hosting events at this year's event to raise
funds, and are always on board with groups, big and small (small as a
Boba Fett armor set being raffled), to address the important issue:
getting the money to the kiddos who need it!

I personally was very impressed by the charity drive and proud of all the community members who participated. Thank you for the good thing you did for the kids.
Now, let's stop it with the conspiracy theories, baseless accusations, and blame, and, if you guys still want to do something constructive with your movement, then do something constructive with it instead of wallowing in something that capped off a "very good thing to do." You guys should be proud of yourselves.
Thanks for attempting to keep the peace and for the kind words about the charity. Much appreciated!

I really disagree - assuming that we're leaving the 80K with Child's Play and simply moving to another charity for further donations. I don't see how simply stopping donating to Child's Play, when that was requested of us by the charity itself and not a choice we made, shows that we don't really care about the charity.Fuzrum77 wrote...
Jumping ship to a new charity leaves us open to the media's inevitable stance: "Well...I guess they didn't really care about Child's Play. It's all about the attention. They don't care WHO they give their money to, as long as it's positive attention." It will look very, very bad. And I know how sad that is. Giving money to charity is a wonderful thing, and I encourage all of you to continue to do so within your means, but as an organized group, I think Retake Mass Effect needs to look to another avenue. For now.
I don't think we should be worrying how it makes us look to find a new charity for further donations. We should just concentrate on finding a good cause and making sure that as many positive effects result from our ME3 ending disappointment as possible.

I'm gonna go against my fellow "leadership peoples" (god it's weird to put myself in that category) on this. I'm with Victoria. If they have a problem with us getting them donations - someone else is more deserving.
I won't ask for my money back, but I can damn well assure you they won't be getting any more from me. There's plenty of other places that would love to have this kind of donation base, whether or not they get mean-spirited e-mails.
So...someone suggested an $80k banner. I don't know if I'm who you were talking to, but I'll go ahead and make one. And if anyone involved in any more efforts want artwork done, I'll be happy to do what I can, whether it's for another charity or something else entirely. Because when I saw the ending, I was heartbroken and hurt...when I saw this drive, I was hopeful and uplifted...when I saw the reaction some people had, I was incredulous and disappointed...and now? Now...I'm angry. Very, very angry...and I don't plan on simply letting that simmer.
What kind of heartless person would want to get their money back from a charity. Regardless on how I feel about the issue iteself. That is just sick. "Here, I want to donate some money." *waits a few days* "NEVERMIND ! YOU GUYS SUCK I WANT MY MONEY BACK!"
That's really bad.
I...didn't say I want my money back? I said I won't be giving them any [i]more[/] money, because there's plenty of charities out there that won't take a "thanks for your cash now gtfo" attitude.

Seriously, guys, this is a win. Getting cut short because inaccurate journalism and hate mail put CP in a bad position is disappointing ... it's disappointing for a variety of reasons, but ...
... $80,000.00
Let me say that again.
$80,000.00
Please direct your attention to page 20-ish and 60-ish (if I'm remembering that right) of this thread, for the shocked responses to the first-day $1,000 donation, and the mid-drive $10,000 donation. We didn't make those specific donations, but the overall tone there?
We did that.
We took something that was upsetting us, and we said "Y'know what? Screw being depressed and upset and angry - We're going to do something awesome and uplifting."

Fully agree. People need to settle down and look at the bigger picture here, regardless of what side you happen to full upon. While I do not agree with the decision rendered, in light of the fiasco I can understand why. We need a good thing now everyone calm down. Don't ruin a good thing.

Even if it is no chosen or anything, it still makes me happy that some people have now heard of it because of the suggestions and how many people go on this forum. If it works out in the end, you've made a CF patient very happy.
No need to donate either, just raise awareness and let others know of it.. I figured I'd post it here because of the whole issue going on with Child's Play and I admit it it's very unfortunate that it had to end this way, but this definitely showed the power a community has once they work together. But it is also nice to have a wide variety of charities to select. I wish you all good luck and hopefully, soon, changes come up that will leave us satisfied in the end. But even if it works out your plan with Retake and such, don't give up giving to others. Even if money is tight, there is still much more you can do without spending a single cent. I know that for good deeds you'll eventually be rewarded in the end, because I believe if you do good deeds even when things are tough and nothing seems to go right, you'll eventually be rewarded. There's always hope.
Good luck folks.

No, unfortunately it was probably someone who has a problem with the retake mass effect movement that did this, and it was probably done by a fan.
And we wonder why people refer to us as entitled. I am utterly disgusted right now -- attacking a damn charity. Whoever did this: Shame. On. You. I can't put my contempt into words, for it is limitless. If there's someone I would feel seething hatred for, it would be someone that antagonizes a children's charity.
Things are getting really out of control.

I do see the quote's point, having said that media can spin anything into a negative. You don't need to give them ammunition, they just invent their bullets out of thin air.

No way, he objects the movement: DESTROY him.
So have we decided what would be best to do? Donate to another charity or let it lie for a bit?
