Folks,

Let's try to get word about this to the media - CNN, Fox News, BBC, whomever will listen. What was done to this charity is unacceptable.

I agree with this completely.

What kind of people send hate mail to a child's charity? They call us immature?
Riiiiiight

Still holding the line for as long as it takes.

Is this confirmed, or is this just a theory? Who says it was hatemail?

The only people that know what happened are people who have communicated with Child's Play directly on the subject.  Please DO NOT spread gossip to major new sources.

Yeah. I was pretty sure, that this was not confirmed. People should concentrate on FACTS, not on Gossip or Assumptions.

I personally was very impressed by the charity drive and proud of all the community members who participated. Thank you for the good thing you did for the kids.

Now, let's stop it with the conspiracy theories, baseless accusations, and blame, and, if you guys still want to do something constructive with your movement, then do something constructive with it instead of wallowing in something that capped off a "very good thing to do." You guys should be proud of yourselves.

Thank you, Stanley.

Guys? Seriously. Time to move to the next step. Let's be civil. Paranoia doesn't serve our cause, being vocal and eloquent serves our cause.

Yes. Stay civil

And again thank you Stanley

This. While it's unfortunate that we weren't able to raise more, that shouldn't detract from the fact that we raised a good chunk of money for some pretty sick kids. That's what's important to me, and that's why I donated. While I would love it if something could be done about the endings (and, as of now, it looks like something will be done), I didn't give my money to charity for that.

Furthermore, making a big stink about this isn't going to help the cause. It's only going to hurt us in the long run. Be proud of what we've done, and turn to other ways to further the movement (i.e. increasing the facebook presence, thinking about PAX, etc.) In fact, I think jumping to another charity--at this point--might be a bad idea. Let's wait a while.  Calm down. Be patient. And, most importantly, remain civil.

I wonder if the media will talk about this, because the media were angry for the entitled fans who ASK for a ending where you decision affect it, now those "people" who ATTACK CHARITY, that is just wrong.

I really wonder why kind of people are against the retakeme3 movement, they are no different to than criminals.

The money is going to charity and a good cause.

FYI, I seriously doubt that anyone who donated would have threatened that charity, that makes zero sense to me.  I don't believe it would have been EA/BioWare either.

Guys, I'm at the point of begging now. Please, just give yourselves 24 hours to calm down about this before even thinking about doing anything. There's a lot of speculation going around, but like I've said before, the only people who genuinely know what happened are the people that communicated directly with CP about it. Please, please, please, do not spread inaccurate information to news sources.
To those eager to start up with a new charity endeavor, I applaud your generosity and enthusiasm, but again ask you to just wait a bit before acting on it. You actions will have a huge effect on the Retake movement, so let's collectively take some time to consider what the next step should be.

You do realize the moment you bring this to the attention of Fox News, they'd just run a story on how Bioware is indoctrinating our children by allowing consensual homosexual relationships within their game, right?

Most importantly of all, I ask that everyone who donated PLEASE just let things lie. The cause is good, and the reason that it was shut down is understandable. Do not prove everyone that mocked our efforts right by asking for a return on your donation.

I was with you right up until the last paragraph, on which point I respectfully disagree.

I would never urge anyone to do anything other than make their own determination on they will proceed.

I, on the other hand, have no problems urging people who have given to the charity not to ask for refunds.  Regardless of what happens to this movement or the wish of Child's Play not to be associated with us, the children they help are the ones who matter most.

If the charity's managment makes a questionable call like accepting donations then requesting the drive be halted, I question their ability to manage the funds in a way that accomplishes the charity's stated mission.

Until I'm able to prove to myself that they do better for the kids then they done by us, I'm repurposing my donation to organizations I know and trust.  I've asked for clarification and understanding from the principles.  If I get it, I'll happily donate again.

There are MANY ways to help children.

WHO THREATENS A CHARITY OVER A FRIGGIN' VIDEOGAME?????????
Whichever sick f... did this...
And they DARE tell US to chill out because it's " only a game"?
THEY DARE???

I need to sign off...or else I am really done with being civil.
This is the friggin' last straw.
I hate the internet.

I know you're upset, I am too, but we need to stay strong and civil and continue to hold the line.

Upset? How about furious?
How about absolutely apalled?
A day ago, I was about to write a lengthy message about how this should not be treated like a "war" between BW, us and those who liked the ending.
Guess what?
Apparently, I was wrong. I really had no idea that anyone would even consider attacking a charity.
But then again...this invalidates their claims anyway.
Since why should we, who have turned our anger into something positive, listen to a bunch of &$§%(() (to avoid a ban) who decided attacking a charity was a reasonable thing to do?
Godsdamnit....us humans really are vile beings.

hey there, how about before you start mouthing off like a lunatic, you figure out for a fact it was a letter, or even from a pro ender, or better yet, instead of bunching up a group decide to 'hate' on the one who sent this so called letter. Just because some people understood the ending doesn't mean they are after you in some conspiracy.

How do you know maybe all this press coverage made Child's Play see what your movement was about and decided they didn't want a part in it? I'm seeing people blaming EA, Bioware, Pro Enders, some letter no one has even seen. There is no facts here to point fingers.

For all we know it could have been someone on your side who jumped ship

No. Pointing fingers and assigning blame here is not the answer. It's done and we need to move on, no matter how upsetting this may be.

To those who support the CF idea: Thank you. <3

Even if it is no chosen or anything, it still makes me happy that some people have now heard of it because of the suggestions and how many people go on this forum. If it works out in the end, you've made a CF patient very happy.

No need to donate either, just raise awareness and let others know of it.. I figured I'd post it here because of the whole issue going on with Child's Play and I admit it it's very unfortunate that it had to end this way, but this definitely showed the power a community has once they work together. But it is also nice to have a wide variety of charities to select. I wish you all good luck and hopefully, soon, changes come up that will leave us satisfied in the end. But even if it works out your plan with Retake and such, don't give up giving to others. Even if money is tight, there is still much more you can do without spending a single cent. I know that for good deeds you'll eventually  be rewarded in the end, because I believe if you do good deeds even when things are tough and nothing seems to go right, you'll eventually be rewarded. There's always hope.

Good luck folks.

Things like this put everything into perspective. I'm going to tweet and facebook this charity, and donate when I can.
Some people have more to worry about in life than I - I feel obliged to help. Thanks.

It always strikes me as... odd... when a charity declines charitable donations. But that is their prerogative, weird as it is, so I guess I should just try and feel glad in the knowledge that we did raise some good coin for some needy kids and leave it at that?

It'd be a lie to say my enthusiasm for Child's Play hasn't taken a hit, though. :(

The suggestion in that Reddit thread about Nathan Fillion's "Kids Need To Read" charity as a possible alternate is an interesting option! I'm interested in hearing more, particularly regarding whether they are US only or International. If a new charity *is* chosen, it should definitely have a presence across more then just the United State.

Also, I can't help but read suggestions or comments talking about involving Fox News and cringe in horror. You know that they historically haven't been particularly friendly to the Video Game side of the culture...

Let's remember too, that the point of this was that regardless of if we got an ending we liked it was a good cause. So it's done now, we don't have a new ending. But it was still a good cause. Something Shepard would be proud of us for.

Hold The Line!

There are no facts.  Just hearsay and rumors.

Secondly, I don't see the problem in going over to a different charity.  AS LONG AS YOU DON'T DEMAND REFUNDS FROM CHILD'S PLAY.

Yeah, they'll say that they really didn't care about the charity, but the facts are that 80K was donated.

And as stated above, haters make ammo out of thin air, if they can't use switching charities as bullets, they'll use something else.
