Retake Mass Effect - Petition and Child's Play Donation Drive

I didn't give my donations expecting anything! I just thought it was a good and constructive thing to do. I was glad to find a positive way to show support and I loved the idea of Child's Play.
Ever since my first donation I talked about the charity to friends - not about the movement, but about the charity itself.
We've done a good thing here, we got the word out, we raised money. Let's leave it at that.

So that one is complete at their bequest. That's great. Pick another and keep going.

Wait a minute... what happened? Pro-enders complained to the guys at Child's Play and annoyed them enough to shut it down or... was someone else complaining? Why the hell should ANYONE complaining matter in this situation? What the **** does a couple of antagonistic emails, no matter from whom it may be, matter when 80K is raised for charity? Who the hell do these guys think they are?
Pro-Enders not likely. PR for certain groups big groups within gaming would likely cause them to not want to be affiliated with us, not a few measely no name people. You can bet someone or some group big interested in mainting the status quo and painting us as an unfocused minority fring group had something to do with this.
In any case, the children win, and greedy/evil individuals or groups have lost.
Wait what happened? Someone shut down the charity? * goes back to reread*
It was inevitable, someone or some group layed pressure on the charity to stop taking donations from us. Someone or some group with influence and money and a desire to paint this movement as unfocused, unhelpful, and marginal. I saw this coming, from a PR perspective this aspect of the movement was a wonderful move.
From a human perspective one more win for the good guys, despite all the evil and greed in this world.

Hey everyone, I want to echo what has been said recently.
We did raise a lot of money for Child's Play and those sick, scared children in the hospitals will at least have some happiness thanks to the money we raised.
I am saddened a bit, however, that our charity drive had so many "enemies". Why would people be against raising money for children? I contacted "Child's Play" and was informed that the main reason they requested us to stop the drive was because they were getting tons of "hate" mail.
So, while we were acting civil and doing something positive, the people standing against us lashed out in the worst way possible - and - it seems that had a bigger impact than our positive, civil protest/petition.
Child's Play even indicated they plan to change the way people can donate to them in the future to prevent this from happening again.
I am debating contacting Forbes with this information. It seems being "Paragons of Protest" was fine and good - but the real influence behind shutting down the charity drive, attempting to raise money for kids - was "Hate" mail. It's not like this was a widely political - world changing event. It isn't abortion rights, or the world economy - it is the end of a video game. Captialism. BioWare has every right to change - or not change the ending - as they see fit, and they must deal with the consequences (more sales, or perhaps less sales in the future) as a result.
I am proud to be standing with all of you and holding the line in a civil, courteous manner, it looks however, like the "hate" mail tactics - are heard louder by the folks at Child's Play.
Hold the line.
There's more about it in that general page number area, for those worried/hoping that the hate mail thing was just someone's wild imagination.
The important thing, though, is to remember what we accomplished before anyone could stop us. 80k in 9 days! I felt bad after finishing the game, and I feel bad about the drive having to end early, but every time I think about having helped raise 80k for sick kids, I feel a whole lot better.
Proud to hold the line!

Hey, not over yet. I'm donating again on this pay, if the chipin page decides to work for me.
Wait I've somehow missed something havent' I.
The ChipIn page had to close down because Child's Play had to politely ask the Retake movement to stop. There were too many inaccurate articles saying that they directly supported the cause and this could cause them to lose donations in the longrun that our drive could never make up for, no matter how much money we could've raised.
However if you still want to donate, here's their main site. http://www.childsplaycharity.org/

Always other charities out there... Might be a good idea to organize a mass email/pm towards members of the RetakeME3 movement so everyone can be on the ball with the latest information.
I think this idea is on a lot of peoples minds right now, but I'm going to repeat myself and urge people to wait a bit before acting. Let's see this CP drive settle before we start thinking about where to go next. That doesn't mean we have to stop "holding the line". Just do it in other (civil, obviously) ways.

Who could fund such a large amount of donations to give child's play pause? I wonder. Someone big in the industry probably. A publisher maybe with an interest in the issue.

Well, I'm glad it gathered so much steam before some foolish people wrote before thinking. The children's hopsital in my city is affiliated with Child's Play, I'll see if they take direct donations of cash/games.

Another thing you can do is give games, etc. directly to the children's hospitals who work with Child's Play. They have Amazon wish lists, so it's easy to buy them a few games, controllers, etc.

I am sorry, but that is total crap... I wonder who it was. I don't think bioware would do this. Maybe EA. Could be IGN or one of those. I guess it doesn't matter. We still raised 80,000 dollars.

We must do this. In the end people will realize that the fault lies not with us, who are for the most part civil, but with those who are doing the slapping. Even if others don't agree with us, they can still respect us. If we stay calm and polite we shall win out the day, for we shall be remembered positively at best, neutrally at worst, no matter if the endings are changed or not.
Seeing how things going for us now, I am afraid we gonna be remembered as pathetic little bunch of whiny suckes for holywood endings who accoplished nothing and died out quickly.<_<

Trying to do good in the world is like beating your head against a steel door that is padlocked to try to open it. We can make dents, dents that people will notice. But will we feel good in the end? I don't think so. We can wear them down though, always try to do the right thing even when doing the wrong thing is so much easier.

Second, I'm also amazed, saddened, and frustrated by peoples' ability to take something wonderful and interpret it to have some kind of ulterior motive, or to find fault in the fundraiser because it's somehow morally wrong to link a protest to a charity. That's garbage. Some people just can't let anything simply be good; they've just got to take a leak in the cake batter. It drives me crazy sometimes.
Big time salute to everyone who donated. Proud to be here.

It didn't have to be anyone in particular. Child's Play may well have not wanted to look like they were taking sides - because they weren't taking sides.
If people feel that strongly about the national organization - and they shouldn't - then give to the local hospitals.
