Retake Mass Effect - Petition and Child's Play Donation Drive

I don't have much money, I myself am ill and rely on charities for help at the moment, but this was something larger then myself I could be a part of, something I also happen to believe in, the therapuetic (spelling sorry) nature of games, and by extension of that I do believe happier uplifting endings should be included as a choice, we can all use more hope these days.
Shame really I never found the quote from Rapheal Sbarge (Kaidan) I could have sworn I read that says this much more eloquently then I could. Would have made for a good image and point.

@Diablos: As sad as I am, I'm also really angry too, furious in fact, I typed out a long reply that would likely get me banned. But didn't send it in the end. I can't help but feel the negativity going one way is completely ignored, and fostered because of it. They mention all the postive reviews and destructive critism all the time, yet what of this movement? An attempt to do something positive and largely succeded?
Seen as they want to claim we never gave them the benefit of doubt, I'll return the favour at this point, they never return that to thier fans.
As upset as I am, I saw this coming because I am completely pessimistic, and expect to be screwed over by more influential people all the time. It's really a depressing view I have of the world but that being said, we went into this as a win-win situation. No matter what they've done and how they spinned this we made a positive impact, and I've been inspired to think a little more about other people especially kids. How many kids right now are literally dying while we're here ****ing about a terrible game ending? Sometimes I need to re-adjust my perspective and focus on what really matters in life. What if we helped fund a cure for cancer instead of buying some new ending dlc?
Don't get me wrong, humans are selfish, and there's nothing wrong with buying things for ourselves; that being said, maybe this movement has helped to remind us that we need to think of others as well even if it's just a little help here and there:happy:

For the charity thing, why don't we have a general donation pool, and then either by a vote or random decision give the money to one of a number of charities (or possibly multiple ones), that way nobody has to be directly linked and it comes across as simply the good will gesture that it was intended to be.
Sorry if somebody has already suggested this, I haven't read the whole thread.
This isn't a bad idea. The difficult part would be finding someone we would all trust with the funds.

I'll do a Shields one, sure. It'll just take a bit longer cause I hafta find a source image, extract him, find a background icon, figure out coloration, etc.
Just came back and saw all of your banners--they are gorgeous! Really stellar work. And I second the Shields notion, if you're inclined to do it; I will happily sig that.
Thanks!
Here's Shields, for those that want him (open to criticism, but I wanted to get it out quickly for you):
Love it! The color especially is quite pretty

I really like the generous spirit, but the CP drive worked precisely because there was no middle man. Donations went directly from your bank accoun to CP. If, after lengthy discussion and consideration, the majority decides that another charity is the right way to take Retake, the only way I see it working is in the same fashion as the CP drive. Via paypal, from your bank account to said charity.

Ha! There are 99% chance all that "Retake" business will end by Bioware keeping ending without any change whatsoever and Stanley Woo here posting "Well you got good run guys, be proud of yourselfs, end of the line". <_<
Well then, jokes on you, ain't it? Because no matter what Bioware ends up doing, the fact is we DID force them to take notice, and to commit to doing SOMETHING.
And in the process, we raised $80,000 for kids. What have you done other than be insulting?

I missed out on participating in the drive, but if another worthy charity takes its place I will happily donate what little money I have towards it.
Keep the faith. Hold the line.

Stanley Woo has been keeping an eye on us. Why not have him hold the funds and get Bioware involved. They'd finallly be interacting with us, and doing some good as well.

Well, while I'm not happy that CP ended the drive, I guess I can understand their position.

I am sure as hell not going to ask my money back, but this is the hardest hit we ever recieved. Our "line" is not holding ****, we are running back with our pants down

I really disagree - assuming that we're leaving the 80K with Child's Play and simply moving to another charity for further donations. I don't see how simply stopping donating to Child's Play, when that was requested of us by the charity itself and not a choice we made, shows that we don't really care about the charity.Fuzrum77 wrote...
Jumping ship to a new charity leaves us open to the media's inevitable stance: "Well...I guess they didn't really care about Child's Play. It's all about the attention. They don't care WHO they give their money to, as long as it's positive attention." It will look very, very bad. And I know how sad that is. Giving money to charity is a wonderful thing, and I encourage all of you to continue to do so within your means, but as an organized group, I think Retake Mass Effect needs to look to another avenue. For now.
I don't think we should be worrying how it makes us look to find a new charity for further donations. We should just concentrate on finding a good cause and making sure that as many positive effects result from our ME3 ending disappointment as possible.
This proves that you're only "donating" to further your own cause. You're not doing it because you want to, you're doing it because you want a company to do what you want them to do. Which, again, is disgusting.
As for everyone else who is even contemplating asking for your money back from CP:
That is DEPLORABLE. You cannot think that taking money away from the charity you donated to is a good thing. It makes you a sad, sad human being and it makes everything "good" you think you're doing look so bad, that I have no words.
In my opinion, this is sick. The whole "We want our money back because Child's Play doesn't agree with us!" is disgusting. And really, I hope the ones who are pushing to get your refund are ashamed of yourselves.

Why not, I thought you trusted Bioware?
I trust them enough to do this, they could make a video out of the donation.

Ok, here's a preliminary of the requested Garrus banner - I may make another version, but for now, here's one you can use if you like:
Thank you! I used it, wouldn't mind some others but hey, I'm not complaining, I'm just Holding The Line!
EDIT: Booo, to small sig area, it gets rid of my "His name was Marauder Shields, he died protecting us from the ending" Oh well though, one goes away so others may live on.
Which others would you like? I've done about...half?aA little over half? ...of the main characters, and I can easily swap out the text for this text. Or make you one if I don't have that character yet, it'll just take a bit longer.
I'm sure others want main characters first, but after that, if you could do a Maraduer Shields one, that would be totally awesome for me. If not, no big deal, I will be here on the line.
I'll do a Shields one, sure. It'll just take a bit longer cause I hafta find a source image, extract him, find a background icon, figure out coloration, etc.
Take your time. That you will even do it, makes me very happy. I'm here for the longterm, just Holding The Line.
EDIT: This thread has moved to fast for me lol. Thank you for the Shields one, I am happy and after this post, changing my sig, again thank you so much for your hard work. I am proud to stand beside you on the line!

Please don't exaggerate and set up straw men arguments, very few people have said they want their donations back. As has been stated it's not child's plays fault, or the children's fault. It is the person or group of people who threatened Child's play with influence/money/press coverage. Choose your poison.

I felt so great after donating - I still look back on this past week as a roller coaster of emotions - mostly great ones!
We got some positive media attention. We made lots of kids happy. I think - at the end of the day, it was a "success".
Now let's focus on the next "win" and keep being positive, supporting each other and most importantly...
Hold the line!
