we can focus now on how mega-corps like EA are seriously trying to undermine positive avenues of protest to keep a stranglehold on their forced perception of commercial benevolance

im interested in knowing how much of the percentage of donations to Childs Play actually goes to kids and what percentage is cannabalized for overhead( penny arcades probably got a nice scam going), i'm guessing someone knows how to find out wouldnt mind doing so

I don't think so, given that HenchxNarf's original statement quoted two people who weren't talking about looking for refunds at all.  :?

EDIT: However, it looks like everyone has agreed to bury the hatchet, so no harm done.  :wizard:

So. Focus!

Look to the positives people. 80k for Child's play is... awesome. How do we outdo ourselves and take this to the next level?

Hold the line, and smile a little while you're at it. I feel pretty good right about now.

THIS

I am looking to all of you awesome, creative people in this thread.

What's the next idea? What's the next thing we can do to take this to the "next level"? (In a positive, civil manner of course!)

I am not 100% certain... I like the idea of giving a different charity even more money... But that also is sort of a copycat idea... Let's brainstorm peoples - what else?

coming together to organize some kind of Ghandi/MLK jr type peaceful protest at PAX?

Throw some ideas out there - this is how the charity drive started originally, brainstorming stuff!

and...
Hold the line!

So... brainstorming?  Posted Image Posted Image

Please don't take the examples of 3 or 4 people and paint a group consisting of (likely) thousands of people to fit your agenda.

If you are not one of the ones asking, what I said does not include you. Did I say you? No. Did I say everyone? No. I said "To those wanting refunds". Maybe if you actually read what I wrote, I wouldn't have to explain that to you.

We need to stop focusing on the divisions between us, and focus on the similiarities between us. This thread was created to do some good, I'm sick of being angry all the time. So in that spirit, I will apologize. Friends? =]

I didn't mean to sound like I was attacking you. Those kind of people anger me. If you aren't one, I have no problems with you.

So sure! <3

I like this idea, but it would be hard to organize and has the potential to devolve into a mob of haters. Still it would be great if we could pull this off successfully.

Alright folks, I have never posted on the forums here before. But I wanted to say that, not only is $80k in 9 days amazing, its downright incredible. As someone who spent most of their childhood in and out of children's hospitals (I have cerebral palsy), I can safely say that I'm not only proud of what I've seen happen here, I'm extremely happy for those kids.

They are the ones who matter in the end, and if nothing else comes out of this, knowing that over 4000 people worked to put smiles on sick kids' faces make all my anger and frustration over the ME3 situation totally worth it.

Thanks to you all.

Other than the fact that I seperated who exactly I was talking about. I never said YOU wanted a refund, I said to those that DO.

I know DO and YOU rhyme and all, but I didn't mean you said that. And I specifically mentioned that as well.

For the charity thing, why don't we have a general donation pool, and then either by a vote or random decision give the money to one of a number of charities (or possibly multiple ones), that way nobody has to be directly linked and it comes across as simply the good will gesture that it was intended to be.

Sorry if somebody has already suggested this, I haven't read the whole thread.

This isn't a bad idea.  The difficult part would be finding someone we would all trust with the funds.

Stanley Woo has been keeping an eye on us. Why not have him hold the funds and get Bioware involved. They'd finallly be interacting with us, and doing some good as well.

You are just full of lolz tonight

Why not, I thought you trusted Bioware?  =]

I trust them enough to do this, they could make a video out of the donation.

I'm not sure how that would work. I feel like Bioware wouldn't want to support something that puts their company in a negative light (i.e. that they messed up the ending) and that people wouldn't want to trust their money to someone they already feel kind of betrayed by. I like the spirit of the idea, but I'm not sure we should be starting another charity drive yet and feel that if we do end up starting another one any middleman whatsoever would make people suspicious.

Yea I guess you're right, just a thought at healing between the community and Bioware:(. It would be cool if we could work together to do some good.

It may have ended early, but still. It was good catharsis and, most importantly, fora good cause =)

We will find another way to positively demonstrate our opinions, and to harness our organization for good.

Take a moment to pause and reflect. This movement raised how much money for children? $80,000? That is something to be proud of, ladies and gentlemen. Yes, there are lousy people in the world who sent in hate mail, but guess what? That hate mail does nothing to diminish this accomplishment. It's disapointing that Child's Play needs to distance themselves, sure, but they have to look at the big picture (i.e. it could potentially hurt future donations and therefor take away from a great cause).

Here's the thing. This movement will never avoid detractors. From snarky game reviewers and sites to individuals who don't like our views, it's just something that won't go away. We can either continue to hold the line and (hopefully) do some good in the process, or we can let it get us down. In the end, it doesn't matter one bit that a group of people want to look askance at donating to a charity. They can say what they want about guilt trips or whatnot, the simple truth of the matter is that this group did something good and decent for children. -That- is amazing. -That- is something that we should never stop doing, wether it's because we're motivated by a game or just because it's a Tuesday and we want to make someone smile.

I hold my money very close to me as I used to be *really* poor. But for the first time, I donated to charity. That changed something in me. Even if this didn't end in the best terms because someone misjudged our motivation to it, it was still a good thing.

A big cheers to us all.

True, but it could be something simple like... everyone wears a green (or red - or blue... heh...) T-shirt that will be at PAX... Or, while PAX is going on, people show up at some local vendor with said colored T-shirt on...

I dunno. We have lots of people involved wanting to do something positive. Surely we can dream up something nifty. Posted Image

I just don't know why you quoted me, then!  (EDIT: I now see where I misunderstood you.  When you said "everyone else," it could easily be taken to include the person you had just addressed, or to exclude them.  All a matter of where and how you punctuate.  "Everyone else who" includes; "everyone else, who" excludes.  Just FYI, if you're interested in such things.)

But no harm done; all's well that ends well.  :)
