I hold my money very close to me as I used to be *really* poor. But for the first time, I donated to charity. That changed something in me. Even if this didn't end in the best terms because someone misjudged our motivation to it, it was still a good thing.

A big cheers to us all.

Sometimes we need to remind ourselves that there are other people out there, and some of them need more help than we do :wizard:

I like this idea, but it would be hard to organize and has the potential to devolve into a mob of haters. Still it would be great if we could pull this off successfully.

True, but it could be something simple like... everyone wears a green (or red - or blue... heh...) T-shirt that will be at PAX... Or, while PAX is going on, people show up at some local vendor with said colored T-shirt on...

I dunno. We have lots of people involved wanting to do something positive. Surely we can dream up something nifty. Posted Image

Hold the line!

Oooooh, that would be cool.

While I'm sad to see the charity drive wind down this way, I can understand Child's Play needing to do what they feel is necessary to protect their organization for the long term. In the end, we cannot control the actions of others, we can only choose how we will react.

With that in mind, I'd just like to take a moment to say to everyone involved: No matter what amount you gave, thank you. $80,000 is an amazing sum, and demonstrates our commitment as individuals to greet a negative event with a positive response. No matter what organizational decisions are made, let's keep moving forward in that spirit.

Hold the Line.

As snajones said, thanks for sharing. It's personal stories like these that are littered throughout the thread that make this entire movement special.

It sounds like Diablos lacks reading comprehension and is fighting with HenchxNarf over her clear statements pointing out a few selected members

I don't think so, given that HenchxNarf's original statement quoted two people who weren't talking about looking for refunds at all.  :?

Other than the fact that I seperated who exactly I was talking about. I never said YOU wanted a refund, I said to those that DO.

I know DO and YOU rhyme and all, but I didn't mean you said that. And I specifically mentioned that as well.

Another flame war I'm wishing was happening via PM....

I think you need to know what a flame war is.

I was explaining, and now everything is okay.

My mistake.  Sincerest apologies ;)

Thanks Melicamp! :)

Now, let's focus our energy (regardless of whatever emotion is behind that energy heh) into coming up with some ideas for the "next big thing" the ReTake effort is going to do!

The charity drive started as we all discussed "what can we do besides write letters?" so, let's continue that spirit!

Hold the line!

Anyway, all in all, I agree with the poster from a few pages back who suggested letting things cool for 24 hours before we decide what to do next, whether it's to rest on our laurels, seek a second charity for further donations, or focus on giving feedback to Bioware.

I'll be back to this thread later, but signing out for now, in order to reflect on matters.

I don't think politics should come into charity, i think maybe "instead of re-take this or Bioware supports that , something a long the lines of a gamer community thing would seem like a good idea. As far as the cash is concerned child's play is a worth while cause and i will continue to donate when i have the cash. The kidd's got some new toys' that what's important.:)

So. Focus!

Look to the positives people. 80k for Child's play is... awesome. How do we outdo ourselves and take this to the next level?

Hold the line, and smile a little while you're at it. I feel pretty good right about now.

THIS

I am looking to all of you awesome, creative people in this thread.

What's the next idea? What's the next thing we can do to take this to the "next level"? (In a positive, civil manner of course!)

I am not 100% certain... I like the idea of giving a different charity even more money... But that also is sort of a copycat idea... Let's brainstorm peoples - what else?

coming together to organize some kind of Ghandi/MLK jr type peaceful protest at PAX?

Throw some ideas out there - this is how the charity drive started originally, brainstorming stuff!

and...
Hold the line!

I would LOVE to see a peaceful protest at PAX. Being west coast Canada I'm a tad far away, I would enjoy seeing some vids however. I'll hold the line from home while folks are there. ;)

Might I add that I love this community. Never before have I been so proud of gamers, sure we hit a few snags, but overall this has been a positive experience. We can do this.

I really like reddit idea of donating to the Kids Need to Read charity in this thread. Geek related, good cause and they already got the go ahead from the charity!

I'm glad things are starting to simmer down.

All I know is, after reading all the venting, and peacemaking, and refreshingly positive
mod feedback, I know I'm going to bed tonight feeling good about myself, and with a tremendous
pride in actions of great group of big-hearted people. Real time and Internet Time are two completely
different things. Online, (especially BSN) things move so fast you can blink and miss them.

The entire life-cycle of a controversial charity movement, that in "real time" could last months, even years:
happened in 9 days.

Whatever the future holds for our favorite interactive franchise,  I'm going to bed tonight knowing we made a significant difference in some deserving kid's lives. That's worth every rude article, every sloppy journo, and every minute of the last nine days.

I know I'll sleep well.
